Talk to Simon Farmer at GUS Guitars, a very helpful chap but I'd be surprised if you got much change out of 600 quid. He will also prefer to lay the layers on top of a wooden (typically cedar) form rather than make a mold. Its a cheaper approach for one offs. He can do a mold for you if you want a monocoque (hollow) neck but its extremely expensive for one neck.
dude you have some serious gear!!!!!!!!
Toys at the moment, still looking for another band.
love it all
Cheers
i recently got a euro 4 and now ihave a usa 5 !!!!!! spector body shape fits my belly sooooo welll!!!! and the sound is awesome, does the u retro make that much difference?
The bass control has more of an effect than the stock Spector and the variable mid control helps target the growly mid-frequencies for boost. It's a sweet sounding pre too, not too hi-fi but still sounds clean. It'll be fitted to the Pentabuzz soon because I could use the extra control. I don't like the EMG pickups though in the spectors, they're very aggressive sounding to my ears.
Am i right in thinking you've changed out the pickups and preamp in your shuker 6? any particular reason?
I've changed the pickups, because the stainless steel frets and maple board are extremely bright to the point of sounding brittle. I hoped that a set of wizards that were the same as fitted to my spectors would tone the sizzle down compared to the Delanos that were fitted originally but unfortunately this hasn't worked. I didn't anticipate how clean the ceramic magnets were in the custom pickups fitted to the spector. The Noll 3 band parametric eq does a pretty good job in taming the super highs but the degree of intervention still bugs me. I may end up just getting the fingerboard replaced with something darker sounding like rosewood or bubinga and use brass based frets rather than stainless as used on Warwicks.

Dave's a member here, I believe.

Two Annie Lennox albums 'Bare' and 'Songs of Mass Destruction' fit the criteria for me, plus they make great playalong tunes for fretless. I've been doing a lot of fretless playing recently. Diva is another cracker but less melancholy.
Well, then, my mistake. Apparently, I was under the impression that you were interested in discussing the matter. Evidently, however, this was just an announcement. I'm sorry I'm not patting you in the back, but I disagree with the philosophy behind this move.
Thanks for your input but if you read the original post, I just asked if anyone was going to be adversely affected. You have 194 posts as of your response above so it looks like you won't be affected at all.
Do you seriously feel that way?
Sadly, it's not a personally-held conviction that I'm prepared to defend until the bitter end.
Much like skankdelvar, I find this restriction to be more potentially harmful than otherwise. I don't think you'll reap the potential benefits you expect to, but the scenario will, at best, be mixed.
Skank has already stated comments were based on a misperception. In any case, I can't find a setting behind the scenes that allows access to be restricted to particular forums based on post count or membership rank, just membership status, and I've been advised that creating a setting would be "complicated" by Prof. Phatmonkey. I feel like quoting a line from Shakespeare's "Much Ado About Nothing", but regrettably I'm not that well read. Instead I'll just change the description on the Ebay links forum so its clearer what the purpose of the forum is.

Might cost you a bit unless you have friendly contacts in the electro plating industry.

No worries. I can't help but wonder if the process might have been simpler if we'd just went ahead implemented it, though.
Is the volume of one-off's really worth worrying about?
Not in the short term but in the long term it artificially inflates forum membership numbers and makes management of all accounts more time consuming.
In fact, a block is counter-productive, IMHO. Here's why: * Blocks off people who might turn into useful contributors. What's wrong with people who initially join to sell? Of course their first post is going to be "Here's my X for sale". Lots of us here did just that and stuck around.
There's nothing wrong with people joining initially to sell. That isn't the proposal here. The proposal is to limit access to a forum that was created for the purpose of discussing Ebay links, not advertising them. I guess that hasn't really been made explicitly clear but it was the understanding behind the initial creation of the forum (which was in response to popular requests IIRC)
* Discriminates against long-term 'readers not posters'
The forum can still be viewed by long term lurkers.
* Links will turn up in 'for sale' anyhow
Which is probably the best place for them, to be honest. The membership has already expressed some fairly strong views about For Sale threads that just list a link and no other information.
* If we say there's a min of 50 posts, what sort of post should they be - and where? If OT doesn't count, then they're going to clog up the 'useful' forums with all sorts of guff to reach their threshold. So, instead of one offending post, you've got 50. That's the same as allowing 50 one-off's.
Not sure that the kind of people who would go to that kind trouble would necessarily be welcome by the time they achieve their objective.

For me, feel is about emotional emphasis, using small variations in volume, sustain and timing. Before I can add feel to something though, I need to be able to interpret the song...
But who's going to do that. Like the man said, you choose a few active and a few passive tones that work for you. Those are what you use.
If someone isn't going to use all the features to their fullest extent I don't see what the value is in having them. Why not just have the settings hardwired once the decision about settings has been made? If the sales pitch was more honest, it's a good demo bass. Players would get most of the value from the added flexibility after a month when they've decided for themselves which settings work best. After that, its no more useful than a regular bass...unless the live gigging situation changes genres dramatically. The number of players out there who could use this feature fully is likely to be very small compared to the number of players who are prepared to believe this feature will make them appear more professional. Even in the studio most producers won't have the patience to wait for a bass player to faff about with pickup settings, (unless the bass player is paying the bills). The bass player needs to have that stuff all locked down in their own time before turning up. I don't have an issue with anyone who wants to buy one BTW, I just think the marketing is disingenuine and based on novelty value rather than real improvements in design.

My experience agrees with the Grand Wazoo, its just ridiculous for playing live. Most soundmen would go mental if pickups were being changed every 20 seconds while mid-set...or between songs for that matter.
Come on, man, that's nonsense
Bedroom player!

When the cottonbud meets resistance, stop pushing. -
With this and the EB Gamechanger...does this mean that manufacturers are starting to run out of ideas for useful improvements that they can make to products?
If you want a darker sound maybe active pickups isn't the way to go - a good passive Jazz set might be more suitable.
That would probably be the approach I'd take although if I got the pickups wrong, it could be a potentially expensive road to follow if trialling others.

Yamaha NAMM, Nathan East limited edition and YAMAHA ATTITUDE 3!
Kiwi replied to AttitudeCastle's topic in Bass Guitars
Those BBNEII basses are very special indeed, gorgeous sounding and feeling. Too expensive outside Japan though. -
The integrated circuit based switching system has been done by others...but its certainly never been marketed in this way before. I have my Spectors modified for 10 different coil combinations and I only use 5 at the most. I think its a gimmick, EB are clearly targeting bedroom players who don't have enough playing experience to know what they don't need to buy in order to sound good. Honestly, Steve Morse and Dave La Rue just come across as A-grade bullsh*tt*rs.
A good while ago, someone (Crazykiwi?) recommended Bartolinis for a graphite necked bass I think.
Yep, had a soapbar in a modulus fretless and it took the edge off the sizzle. Wouldn't otherwise normally recommend them - too woolly. Also consider an SWR head with it if you like clean (but not hi-fi) scooped jazz bass sounds.
Do painters and musicians use the same parts of the brain for the creative process ? Just a thought. T
Depends on the creative process, I think.

John Cage is one of a number of creatives who have challenged the thinking behind art. Marcel Duchamp's infamous toilet installation kind of started the ball rolling. Some might argue that the definition of art is all about exploring what the definition of art is...which is self justifying and circular, but paradoxes themselves often hide a truth. Advertising guru Tony Kaye took a dump in an LA art gallery (with the gallery staff's permission) once and claimed it was art. The message was 'art is sh*t'.
