Moderator changes

Yes, we're in the process of commissioning a developer to set it up.
2. Hi everyone This is just a quick note to let you know of a few changes. First up we've lost two mods due to time commitments but gained six more. So we're very grateful to Urb and Mythste for helping us out and hope they'll come back again at some point when they can afford the time. However we'd also like to welcome on board Charic, Gust0o, iCastle, McGraham, MB1 and Silverfoxnik! We're also making a few admin changes. As some of you may be aware, we're hoping to start up a basschat equivalent for guitarists and drums soon. So Ped and I are finding that our time is tending to be focussed on that, more than BC although clearly we'll still be part of the chat. In the meantime, Hamster has agreed to take over the day-to-day administration of Basschat. Also, Dood and Machines have agreed to help with the establishment of the new guitar forum so Dood has become an Admin also. Thanks very much to everyone above for your help. The forum would be a different and much poorer place without your support.
3. I know! It's Tony Goggle!!! He did an album called 'Catapault'
4. BigRed - in some ways this thread would be perfect blog material.
5. I've been tempted by one - when I tried it before I had the highs compressed and the lows uncompressed. It was great for taming brittle sounding basses.
6. Most people yawn with their mouths...
7. By reducing mass, you can end up with a growlier bass. But its possible to go too far and have an instrument that lacks any warmth or depth.
8. Ads for Rickenbacker copies are being placed in the classifieds which include images that overlook John Hall's claim on trademark rights. It's the responsibility of all members using the classifieds to ensure they don't infringe on those trademark rights. I'm sure this isn't being done deliberately, but its not something the site can afford to be complacent on. Or, for that matter, members given the terms and conditions.
"You agree to indemnify and hold harmless the Administrator and the Administrator's subsidiaries, affiliates, related parties, officers, directors, employees, agents, independent contractors, advertisers, partners, and co-branders, from any claim or demand, including reasonable attorney's fees, that may be made by any third party, due to or arising out of your conduct or connection with this web site or service, your provision of content, your violation of these terms of use, or any other violation of the rights of another person or party."
This means that if court action is bought against Basschat as a result of a members advert, the forum has a right to seek compensation from that member. If we find ads that contain content that puts the forum at risk, that content may be edited or deleted and a warning issued (or worse, if it attracts another complaint from John Hall before a mod has seen it). We'd be grateful for co-operation from classified users on this, it'll help everyone concerned avoid the risk of unnecessary complication.
9. Thats great to hear, congratulations! I was looking for one for a long time...at least until I got the opportunity to buy an Alembic.
10. Was this the one on Ebay that sold for US$1500 recently?

12. Hmmm, those are kind of specialist, its unlikely we'd sell enough to get deals. But lets see...
13. Good point, well presented. We can look into it. Pork pie hat? Beany?
14.
Funny how experiences vary. I've bought a fair amount of stuff from Allparts UK and they've only messed up twice. On both occasions they sent an incorrect component - a truss-rod box spanner of the wrong size and - later - a jack-socket plate of the wrong shape. Both times they told me to keep the parts (which I used on other projects) and sent me replacements within 24 hours. In respect of delivery times, one assumes they're at the mercy of the US end of the operation and therefore tell customers what they've been told themselves. As with all these retailer issues, one's mileage may vary. I've bought regularly from most of the UK online parts shops (shopping around for prices is always fun) and they've all had problems at some point.
I had similar issues when ordering a Moses jazz neck. Three shipments missed. Moses were apparently to blame because they might have been moving premises around then (according to Steve Moses) and when the neck finally did arrive, All-parts gave me a free t-shirt by way of apology. It may well be that they get dicked about by US distributors because they're not a big enough client to be a priority if stock is a bit thin on the ground.
15.
Hey Kiwi, More welcomes from the burgh!
Lets hope this doesn't lead to confusion
16.
Tuba Smarties... say no more.
The best track!
17. Herbie seemed embarrassed about it. I didn't care though. I liked his playing on Toccata in Dm while I was still a drummer... ...hmmm. Yep I need to quit while I'm ahead.
18. Sky 2 - takes me back to pre-teen days before we shifted to NZ.
19. I like the sound. Not sure if its the amp or the cab but its very natural. I can see why jazz players would prefer these amps.
20. ...plus the Bee Gee's, Stayin' Alive. So cheesy its got to be worth a parody? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I_izvAbhExY
21. These are my favourites: OK Go with the treadmills http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dTAAsCNK7RA And Feist http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ABYnqp-bxvg All done in single shots as well - so no mistakes allowed with the choreography...
22. I'm a complete noob when it comes to Smart phones. I had one of the XDA Execs when they came out originally but my current mobile is 6 years old and thats how I prefer it at the moment. No GPS. What would the best Basschat app help people do?
23.
Ah, that's really sad to hear. Bob played one of my favourite bass lines - Midnight Train to Georgia, so melodic. A real loss.
Oh wow, was that him? That line is beautiful! One of my faves, I used to love playing it.
