  1. Yay the snow gig! We piled over to Bracknell in 4 different cars, under grey skies. A few flakes started falling while we loaded in, the 2 barmen commented, 'might be a quiet night' By the time we started, snow was 3 inches deep and audience was 1 man and his dog...honest! It got no better and at half time, the barmen said, knock it off guys, snow is getting worse...and he paid us! He wasn't kidding about the snow, I got stuck behind jack-knifed lorries on a hill on the M25......for 4 flippin hours, got home about 03.30, guitarist had to abandon his care 4 miles from home and walk...guitar in hand lol. The other two got home ok and annoyed me for hours....'are you there yet?'
  2. In the 1st iteration of the current band, some 11 years ago, our 1st drummer (also the singer) wanted to do a gig local to me, with his brother (good keyboard player but agrophobic) they hired a room above a pub, did all their own promo, on the day of the gig he texts me asking if he could borrow the band stage lighting rig, which I had. Given I was in bed with a migraine at the time I wasn't best pleased. Still, I loaded up the motor, set up the gear, and said I'll be back later to de-rig, "stay around" he begged, "we need the numbers" the numbers were currently me.......and his girlfriend..........and so it stayed all night, not a soul appeared, I fell asleep under a table with my earplugs in praying to my head to stop exploding. the girlfriend woke me with a kick at the end, scowled at me and told me to get rid of the lights...charming!!
  3. Ahh Lozz ya beat me to it..was gonna add you too!! I'm much too modest to add myself of course.......... Google also show Mickey Broome, a fellow bass player!
  4. Never heard that before, its fookin AWESOME!!! helluva driving bassline I was 10 in '70, if it wasn't on radio 1, I had no clue......
  5. We still do Thunder's cover of In a broken dream, its an awesome song!! Great to see someone wanting to cover Curved Air, there are a few CA tracks I'd love to do, but I can't see me getting em past the rest of the band lol
  6. I have a couple of Planet Wave cables and a couple of Cordial ones. I've had em so long long it was before I had heard of OBBM cables, never gonna get my OBBM ones now, so these buggers had better last a bit longer!! At the time, I bought em cos they had green bits on the plugs and made em stand out a bit........shallow...moi???
  7. As First posts go, that's a doozie, and a nice zombie thread rez too!
  8. I'd love a Gus bass, and that body artwork is excellent IMO, I'd bet I can't afford one though!
  9. I used that line in the 'live albums' thread. In that context I meant that it made me realise that music wasn't just the pre-packaged 'same every time' item that i heard on the top 40 every Tuesday lunchtime, it was alive, fluid, ever changing, never the same twice. This revelation made me 'get' why people went to see bands live over and again, you may hear the same songs, but the experience is never the same, this was part of my growing up, and truly did change my outlook on life.
  10. Re the OP's ULEZ reference, I had Toyota Prius's as company cars between 2009 and 2016, while not exactly a spirited drive, a bass in a gigbag fits horizontally across the back, with room for either my Eden 4x10 or latterly a barefaced 2x10, plus soft bags for cables, amps etc and all hidden from sight.
  11. The ones that blew me away as a kid, and made me want to see live bands.... Slade Alive Curved Air..Live Genesis, Seconds Out Jethro Tull, Bursting Out I have many more live albums in my collection, but those few, at that particular time, changed my life completely
  12. Now THAT is absolutely spot on! Love that paint job, and its a P, perfect!
  13. Just seen it too, sad news indeed. Rest Peacefully Charlie.
  14. I have no words.....but thank you Ped for breaking this horrible news to us all in such a perfect way. RIP chap.
  15. This is awesome...well worth waiting for!! BC was the last of my regular visited websites to go dark, SO much better now...Thanks Ped!
  16. Barefaced use Roqsolid for their gear, can't be a bad endorsement. https://www.roqsolid.co.uk/wp/amp-and-cab-covers-roqsolid-protection/
  17. Ive got an old Squier PJ I steampunked up a bit ages ago, its got a more battered brass looking bridge and string tree on it now too
  18. This is exactly how I started playing bass. At age 43 I worked out it was the bass lines I had been singing along to since I was about 12, not the guitar solos!!
