1. I've owned three, a Cutlass 1, a Cutlass II and a Cutlass 1 ex Cliff Williams with thru body string anchoring and three bolt neck. Have yet to find one capable of supplying low action but I live in hope... ...do you have any pics of the marker numbers written on the heel of the neck on your instrument?
 2. This is really interesting. How are you calculating paths? I've played around a little with this as well...free CAD software http://www.emachineshop.com/

 4.
Perhaps they're more profitable than the core business?
Perhaps a lot of things.
 5. My concerns are: 1) Have they over extended themselves and remained overextended inspite of the recession? 2) Why are they floating shares rather than selling off subsidiaries like SWR? I've seen share float used to raise revenue shortly before owner/directors retire...

"an integrated live sound solution that uses touchscreen-based visual mixing to explode the traditional mixer/outboard gear paradigm." "The clash between right-brain artistry and left-brain analytics often derails the creative flow. StageScape was designed to avoid the left-brain/right-brain duality by removing layers of non-creative tasks between you and your live mix." Translation: a user friendly interface. They'll get an award for high quality twaddle at this rate.
 7. Sure, basically I felt the barts in the Pentabuzz tended to stifle both the singing character and the upper mids (the thup sound as your fingers release a string). So I did a bit of research and decided on Alembic Aviators and pretty much paid through the nose for them. In hindsight, I would have gone custom instead because you could probably mount any flat response PJ set and get the same results. The East pre has been on a few of my instruments. It's a clear sweet sounding preamp which doesn't sound too brittle. Nice combo with the Pentabuzz and it gives me that all important control over the mids. On stage with the GK RB700 1x15 combo I used to have, I could get a gentle feedback going with the mids and it was like playing with a sustainer. Just a gorgeous sound...the aural equivalent of having warm chocolate dripped into each ear hole. Does your Hexabuzz have soap bars? I remember Shockwave looking into getting replacement soapbars for his Pentabuzz. Andy at Wizard said he thought they were too narrow to produce a decent sensing field so couldn't build them to be a direct replacement. Might be something worth thinking about if you look into replacements. Just check yours are made for a 6 string and not a 5.
 8.
Always wanted to play this, cant understand why more covers bands dont do it, could even become the new Alright Now.
Taking a look at the bass player in that vid...I'm very worried for you.
 9. Alcohol before a gig makes me feel lethargic, so I never touch it until after a gig.
 10. Durability? Quartz is rated 7.0 on the Mohs scale. Stainless steel is rated 5.5 - 6.0 but quartz is also very brittle. Crystal frets are not going to result in noticeable sustain or amplification by themselves, there's more to creating sustain than just hard frets. It requires a more rigid neck/fingerboard too but that also changes tone...you might notice more prominent attack, just like stainless steel frets but that may also result in more clatter, depending on what the fingerboard is made from.
 11. Don't believe the hype, we're all failed guitarists really...just like Paul McCartney. Welcome.
 12. It's a bit like fishing stories over there, only someone ends up having to take the brunt of it. You aren't the first to experience it.
 13. Do they sound like Fender combos?
 14. Wow, that looks like a class act!
 15. That price is almost insulting the intelligence of the bass players...
 16. Wish there was some vids of them being played. http://www.avbasses.com/AVB3-5AV.html The body woods are a combo of my favourites.
 17.
Yeah kinda takes me back too, What was funny is that all of the legal mumbo jumbo was all based off of speculation.
Welcome to the world of forums, where ignorance rarely gets in the way of an opinion.
 18.
A psychologist would have a field-day with this thread! On finding "the one" must one abandon all others as long as ye shall live?
This is the core principle behind marriage...only basses don't judge us if we play around a bit...
Hi all, i am in the process of looking to sell the two Fenders in my signature as i am just a bedroom player who really has no need for three quality basses.
Oh get off. I'm essentially a bedroom player too (for now)

Look at the obsessive attention to detail in the use of the bandsaw...the painstaking and obsessive compulsive manner they stacked the wood. On the other hand, they could just be whacking out product to meet demand...I could be wrong though...
 20.
Really hoping that my good fortune drags out a bit longer because I've got a really promising second interview for a job next Friday
Hope you don't go dressed like that...
 21. In reply to the OP: Yes. I've tried my Spector against all sorts and its wiped the floor. It's closest competitor would be a Smith BSR5 or Yamaha BBNEII. I can't think of a way to improve it. Not all the sound I like hearing is from the instrument, some of it comes from the peavey amp and EBS speakers. But I have the sound that is in my head.
