1. Oh thats a real shame, the pub is an institution in its own right. I've been there a few times.
2. Klaus Noll does a 3 band parametric eq. for the ultimate in versatility. http://www.noll-electronic.de/sites_d/bassel.html Great circuits, Ritter use them. Clean without sounding brittle, warm without losing focus.
3. They're also pretty sensitive so can be used with heads ranging from 100w up to 600w+
4. I've been told by a luthier I know here in NZ that a famous acoustic guitar maker is less discriminate about where some of their wood comes from because they simply can't get enough of it to meet demand when sourced through official channels.
5. I have two Neo 212 cabs I bought one and played it for about 6 months...then I bought another. Good for hollow stages. So light they should be chained to the floor.
6. Hey Jimmy, welcome to the forum. We have a couple of members who have dyslexia and they've found spell-checking to be of some help. Drop me a PM if you would like me to put you in contact with them. Dyslexia shouldn't be a barrier to you enjoying Basschat.

I swear...I've just soiled my keyboard. Nick, if you buy this bass your claims about being poor will never wash on this forum again.
8. Oh god, I hope he's removed the almost-rascist impersonations of chinese people. My chinese partner, who I took to see him, dealt with it very graciously.
9. Hi Alex, welcome aboard Hope u have some fun here.
10. Finger strength is important but you don't need to be like this bloke: The reason why martial artists don't look like this... ...is because extra bulk slows them up and reduces the amount of control they can exercise. Also by over exercising you risk tendonitis, muscle strain and other issues. Plus you may also be exercising a different set of muscles with rubber bands or hand exercisers to the ones that you actually use to play with. I'd suggest just practice regularly to the level that you need and when your fingers or hands start to feel sore take a break for a day or two. Your strength will build up naturally. Consider a heavier gauge of strings than the ones you normally use if you have a second bass?
11. The wood in a bass provides the structural rigidity but it also dampens certain frequencies selectively which gives it tonal character. Basses that have graphite composite necks also have a frequency response but its normally less marked so the instrument often sounds more responsive but across a broader range of frequencies, some of which may not necessarily sound attractive. The pickups have inherent tonal characteristics, all pickups have a frequency peak but their design influences where that peak happens and how significant it is. The preamp can also have a tonal character if it has been designed with a mid scoop (like Aguilar) or bass boost (like the GB circuits). Its also possible to get preamps with sweepable bands but a sweepable band is never going to compensate for the characteristics of wood because the peaks in wood are that much sharper and narrower in width. Depending on the desired end result, a bass maker can select elements so that similar frequency characteristics are enhanced (eg. Stingray), compensatory (Pedulla) or as neutral as possible (Alembic).
12. I have an EMG BTS in one of my Spector NS5CRs which I will be replacing shortly. It sounded OK I guess but was a bit harsh with the EMG DC40's. Sounds better with the replacement pickups. I have the EMG pre up for sale but many of us Spector owners have installed onboard eq circuits by John East. The sweepable mids add extra versatility.
13. Does one of my Spectors count at US$600?
14. I got mine sent over from the US. Just type in the model number and you'll find any number of online resellers. I got mine for $219 on sale excl shipping. Here's one place doing one for $229. http://www.abesofmaine.com/item=TECDAB3000~item.htm And another place doing one for $224 http://www.sbhcorp.com/scripts/homeViewItem-1975.html
15.
WOW! When I were a lad, workin' int' shop, we used to sell these. We had the 501 and the 502 - probably my favourite guitar amp It is a VERY long time ago, but we put them up against all sorts of stuff and as far as I can remember, it was very close to a Messa Boogie. BLOODY loud - not even seen one for years - didn't even know he did bass amps!! Look at all the workmanship in there - almost a work of art!! How much do the 501's go for these days? Santa's coming soon!!
For a while they were £250 or so, then for a brief period they shot up to £600 and now the price appears to have come down to about £300 again. Hardly saw any on Ebay but quite a few have surfaced in the last 6 months or so. So now is the time to buy if you've wanted one.
16. I have one of these: http://tpro.com/prods.php?prod=DA-B3000&am...SESSID=tbompxid Works fine and has proven to be reliable so far.
17. I've seen an 4 banger version that was a Ritteresque riot of grain patterns.
18. OK, I've just finished playing the bass after making adjustments to the wiring options from the toggle switches. The coil/parallel/coil mode didn't result in as much distinction as I would have liked but the differences in sounds are still noticable. The inside coils don't make as much of a stingray-ish sound as I suspected. If anything it reminds me of an Aria SB1000 - the single pickup version. I did wonder whether it might be worth putting LED's in so I can still which coils are which. Also thought about whether it might be worth putting in a rotary selector instead of the toggle switches as well...
19.
The 80`s were THE worst time for music. Depeche mode, Spandau ballet, Paul young, Howard jones, etc... I rest my case. Jez
I dunno, I'm thankful for the 80's, there may have been some cheese produced but at least the fan base didn't take itself so seriously. I found the 90's were far worse. I was doing a fine art degree at the time and I had to escape the studio because my classmates insisted on having the radio tuned into the uni radio station and all they seemed to play were the Smiths and indie music. It got to a point where I couldn't listen to one more dirge but everyone else liked it because it was cool. At least people listened to happy music in the 70's and 80's and the element of musical craft/skill was appreciated. In my experience the 90's were dire, depressing and dumbed down.
20. Yamaha BB5000 necks are pretty chunky although the string spacing is also quite narrow. Are you looking for depth or width? Also, my Spector NS5CR (from the SSD era, with the dot neck) is pretty chunky also.
21.
Wow, thats really really nice!
What, Leamington Spa?
22. I know, kick me please. I just have this thing now about Spector NS5CR's, playing the sunburst one right now along to a Four Play DVD and with the mods I've made it sounds smoother than Nathan East's Yamaha. I'm besotted and its starting to get embarrassing.
