1. The amps are pretty good. The speakers are a little woolly, but do add some nice growly midrange to a jazz bass.
2. Congratulations to Mark on getting these instruments in. Maybe the recession has made Ken a little keener to do business outside Japan and the US. A couple of years ago Alex said Ken refused to take an order from the Bass Gallery because they didn't sell enough of his instruments! Thats why the Gallery have never bothered offering them since.
3.
Why not fit a set of Fender tiltback legs? £50? And piggyback clips and screws if you're running a head / cab arrangement. Another £50 imported?
Legs don't achieve enough angle for me. I'm nearly 2m tall and on small stages have to stand next to the amp. A stand could be one solution (assuming one can be found to take the weight of a cab) but then that would be an extra bit of kit that needs loading/unloading and setting up. I think a tiltback cab is a much more efficient and stable solution.
4. I loved my GK RB700 combo and for small stages the tiltback feature was invaluable for getting sound to my ears. Otherwise the amp would be blasting into the audience below my knees. I'd still have it if it hadn't started giving me back problems. I've been approaching custom cabinet makers over the years with requests to build a lightweight tiltback cab and strangely enough noones interested. Ended up doing the initial design for one myself but haven't got the power tools yet to start.
5. I ended up deleting 26 posts! No porn on this one but lost of puffer jackets from a chinese site masquerading as an american ski clothing outlet.
6.
Any one with an internet connection and the ability to post online.
Thats not what I meant. What I meant was its not possible to isolate the contribution of so many different elements.
7. His claims have basis in fact, but he's taking massive leaps in logic and contorting the facts to fit his circumstances. The case with the strad violin was more theory than fact. (The only way to prove the fact would be to strip a strad and remeasure its resonancy peaks). Varnish tends to have MORE of an impact on hollow instruments like violins. Less so with solid instruments because they've been designed to be more rigid. Who can say how much the sound of a specific instrument is finish and how much is wood/electronics/hardware?
8. So we need to delete the argybargy account?
9. Anywhere the walls are made out of stone or glass and are highly reflective. We played at the top of the Gherkin for a wedding once which was a nightmare, same for the conservatory at a venue in Herts (stone AND glass). You can't eq for it, the only solution is to turn down (doesn't tend to stay low for long though).
10. As far as I know, they're a more modern sounding amp than the V series. Personally I don't see the point of having a tube preamp if there's no eq capability. Check the pots and switches though, they can wear out easily.
11. Um, any links?
12. I'd like it, if you decide to pass.
13. If you've registered duplicate accounts, we'd prefer to reset the password/email on your old one.
14. Black hardware on an LX is unusual. What year is it?
15. 5 amps, two cabs
16. can't help I'm afraid, they're not coming up on the membership database :/
17. If its not working its not working, better to pass the bass on than risk irritating an old injury. I remember the Elan 6 I had weighed at least 13 or 14lbs, it was a monster.
18. Shame you have to sell this Clarky. The Spoilers, Europas and Elans are pretty heavy instruments though. The Series I/II instruments have hollow bodies so don't have the weight issues. Good luck with the sale.
19. Rhonda nails it every time. She's awesome.

21. lovely job! thanks for sharing
22. Threads combined.
23. This is a great bass. Phenomenal value for money. Build quality is similar to instruments five times the asking price.
24. It sounds to me like a bass set on the bridge pickup but the bridge pickup is very close to the bridge. It also has a hard fingerboard of some description and super low action with the pickups set close to the strings. That set up in combination would give the prominent mid range. Effects wise - heavy compression, a little analogue chorus and some selective eq on the treble with a parametric equaliser to take out the string noise. But its mostly the bass. There's some delay used but its very selective according to sections of the song and would be difficult to emulate on stage unless you were standing with your foot on the select button and could guarantee you could make the delay to the tempo played by your band.
