1. Another thumbs up for the Alpines, and although I've had mine for years they are still doing a sterling job!
2. Really? I find it easier playing the 5th on the E, also makes the bass line punchier to my ears. I suppose we are all different!!
3. Not last night, but last week, just looking at the video now, it was a charity Gig for Parkinsons Society in Newquay Cornwall, we a great laugh and the locals were wonderfully friendly. My Barefaced 2x10 held its head high against 2 Marshall wielding guitarists!! Ok some of the songs were a bit cheesy, note the looks between the drummer and the guitarist, but we had an excellent night!
4. Remember first hearing this in about 1972, aged 12, and being totally blown away, it wasn't T Rex THATS for sure........awesome tune!
5. There's another guy here, called Blue, who looks just like you!!!
6. With my TH500 the gain is about 11 o'clock before the clipping light starts twitching, this with a passive P bass, mind you I'm a bit heavy handed. I've always been told to avoid excessive clipping so I have never pushed the TH any harder to see how the sound changes.

8.
I like whatever the song's called they're plugging on the radio at the moment. A clever mix of Plastic Bertrand's 'Ça Plane pour Moi' and Ricky Martin's 'She Bangs'. And people will still buy it.
Its called Holy Mountain, and yer, 'She Bangs' was what I thought too!
9.
I think the lady on the scissors is his new girlfriend who just wants to be in on the act. They've copied the Beatles so closely in the past, now they've got their own Yoko Ono...
That's harsh, but I smirked...a lot..!!
10. Welcome aboard Iain, I wont hold it against you that you can play skinny strings and I can't...pity you maybe..
11. Not being a guitar player I found strumming on a Mandolin wonderfully easy, got myself a cheapy electro acoustic from Hobgoblin, and I dabble a bit a home, My wife loves the sound of it so its win/win. Mine isn't an Octave Mandolin though, and I'm only strumming, so not really picking individual notes, which means the fret spacing isn't so much an issue for me. OFC if I delve into mando playing more seriously I may have to upgrade
12. One of my bands is doing a charity gig for Parkinsons Society on 11th Nov http://lanetheatre.co.uk/ http://www.marshall-law-band.com/ Its a bit of a trek as we are South Bucks based, but the guitarists Dad lives down there and is a sufferer. Its our 1st time playing in a theatre so should be...interesting!!
13.
Thanks guys for the very positive vibes & advice (advibes), should help me progress a little further from my current state of 'all the gear, but no idea'
There used to be jam nights in the White hart in Buckingham town centre, My band have hosted a couple in the past, get yerself down there and mingle, its a nice vibe and you will be surprised at how good you are compared to how good you think you are, when you can see what others are doing Welcome to the forum BTW, hope you find something to help you along the path.
14.
At a certain time in the 70s, you could say everything you wanted to say about yourself while being being super-cool simply by carrying a copy of Tubular Bells under one arm in public.
And I did!!
15. Love that Video, Love Tubular Bells, I have the Bells moment from TB3 as my ringtone, I love the whole 'far above the clouds' track so much I'm considering it for my funeral!! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JxdwnyfT0D4&t=6s That second when the bells kick in..Goosebumps like love eggs!
16. If you like it..that's all that matters!! Not a tort fan myself...of any colour, maybe I'M odd?
17. Uh oh...I may be getting myself into trouble sometime soon, lemme think about this. edit for question, what's the other hole under the scratchplate, in your 2nd pic?
18. Dr Dave...as I live and breathe..its been a while, welcome back sirrah!
19.
I've re-quoted my whole post as I think this will help to highlight the point. Really, it's all about promoting good hand health and posture. I've had people, bassists, come to me who complain that they have aches in their thumb, hand and sometimes lower arm and shoulder too from playing long gigs. Often, there's a reason why that can be helped. I'm not a physiotherapist but my experience (sometimes learning the hard way) I hope can help to undo some bad habits. It's not always about hand position, sometimes it can be down to being too heavy handed on the instrument or the bass weighs a tonne and suffers from terrible neck dive for example. This is easier demonstrated than described, but here goes: Thumb first. If you bear down on your thumb joint with your arm, then it's taking the load. That joint isn't supposed to be compressed. Add to that the constant pulling motion on the strings with your fingers, it's going to eventually cause discomfort. Instead of that, your hand should be more 'dangling' but your thumb is there to steady your hand not be an anchor for your arm. Ok, I've got an analogy. Think of it as resting your thumb on an egg. Forearm. There is a tendency for bassists to rest their forearm on the top of the body and dangle the hand over towards the strings. Also not a wise idea because the wrist is bent over at an angle (sometimes as bad as nearly 90 degrees) to the forearm. This is a recipe for carpal tunnel and other complaints. Keeping the arm and wrist straight is the way to go. Or at least as straight as possible.
Ah I see now, I was interested as my thumb is usually anchored on the pickup regardless of what string I am playing, which means my wrist angle changes depending on what string I am playing, so I was wondereing if I can expect pain problems at some point in the future! Thanks for the explanation Dan.
