What’s the Bassline that you really had to work at
Oopsdabassist replied to Toddy17's topic in General Discussion
Our current drummer did Tom Sawyer in another band, and singist/KB said...'I know that' and knocked off the solo riff, so me and the guitarist ran off and practiced like buggery, met up next rehearsal feeling pleased with ourselves until we can to that middle bit...we all played it, but slightly different ( it's supposed to be in unison)..methinks its gonna be a while before we gig THAT one! My poor fingers just cant track quick enough at the moment! -
We were at an all day event on Saturday, warming up the good people of Stony Stratford waiting for the Xmas lights to be turned on, 1st band on the bass player was also playing BF cabs through an Orange Terror, sounded great. Dunno if he is on here on not though! Also had proper sound man for the event, so that made things easier, we were on quite early so not many people around but what a great atmosphere, best part was local radio station were on hand so we had 2 songs on the radio and an interview after our set in the pub next to stage, so lively banter and beer in hand, missus was listening at home chuckling to herself apparently!!

YES, without a doubt, took me to wonderful far away places while I sat on my bed dreaming as a teenager, the density and complexity of the music always gave up something new, and baffled me as to how they could all play together like that. I can't say Chris Squire inspired me to play bass, that was probably Geezer Butler, but it is YES that appeals to my inner self!

Another thumbs up for the Alpines, and although I've had mine for years they are still doing a sterling job!

Open strings: Yay or nay, with reasons.

Really? I find it easier playing the 5th on the E, also makes the bass line punchier to my ears. I suppose we are all different!! -
Not last night, but last week, just looking at the video now, it was a charity Gig for Parkinsons Society in Newquay Cornwall, we a great laugh and the locals were wonderfully friendly. My Barefaced 2x10 held its head high against 2 Marshall wielding guitarists!! Ok some of the songs were a bit cheesy, note the looks between the drummer and the guitarist, but we had an excellent night!

Perfect opening few bars/intro to a song.

Remember first hearing this in about 1972, aged 12, and being totally blown away, it wasn't T Rex THATS for sure........awesome tune! -
There's another guy here, called Blue, who looks just like you!!!

With my TH500 the gain is about 11 o'clock before the clipping light starts twitching, this with a passive P bass, mind you I'm a bit heavy handed. I've always been told to avoid excessive clipping so I have never pushed the TH any harder to see how the sound changes.
I like whatever the song's called they're plugging on the radio at the moment. A clever mix of Plastic Bertrand's 'Ça Plane pour Moi' and Ricky Martin's 'She Bangs'. And people will still buy it.
Its called Holy Mountain, and yer, 'She Bangs' was what I thought too!
I think the lady on the scissors is his new girlfriend who just wants to be in on the act. They've copied the Beatles so closely in the past, now they've got their own Yoko Ono...
That's harsh, but I smirked...a lot..!!

Hello from a Converted Guitarist... Please Be Gentle!

Welcome aboard Iain, I wont hold it against you that you can play skinny strings and I can't...pity you maybe.. -
Not being a guitar player I found strumming on a Mandolin wonderfully easy, got myself a cheapy electro acoustic from Hobgoblin, and I dabble a bit a home, My wife loves the sound of it so its win/win. Mine isn't an Octave Mandolin though, and I'm only strumming, so not really picking individual notes, which means the fret spacing isn't so much an issue for me. OFC if I delve into mando playing more seriously I may have to upgrade

One of my bands is doing a charity gig for Parkinsons Society on 11th Nov http://lanetheatre.co.uk/ http://www.marshall-law-band.com/ Its a bit of a trek as we are South Bucks based, but the guitarists Dad lives down there and is a sufferer. Its our 1st time playing in a theatre so should be...interesting!!
Thanks guys for the very positive vibes & advice (advibes), should help me progress a little further from my current state of 'all the gear, but no idea'
There used to be jam nights in the White hart in Buckingham town centre, My band have hosted a couple in the past, get yerself down there and mingle, its a nice vibe and you will be surprised at how good you are compared to how good you think you are, when you can see what others are doing Welcome to the forum BTW, hope you find something to help you along the path. -
Well hello there..and welcome
At a certain time in the 70s, you could say everything you wanted to say about yourself while being being super-cool simply by carrying a copy of Tubular Bells under one arm in public.
And I did!! -
