1. Oooh! I'm guessing 35"scale though?
2.
I think a "great" bass, is one that you connect with. Which is something where i think the price tag doesn't really come into it, though if you find some £200 Made in Korea bass which your really dig but say some build quality or finishing quality issues show, or its just old and battered and needs to be retired after years of service, a "high end" version with similat to identical specs makes sense, (If that post makes sense!) But in the end the "greatness" is in the feel, not in the price IMHO
+1 Still prefer my 650 quid used spector for sound and feel to all the other basses.
3.
America doesn't work.
Do you mean American culture? I percieve it spans the gamut of human experience. I don't believe its possible or wise to generalise.
4.
I think the op was trying making a point - I don't know what point as I don't frequent TB - I would guess that there have been a few really dumb questions/polls of late.
The point I perceive being made is 'look at me'.
5. I like SS Steve, it doesn't matter to me if he's percieved as putting it on. I've got his first CD and yes its a little lack lustre in places which is disappointing. However thats the style he plays and he doesn't seem to me to be anything other than he is... ...EVEN if that risks appearing lack lustre. Besides which you can't blame him for surfing the wave of popularity while it lasts any more than Lady Gaga.
6. All the benefits of older instruments but none of the disadvantages?
7. Bump. Noone visiting soon?
8. nah, thats a bargain. Someone pull the trigger.
9. Hmmm, I wonder if it would work with my Shuker and its GHOST pre and midi sensors...
10. He's always over stretched in my experience. He probably wouldn't have it any other way
11. LOL I just need a strat body rescuing. It's been 2 years and he doesn't appear to be returning my emails. I'm just hoping some kind person out there might be willing to collect and package it up for me...all costs paid for. I'll organise a courier if its collectable during the day.
12.
You should have gotten the one where he flashes his arse. That would have the rest running to save their eyes
I confess I haven't followed him THAT closely...
13. He's built like a wrestler!
14. This dude says "come on tough guy...if u hard enough".
15. I've got Gilmour playing fretless on Big Bottom with Spinal Tap on DVD at the Secret Policemen's Ball
16. John said he'd agreed an endorsement so perhaps it was a done deal?
17. DUDE YOU HAVE ONE OF THE LEGENDARY JACO FRETLESSES!!!
18. If so, and you'd be willing to do me a favour, could you please drop me a PM?
19. Could anyone who has a GA24 give me the body width? I have a vague recollection its something like 15"?
20. I posted this on my facebook profile the other day. Its way cool, I still think they look like they've been thrown out of Dexy's Midnight Runners for being overdressed though.
21. sh*t man, that sucks. I wish people didn't have to sell gear just to keep the wolf from the door. I've been there myself.
22.
Really Kiwi, I wish you'd shown me where I could buy one for that price. I fear your love Uncle Ken could be colouring your normally excellent judgement . I fully appreciate you've bought / sold / owned many more Smiths than I, but having played "Hunt the Smith" recently I couldn't find one ( except with a very badly damaged neck which had been repaired ) for less than £2k, and god knows I looked long and hard for some time all over Europe and the US of A too. I stand by what I said, I think £2k is a VERY good price at the moment and if I needed another or could justify it to my significant other I'd be all over it.
I sold all three of mine at different times in about 6-8 weeks from the time they were made available. Two were sold through the Bass Gallery and one was sold to a friend. It wasn't as if my arm was being taken off in any instance, and Alex thought my expectations weren't too low. Maybe the demand for them has gone up in the last couple of years?
23. Alembic Series 1 graphite.
24. I wouldn't consider buying a BSR5EG for more than 2k. I think 1.8-2k is fine.
25. The Alembic...probably.
