1.
Here is the 'MP', Status Series 2000, with my S2 fretless, I am told this once belonged to Mike Porcaro of Toto. It's in pretty good nick for a bass that's 25 years old.
I'm chuffed about it staying in the BC family. I was making enquiries about it myself until the sale of my Spector 6 fell through. If you ever want to sell, let me know.
2. Welcome to the club Al, lovely plank - I'm particularly interested to see what you make of those dual coil Nordstrands...
3. I think thats Barts rig (Phyrexian). EDIT: Ooop, no, his is the serial number immediately before (#32). Those 8x10 cabs were custom made for the V8 though, thats a real doozy of a rig for anyone wanting a modern, English version of the SVT.
4. I've discovered where all the used Celinders are being traded in Denmark... I'm off to NZ.

I've spent some of this week test driving cars. Looking at buying an Audi S3 because its one of the few 4WD hatches that I can afford which puts out more than 200bhp. There's a bit of turbo lag but once it hits its stride, it doesn't let go of the road without a fight. Should make dealing with the mountains down in Dunedin quite fun.
6.
45 years old... Ashdown ABM gear. Otherwise, I feel your pain. Literally probably. If someone comes up with a great sounding, small, loud rig that isn't stupid expensive I'm having one!!
One of these (with a decent quality 12AX7): Into one of these: Into the 300w Barefaced cabs of your choice? Its not gonna sound like a Bass 400+ though, but it should sound fairly articulate.
7. Well, if they don't actually possess the amp then they won't be able to supply close ups of the transformers or serial number.

I'm off to NZ.

Yeah I was on MSN talking to Ped at the time and didn't even notice it!
9. Interesting, thats the most recent serial number known. Very, very collectable rig and not an unreasonable price so far either.
10. I don't feel qualified to make assumptions, personally. It IS whatever it is.
11. UPDATE: I haven't heard from Victor yet but Marcus has posted this on his Facebook page: "The bus company that we hired the tour bus from has assumed the responsibility for the charge and will have their lawyers argue it. They're confident they'll prevail."
12. Well lets just see what those involved have to say, hmm? The Talkbassers can speculate as much as they like. I've already been in touch with SMV's manager and she's says the coach company has proved to be reliable in the past and that the tachygraph was fine. There are also two drivers on board the coach who sleep in shifts. However she suggested I get in contact with Victor himself which I've done.
13.
What clarification is required? The driver broke the law and was fined appropriately. The police followed standard and required procedure in collecting the fine on the spot.
Clarification on the assertions and speculation being made by people who aren't in possession of all the facts? I'm collecting more facts.
14. I've asked for clarification from people involved about what's gone on.
15. There seems to be a lot of love in that instrument, given the carving. Any chance of some sound clips at all?
16. Hey David, I like the curly maple one. What attracted you to these instruments more than the others which have passed through your hands? Are they keepers?
17. I'm sorry to hear what's happened but at least the police have him. Would it be worth seeking legal advice about bringing a civil case to recover the costs due to his neglicence?
18. The Boogie stuff is very robust but not very portable. You probably have loads of other options out there, if you're willing to do a bit of research.
19. In a word, I'd say probably not. Completely different pickups Different woods Different neck joint...etc. Why do you like your jazz, if your preference is for the sound of your Rick?
20. Why do you need Road Ready cabs specifically? Is it just to match your amp?
21. Ped and I tried them out a while back. Monstrous, raw sound, squarely aimed at metal and rock players. I wish I'd had my V8 back then, it would have been a murderous set up. We thought they were extremely heavy but thats because they use huge magnets in the drivers.
22.
Yeah, I always buy packs of 10 of the Procell ones, they're great. Just bought some from this seller (who's slightly cheaper than the one you linked to), though I've not used them before. I'm sure they'll be fine though! http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...em=160332996870
FWIW, this is what I do also. My sound engineer advised me that using rechargables wasn't a good idea because they have different discharge characteristics to normal batteries (ie. they lose charge very quickly rather than gradually). So I'll always end up being caught out by them on a gig, even if I test before going on stage. He recommended Procels to me and I've never looked back since. I buy them from the cheapest supplier on Ebay usually.
23. Like I said in my first post, graphite necks sell themselves. There's no point in playing one if you prefer the sound of or are used to wooden necks. Anyone critcising a graphite neck for not sounding like a wooden one might as well criticise vodka for not tasting like whiskey... ...and thats even assuming that everyone has the same ideal tone in mind.
24. tapping will be easier on a graphite neck, it'll absorb less energy. Whether it gives you the tone you're looking for it another thing entirely but it might be worth considering the Status Stealth.
25.
I take your point, but don't graphite necks have an inherently brighter and more'zingy' kind of sound to them?
Some do, but it depends on their construction. Generally, the stiffer the fingerboard, the zingier they are. The use of stainless steel frets doesn't help either. Wooden fingerboards are much better IMO.
