1. FFS.... weird, but I kinda liked it. Russell looking more like Ron every day... can't be happy with that lol
2. Yup me too, will knock up anything you desire!
3.
I die a bit inside with this one too. Then when I hear that the guitarist hasn't even bothered to get the right effect on the intro I come back to life and die again.
Guitarist?? 2 6 stringers in my band and I have to do the intro!! One of my few forays up to the dusty end
4.
Stevie Nicks sounds like a goat being molested, but Fleetwood Mac have sold out all their UK shows this year.
Is Fumps back then?
5. *takes deep breath* Maple fretboards. there I said it. Had a Jazz with one and after the honeymoon period, it felt just wrong even picking it up. Can't explain why...I think I'm just odd.
6. Very pretty! But I really don't need another bass..GLWTS
7.
I like them and fit them to most of my P basses, I play like a thug and they are much stronger than a BBOT, but do not feel they improve tone or sustain (whatever sustain is )
I love the mental image I get from that...brilliant I can also sympathise with you, my action tends to be quite high, otherwise strings are forever clagging off the pole pieces!
8. Whoa..wotta great find I do like me a bit of Jeff Healey
9.
Luckily our singer has all three abilities that are mentioned in the post above. As much is it hurts to admit it that is - no good fuelling these singers egos too much.
I can vouch for that, he is one cocky little sod!
10. http://www.bestbassgear.com/ebass/repair/passive-tone-controls-explained.html Does this help? Tone control turned fully clockwise is effectively 'off' with the full treble frequencies getting to the amp. as you wind the knob anticlockwise more high frequencies are bled to ground giving a more bassy sound.
11.
60s P bass into EBS Reidmar, Gain at 2 o'clock, comp at 12 o'clock, slight mid boost about 750k, bright off, bass tweaked to suit room. Generally have the controls on the guitar wide open unless the DI really has loads of top end in it at which point I'll roll the tone most of the way off. My tuner is in the line out and is really the only part of the rig I'd change going to one in the effects loop.
Holy smokes! If my gain goes past about 11 o'clock, walls start coming down! and thats with either of my passive P's. Okay it feeds into a BF compact and goes through a zoom B3, but that kinda gain is unknown territory for me..and I play against 2 Marshall halfstacks!
12. About 2 xmas's ago we had 2 gigs back to back, the annual Xmas bash, followed by a friends birthday party, I fell with terrible flu about 3 days beforehand, and being 4 days before xmas, no deps to be had, 1st gig I soldiered through, but the following night...well I have absolutely no recollection of it whatsoever. I remember loading the car, and waking up the following day feeling like an army had marched over me...nothing in between at all, the rest of band said I looked a bit off and wasn't saying much, but apparently I played ok. I'm still not sure if that means I can play on autopilot, or that no one listens to me anyway!
13. I think its just us bass players, cos I get embarrassed too, or think, 'he's just taking the micky' I try to be polite though, just in case........
14. Certainly sound like they are enjoying themselves!
15. A while back Fumps borrowed a DVD off me and as a result he sent me a load of gaffa tape (he works in the industry I believe) which has kept me going for the best part of 2 years. As mentioned already, no other forum I frequent is as nice as you guys!
16. Dakota *sigh* We had a load of youngies come in near the end and made so much fuss that they had missed it, we had to do it again the place went mad, the landlord was happy as Larry and gave us a 50 quid bonus!
17. 19 I could name plus about 6 I recognised but couldn't name, sadly mine was nowhere to be seen. guess I'm not a good poster!!
18. A guitarist mate has one which I lust after playing on a regular basis....damn him for being a lefty!!!! Tried one in PMT a few years ago, but I was a nervous noob then and had no clue what I was doing, all I remember was the PU arrangement getting in the way and not being able to find a comfortable playing position
19.
Not that you could ever know it was genuine, but 'Real name & Photo' would kill a lot of 9am-5pm traffic
Now THAT is a well made point
20. I don't understand most of that guff..so I just ignore it.....better for my blood pressure! Also gives a perverse sense of pleasure when the offending person gets annoyed with me for me not understanding them!!
21.
As a side note, this always amuses me, we're not idiots - despite what you may think:
Dont think that proves anything, if I log in at work, my damn lappy never remembers my login details and I won't bother re-entering them unless I have something to say, so there is a good chance one of those 'guests' for example, was me.
22. I miss Fumps He always said the right thing to make me smile.
