Barry White - It's Ecstasy When You Lay Down Next to Me
Kiwi replied to 62P-Bass's topic in General Discussion
Could be Nathan East. He played uncredited on some 70s Barry White albums
I can ask him, or anyone who is going to Bassday could probably do the same. -
Hey folks, Does anyone sync their effects to a midi clock so they can be in time with the rest of the band?
Assuming that you get it working all OK, unless your band can play to a sequencer there's bound to be some slight speeding up or slowing down in tempo (particularly going into the chorus). MIDI synching will make those differences more obvious. Might be better at using a tap tempo button if you have that function in any of your effects? If you hear the tempo is out then give the tap tempo a couple of presses with your foot in time to the tempo and it'll be sorted. The Adrenalinn is a nice bit of kit but for the same money you could have Guitar Rig 3 or 4 on your laptop live including a USB foot controller with a tap tempo function and a whole bunch of effects. I've just installed it and its completely rocked my world. You can do many of the Adrenalinn beat based effects with it as well.

Good looking bunch like you shouldn't feel shy in coming forward.

Just wanted to put a word in for this bit of software. Basically even if you have a Behringer Guitar Link or one of the cheap ripoffs from Hong Kong, it will allow you to turn your laptop into a high powered and super versatile effects unit. Not only that but if you have a clean and comfy set of earphones, you can play along to your MP3 tracks and the amp modelling and eq options will allow you studio quality sound. The bass amp options are very limited (basically an Ampeg clone) but there are loads of screamy, grindy, tappy, wowy, zorky, echoey types of things and...at last...the kind of intuitively easy, logical, graphical user interface that multi effects units have been crying out for since the 80's. I wasn't that impressed with the Ampeg sim, but the Fender Tweed and Bassman type sims were OK with guitar. I found bass was best with no amp sim but using a compressor and the parametric eq yields extremely nice sounding results. Being able to boost down as low as 30Hz delivered really satisfying B string sounds. So this bit of kit has been soley responsible for me getting back into practicing every night and it sounds amazing. My ears never get tired and there's plenty to muck about with in terms of modifiers and such if I get bored. Plus the Kontrol USB foot controller means all I technically would need to do is take the laptop, controller, and a pair of IEMs to a gig. Crazy! I think I've seen the future
you've seen it then?
I have, there's a memorable milk float chase around the curves of Madeline Smith. Call me cynical but I think they were just looking for an excuse to use milk floats.

Nobody does. In fact Alex told me that Ken once refused to take orders from the Bass Gallery because they hadn't sold enough of his instruments in the past. Go figure the business logic behind that one! But it seems clear that he's not that interested in the UK regardless of its potential as a market. You'll have to import from the US, I'm afraid.

Did you dip the transformers to protect the windings and laminations from corrosion? Have you considered doing a recreation of a Fender Super Champ at all?

Would you like to see the predecessor to your amp?
Kiwi replied to wateroftyne's topic in Amps and Cabs
For an old amp, that still sounds remarkably clean. Wonderful! -
Another "my band are a bunch of idiots" threads
I feel like I've just been chastised - but I can't quite see what for........
Me neither, sorry if I made you feel that way though. -
I'm pretty shallow in my musical appreciation generally but there are a few bits and pieces out there which are inspirational. I dunno, I don't think about it that deeply. Music is there to support whatever mood I'm in or want to be in.
Lot to drink last night? .......I hope!!
No, I guess thats the sad thing about trying to stay open minded and avoiding cynicism, huh? -

What if everyone above learned second instruments and formed your own band? What if we did a thread of Basschatters who play second instruments AND are looking for a band? -
Actually I heard James Jamerson used to lay on the floor in the studio!
According to Standing In The Shadows, he recorded "Whats Goin On" horizontal, one of my favourite motown bass lines Sorry that you've had another set back and I hope you find a way through to keep playing. I don't know about others but I've never found playing on a stool to be all that comfortable for long.

Will playing a fretless make me a better fretted player?
Kiwi replied to WonderHorse's topic in General Discussion
I don't think it needs to be a complicated issue. Just get a fretless neck for one of your Fenders (if you have them) and give it a go. If it makes a difference you'll know for yourself. -
Who are they, if you don't mind me asking?
Noone that I know of with a chart topping band at the moment apart from Jimmy but I can't remember what his username is. Although I guess you could count Andrew McKinney/Ian King with JTQ as fairly well known and they've played to thousands. There's also Dave Marks who plays with Rick Parfitt Jnr, Stuart Clayton who tours with Carl Palmer, plus I'm sure some of the other pros (Phil Mann, Mike Brooks, Nick Owen, Jo Nichols, Steve Lawson, Janek Gwisdala) as well as those who have already responded here, must have played to large audiences at one time or another. I think Phil Mulford is a member as well but its been ages since I've seen him post anything. There could be others who I'm not aware of, I guess.
Good to hear he's on the Mika gig. Nick Owen's a top bloke too.
Yeah considering last time we went out for a drink he'd just made the decision to become a touring pro and had stage fright to deal with, I'm just thrilled for him. It took a while for him to get established but he managed to bag a gig backing The Saturdays and now has picked up Mika so I'm really pleased for him. Even if Mika makes him dress up like Two Face. Nick's been on here selling stuff recently as well.
So, anybody been Bass Player for a high profile band. I mean playing in front of 3,000+ fans night on night?
Yes, there are a few members but they tend to be a little busy (touring) so don't post much unless they have gear to sell and they also have tended to be discouraged by people slagging them off. A couple have had it coming, but more often than not I think the crit has been pretty unfair in the past. BTW anyone remember Jimmy Sims from the Bass Centre years ago? He's just started touring with Mika and was on the Letterman show last week. The boy done good. I've also invited Nick Fyffe and Randy Hope-Taylor to drop by and say hi, I know they browse but haven't signed up yet.
