  1. The Police, Message in a Bottle. When I auditioned for a band 3 months later and they said, learn that, I was happy, turned up on the day and found they played it in a different key, I had no concept then of what they meant. Luckily they talked me through the changes and I was in!!

If you are in a band already that is a huge leap already taken, especially if, as you say you are the weakest link, it makes you try all the harder. you will learn more playing with real people than you could ever learn off the internet. I know cos thats' exactly what happened to me when I started 11 years ago! Good luck, and welcome to Basschat!

Finger style fell naturally to me, but some songs in the set lists of yore just demanded a pick, I used to get horrendous cramps in my right hand as I gripped the pick so tightly, if I focussed on my right hand to keep a light grip, I'd forget what I was playing! I stuck to pick on really simple bass line/ songs, Doctor Doctor by UFO for example, and eventually it became 2nd nature...took fookin ages though. Dava picks for me BTW, nice a grippy, pretty colours lol and the sound I wanted.   17. My this man is busy! Just had his pearlescent silver P off him for a top price, new set of strings and now off to rehearse, was well worth the trip and Andy is a lovely fella!
