1. Lost track of the number of times I've seen Curved Air, god bless em. This year at MK stables was excellent though, was great to see Kirby Gregory back playing lead guitar, and a quick hello to Muso after was nice too. Will have to check my diary for this one...sounds like a winner to me!
2. Welcome dear boy good to see another face from across the puddle!
3. Found a Yamaha 5 string at 8.5 lbs (TRBX505) which was such a relief from my old Yam TRB5P which was nearer 11 lbs. my 3 four strings all weigh in at under 8.5 lbs too, much happier
4. At rehearsal a while back, while I was making the coffees, rhthym guitarist picks up my bass and starts bashing away at Vertigo, drummer joins in and lead guitarist as well, by the first chorus his timing was all over the shop, I was laughing so hard I spilt the coffees. He shamefacedly handed me back my bass with a mumbled 'not as easy as it looks is it' Result!!!
5. I learn songs at home plugged into a 30w fender practice amp, as long as I can hear myself over the backing track I have no care what it sounds like. My band sound is what sounds good with the guys, probably nothing like the flat eq I use at home.
6. I'm the opposite, dislike natural wood basses that one of trevorR's about 3 posts up reminds me off a coffee table we had as a kid, sorry Trev! A bit of paint adds to the mystery, you never quite know whats under there...might even be plastic..or cardboard......or whittled bogies...anything!!
7.
How about UK - In The Dead Of Night John Wetton at his best. https://youtu.be/AeXSQl56no8 Dave
I remember taking a girl to see UK at Hemel Decorum, she got bored after about 20 mins.......I came home with the album instead, from the merch stand. Still have that vinyl...the girl is long gone..I made the best choice!
8. Gigged with mine last weekend, several bands playing throughout the day, no interference issues or battery problems, output still sounded like me, very happy bunny. Plugged into a P there was nowhere for the grippy tape to stick to so it just hung down behind the tone knob. Even with me leaping about as per, it never felt like it was gonna disconnect. When plugged into my Yams the grip tape hangs onto the edge of the bass, that will be more interesting if I start jigging around..we shall see.
9. Ah Big Country...That was a band from the 80's I enjoyed immensely!
10. Singlecuts for sure, currently maple fretboards are a no no, having had a maple board Jazz which I stopped playing purely because of the shudder whenever I picked it up. I guess that may change at some point though..I must have liked em once to have bought one! Can't say I'm a fan of big spadelike headstocks either.
11.
Focus 3
Ooooh, another album still on my regular playlist, pinched the vinyl off me dad back in the day...still have it
12.
I met Darryl Way at a party once. Well, I say 'met' though I didn't actually speak to him. But I was in the same room as him! I regret not speaking to him now, but I was too shy in those days.
Went to see him play in Windsor back in about 1979, he was sat at the bar before going on, so egged on by my then girlfriend (now wife ) I went up to him, bought him a drink, starting gassing re Curved Air songs/arrangements.... and he was late starting..oops Lovely chap, still had the wild hair then.
13.
Prog fills quite a few slots in my collection so 'best ever' is just too big a task for me to seriously consider. I'll chuck in a slightly contentious one as it even divides the band's fans: Tales From Topographic Oceans Wildly over ambitious, double album containing just four pieces of music covering quite abstract mystical quasi religious bases, Not for the faint hearted.
But......utterly brilliant. Daft, mad, dense, but brilliant, still on regular rotation in the car for those long business trips!
14.
Barefaced retro 2x10? Looks like it would stack very well and I'm sure 4 of them together would level a small industrial estate.
I lolled, I also happen to agree, a couple of retro 2x10 could cope with just about anything!
15. All time fave? Hmm I think I'm with Ezbass, Tubular Bells was the one album that made me realise music doesn't have to be 3 min pop songs, and at the tender age of 12 that was quite a revelation! I discovered Yes, Genesis, Jethro Tull, King Crimson, soon after and was hooked for life on this stranger side of music. Strange when you consider my diet of Slade and Sweet up to that point anyway.
16.
Second Album, Curved Air. Probably.
Shell..I think I love you, so rare to hear another Curved Air fan waxing lyrical!! Young mother done live is excellent, but on that album I have a soft spot for Piece of Mind. 15 odd mins of prog goodness
17. I agree with Silvia, I was 42 before I started playing, still loving it, doing my own thing, in 2 bands so presumably doing it right! Oh and welcome
18. Love my Eden gear, if only it weren't so damn heavy! It hardly ever gets taken out nowadays, Barefaced and Reidmar cover it nicely!!
19. seconded. mine arrived on Sat..excellent piece of kit.
20. New control knobs on the plexi P? I just couldn't see it for ages! Or maybe the new picture on the bottom shelf of the bookcase?
21. Harmonica at start of Supertramp's 'School' and I'm always ready for 'take the long way home'
