1.
Makes perfect sense.... since I mispelt the word (it should have two "L"'s"). It is actually the Irish word for "forrest" or "wood", and is also a state sponsered company here in Ireland. I have always said that Bass Chat is a very informative web site. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coillte
thanks for that, great stuff, I just got all excited as both my in laws come from within a few miles of Quilty.
2. Tippex pen like this http://www.amazon.co.uk/Tipp-Ex-Shake-Squeeze-Correction-802298/dp/B000J63F7U re apply as required, and works well in the dark too
3. A bit more than 100 notes but well worth the money, and Chris the boss is quite active on here too. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Smooth-Hound-Innovations-K1100_K2100-Wireless/dp/B010FK9MMG
4. Aha and there was me thinking it was the Gaelic translation for Quilty http://www.google.co.uk/maps/place/Quilty,+Co.+Clare,+Ireland/@52.784068,-9.4593492,11.99z/data=!4m5!3m4!1s0x485ae2976e64dd0f:0xa00c7a9973183b0!8m2!3d52.8172567!4d-9.4559219?hl=en
5. Aaaand back ON topic... not daily but probably 3-4 times a week, usually for at least half an hour, and mainly to keep fingers flexible and calluses topped up, plus learning of new songs as and when.
6.
I think there is a big difference between "playing" every day, and practicing every day. How the time is used is very important. Some people spend maybe hours noodling around or practicing stuff they already know. IMO a half an hour to an hour spent on intense and focused practice, say twice a week ( though regularity is best...i.e. everyday) is more beneficial than an hour every day simply messing around on the bass. It's the quality...not the quantity. As for my self, I practice every day generally. I concentrate on practicing what I consider to be my weak points, as well as learning new songs for my covers band.
Totally off topic, but I love your avatar name...a County Clare man perchance?
7. LMAO! I think the sounds guys were 'experimenting' as other songs sound totally different, I had to choose that clip obviously!
8. Did a little open air festival at local football club, filling in for a last minute cancellation, heavens opened halfway through the set, but everyone huddled in the tents and gazebos and we carried on regardless, you can see the trees blowing mightily in the background here. Apologies for pic/sound quality it was just a camera on vid setting on top of the sound desk! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=87Aev0J6Kmk
9. Cables, amp, zoom B3, odds n sods all go in 2 old laptop bags, Barefaced compact has a Roqsolid cover, bass in either a Gator hardcase or a thomann gigbag 1 trip from car usually.
10. Watching it now, reminds me of when I saw em a coupla years back in Hammersmith...underwhelming, as mentioned above, we do a few ZZ top songs too, and I reckon we could play em off the stage at the moment.
11.
I will have Sean, but I`ll be touring it in Germany at that time.
ooh get you...international superstar!!!!
12. just watched it on iPlayer, thought they were better than when I saw em at Wembley a coupla years back...ofc that may because of the superior sound mix through my headphones lol
13. Damn but that's pretty...wot's it weigh?
14. What a great arsenal of..........bass faces!!!
15.
Coffee, cheese sandwiches and watch the F1 qualifying for me.
Close, polished off the bottle of wine the missus had started, pringles and F1..slept like a log
16. A local pub we play at had a cancellation so we said aye, not realising it was footy night...ah well... As it happens, the night starts with a Hen party coming in so we jiggled the set around to give em some dancing choons, they staggered off later but returned after the footy, just as the footy crowd came in too, cue much dancing and varied flashing...culminating in an inpromptu blast of 'Sweet Child O Mine' a song we haven't we haven't played for months, no one seemed to notice the howlers (I started the bass intro in wrong key for openers!) All in all a cracking gig, and we go back in August...happy days!
17. After playing a couple of local festivals last year and getting good reviews, we got booked for 3 this year (2 by same mob) these were tentatively confirmed just before Xmas, but only a few weeks ago our man was frantically chasing around as we had heard nothing since, only to be finally told, 'oh we were massively over subscribed, some bands just had to go' So, when EXACTLY were you gonna tell us?? Arseholes to a man/woman, sometimes I just despair..........
18. What ho chap, some of us have been here for years and still ask stupid questions, so don't feel embarrassed!
19. Wotcha!...I'd say welcome and have a good look around, but it seems you've sussed that already!
20. Yes, it did make the rounds a while back, but by god..its worth highlighting again, the 77 version off Going for the One always made me shiver, and watching Yes do it last year, was SO disappointing, this however is utterly gorgeous, and brings back those old feelings. Good call Ead, to show it again, it has made my day!!!!
21.
The Rising Sun in Sudbury Hill - remember it?
Gordon Bennett that takes me back! My grandparents lived in Horsenden Crescent on the 60's, I remember seeing the pub when coming out of the station opposite as a wee lad of about 7. What I remember most is going to Woolies though That was a treat back then!!
22. Sounds like a great day, SO ticked off I couldn't get there, only good thing was I got to see a Spitfire fly over my head! https://mail.google.com/mail/u/0/?ui=2&ik=160f9438e0&view=att&th=15524a0eba022385&attid=0.1&disp=safe&realattid=1536371846695354368-local0&zw
23.
However, use what is best for what you use, I have heard perfectly reasonable people using music stands
Well that's a bit weird, surely a bit unwieldy if you are playing straight 16th's?
