1. I had an identical pair and they sounded really nice. Just needed a lot of juice.
2. I still have a small regret in selling this amp. It was really nice.
3.
Actually I heard James Jamerson used to lay on the floor in the studio!
According to Standing In The Shadows, he recorded "Whats Goin On" horizontal, one of my favourite motown bass lines Sorry that you've had another set back and I hope you find a way through to keep playing. I don't know about others but I've never found playing on a stool to be all that comfortable for long.
4. I don't think it needs to be a complicated issue. Just get a fretless neck for one of your Fenders (if you have them) and give it a go. If it makes a difference you'll know for yourself.
5. theres a matching Series 4000 fretless on Ebay at the moment, although its got a fair bit of player wear.
6.
Who are they, if you don't mind me asking?
Noone that I know of with a chart topping band at the moment apart from Jimmy but I can't remember what his username is. Although I guess you could count Andrew McKinney/Ian King with JTQ as fairly well known and they've played to thousands. There's also Dave Marks who plays with Rick Parfitt Jnr, Stuart Clayton who tours with Carl Palmer, plus I'm sure some of the other pros (Phil Mann, Mike Brooks, Nick Owen, Jo Nichols, Steve Lawson, Janek Gwisdala) as well as those who have already responded here, must have played to large audiences at one time or another. I think Phil Mulford is a member as well but its been ages since I've seen him post anything. There could be others who I'm not aware of, I guess.
7.
Good to hear he's on the Mika gig. Nick Owen's a top bloke too.
Yeah considering last time we went out for a drink he'd just made the decision to become a touring pro and had stage fright to deal with, I'm just thrilled for him. It took a while for him to get established but he managed to bag a gig backing The Saturdays and now has picked up Mika so I'm really pleased for him. Even if Mika makes him dress up like Two Face. Nick's been on here selling stuff recently as well.
8.
So, anybody been Bass Player for a high profile band. I mean playing in front of 3,000+ fans night on night?
Yes, there are a few members but they tend to be a little busy (touring) so don't post much unless they have gear to sell and they also have tended to be discouraged by people slagging them off. A couple have had it coming, but more often than not I think the crit has been pretty unfair in the past. BTW anyone remember Jimmy Sims from the Bass Centre years ago? He's just started touring with Mika and was on the Letterman show last week. The boy done good. I've also invited Nick Fyffe and Randy Hope-Taylor to drop by and say hi, I know they browse but haven't signed up yet.
9. topic title edited for the benefit of basschat's pedants.
10. that looks pretty technical
11. There's a place in the mall by the marina but it only does cheap stuff. Given its so easy to import, I'd be surprised if there's much demand for pro quality stuff given the likely numbers of musicians living there. Its not exactly a cultural hotspot. The hire companies had OK gear when we played there last year, mostly ashdown though.
12.
Looks like the orchestral tour I took to Belgium in the summer!
Close, they're actually the North Korean ladies Olympic wrestling team out on the razz at China Whites.
13. I don't think I would be able to see the price tag, my eyes would be watering too much.
14. But seriously, thanks for the warm fuzzies.

Hello!

Welcome Stefan Hope you stick around.
16.
its probabl.y betterr than an alembic.
Shush. Or I'll ban you.
17.
I've never been in there. The one time I went it was shut. I'll pop in when I get chance, at the minute I'm without transport, but I live across from the Hospital and have a day off tomorrow so I might pop in.
If you're lucky he'll take you out the back and show you his precious things.
18. Oh ok, I wonder what happened to him? He was really cheap too, I nearly bought a jazz bass body off him but thought better of it because I couldn't tell whether those exotic woods would sound OK.
19. sheer single-bloody-mindedness probably (and LOTS of gigging)
20. Was this one of the many bodies and instruments that was being sold by that brazilian luthier on Ebay?
21. http://www.industrialradio.com.au/bass-construction.html Looks ok, wish they had a 5 string version though. Could be a tricky refret too.
22.
That would cost big money...?
No idea, but he has got a lot of them already pre made that just need finishing. I've been thinking about doing the same to my Update J which was owned by Christian Danstrom. It's in a godawful solid red and fairly beat up but a refin would completely sterilise it. As EBS_freak sensitively suggests, its your bass now so do as you feel.
