1. Chucksten says he will be releasing a calendar next year too, because he says that's what successful musicians do. Bob Carroll's boys over the other side of Sh*t Creek heard about it and say they aim to be there first because they've been practicing their pouts and poses already: Anyways, this thread is going off topic...jeez you guys need to watch that too. Don't be so easily distracted.
2. This is Jabner, Edwise, Chucksten, Old Mama Whelper and down in front is Biscuits. They're all members of my country band. We've cultivated the authentic Appalacian look as you can see and the band is called The Two Tootin' Toonzers. Yep, I know there's more than two of them, but folks around here got so excited about someone coming up with four words all beginning with the same letter than the name more or less stuck. We aren't going to set the world on fire in terms of technique but Jabner and Old Mama learned how to play washboard and spoons when they were young and still brother and sister. Edwise plays the kettle and Biscuits fitted him with a special mouth piece so he can blow into it through his belly button if he can't spit his baccy out in time. We do mostly township festivals, christenings and church fund raisers but Jabner reckons there might be some money at the lawnmower races.
3. it doesn't have a jazz neck though
4. Oh, that'll be a nice pair!
5. I find a touch of perfume and little bit of cleavage helps.
6. Giving this one a bump as it seems to have sunk...
7. Yeah Nik, mustn't grumble. I have a decent job here and a good lifestyle although my salary is half what I was on the UK. So won't be buying any expensive pieces of kit in the forseeable. Good job I set myself up before I left the UK.

diagonal pickup?

I'm not sure that slanted pickups will give meaningful amounts of extra bass (at least in comparison to different windings or using the bass control on the eq), but the higher strings in your description would tend to have a slightly softer attack
9. Ummmmm, there's an audio track of me playing the Skarbye bass here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YKNbijc-UHg And a couple of shots of us in the studio recording it: But nothing of the other two yet. My recording set up has been in disarray since emigrating and with all the other things, I'm only just getting around to finalising the set up this weekend.
10. Gregg just emailed me today out of the blue which thrilled me to bits. I hope my reply wasn't too waffly but I was more than a bit star struck.
11. I have an excuse for being here. I probably don't have the chance to look in as often as I used to though. Too many other demands on my time at the moment and the time difference doesn't make it easy to actively participate in topical conversations.
12. Seem to be a few more owners of these basses showing up since Christmas so I figured we might as well have a Celinder thread and flush some of them out from hiding. Here are my two: 1994 J Update - apparently the second that Chris ever made. I wouldn't mind getting some warmer pickups for it but its not a priority for now. A 2002 P Classic, with a light alder body and a jazz neck. Chris made this for himself as an experiment but later sold it. And one that I sold a while back: The Skarbye bass.
13.
Are you referring to my beloved Sinsonido? A pox on you, sire! S.P.
Hah. Sir...I eat pox for breakfast! But seriously, I tried two that were in the Bass Centre a few years back and they lacked sustain because the body wasn't rigid enough. Yours may be completely different for all I know, though.
14. Well thats what happens when I don't prepare much. I've been so preoccupied with work recently that I'd left it until the last minute although I remember someone mentioning something last year which made me think 'hmm'. The local newspaper caught me out, by printing a 'leaked' spoof story that was directly relevant to my job in the local council. I was on the verge of sending a fairly frank email to my General Manager asking how on earth this had happened when I realised the date...
15. The Aria equivalent of this bass is awful. I hope this is better. I like the 'body' shape.
16.
That's what people do there.
Exactly. Getting rid of off topic will excise that tendency completely and raise the standard of discussion. I will be leading a morning prayer as well. Some of you may have a problem with that but there's no obligation to participate. It will help some of us focus on the day and give thanks for having the forum.
17. We've decided to remove the off topic forum from Basschat. Basically the reason is because it doesn't really get used for discussing anything constructive and the ranting and swearing and sexism is just dragging down the happy clappy atmosphere we'll now be insisting on from this point. There are some members who only seem to be on the forum for off topic as well. So its just better if we get rid of it and get people back to talking about bass. We'll be deleting the group at midday today so if you want to save anything please do it before then.
18. All ur NS5CRFM U-retro are mine...
19. When you look as good as me, you don't care.
I like the way this thread\'s gone - to combine a consideration of both one\'s aesthetic sensibilities and the knock-on effect that has on the image one projects as a performer, and to celebrate an appreciation for a satisfyingly British vulgarism.
And proudly upholding a true British institution in the process.
And in that spirit I can proudly say that it matters not what bass I choose to play, how I dress or indeed which direction I comb my hair in - any time I step on stage, I will never fail to look like a gigantic, absurd arse.
Its possible there could be some situations where that might be an advantage!
20. Be aware that the OBP1 and 3 tend to have a scoopy type sound, if you value your mids. Many spector owners here like the East U-retro with sweepable mids. I also like the Noll 3 band parametric but it requires some permanent modification to the jack socket.

SOLD

ZOINKS!! It's times like this I really curse the fact I live 13,000 miles away.
22.
Spector's have to be one of the classic bass designs. I know I've asked this before (and I have a mind like a sieve), but how do the Euros compare to the USA's ?
Apart from the fingerboard and preamp, there's not a lot of difference between early NS5CRs and NS5XLs. Later Euros had a 35" scale, alder and walnut laminate body wings and there are some early Euros (around 2000-2001) that are a transition between the two.
23. Here are mine (past and present) These are two NS5CR's. The sunburst one is 98 I think and has a thicker neck profile than the natural one. Also sounds a little brighter. Both have 34" scale and the EMG's were replaced by Wizards. The preamps were replaced by a U-retro and a Noll 3 band parametric. The Wizards are much clearer and flatter overall, and I asked for a frequency hump right at the low end of the spectrum so I can get a nice fat B string. The pickups have coil splits which mean I can get a range of sounds including a very convincing Jaydee tone on the bridge coil! And I sold this Euro 6 last year Didn't sound as focussed as the NS5CR basses so I sold it although it was my main gigging bass for a while.
24.
I've played and owned a fair few basses in my lifetime. I've always loved Jazz basses but have only recently taken the plunge and bought a 79. Best purchase ever. It does everything. Anyone else agree?
So what you're saying is that its your favourite bass? I like mine well enough but all the jazz basses I've ever played sound very mid scooped to me. Makes hearing them difficult on stage and I can't feel them as well when I play. So I'd never make one my main bass.
25. Its a jaydee series 1 on both pickups. Nothing else apart from slightly dead strings.
