1.
I got nothing but compliments re the sound. Kiwi must eq very, very differently to me.
Try fitting a set of Alembic Activators, a set of EMG's or another set of hi-fidelity pickups perhaps one day? It will make the bass even more clear and alive sounding (which is all thanks to the maple construction). The Barts really take the edge off the bass IMO. This was my MVP5 This is the Pentabuzz I still have.
2. i think that might have been covered already in another thread?
3. I used to own one in amber sunburst Plus: Fantastic neck Easy to play Versatile Growly Superb craftsmanship Minus: Bartolini pickups make it sound woolly and sap the midrange a little All maple construction makes the B string a little weak unless you have good pickups fitted The eq really needs a mid-sweep control. The price is a little on the high side, but the used values have gone up considerably in the last 4 years. They used to be around the £800-1000 some years ago but now I've seen 1300 quid being asked for them.
4.
p.s. does anyone know how to embed the youtube videos so they play of the page? I copied and pasted the embedded code from youtube but it only displays the code?
I've edited it for you so it embeds. Take a look by hitting the editing button. Welcome aboard BTW.
5. The neck bolts on my Stingray appear to be M4x45 raised, recessed, countersunk wood screws with a oval philips head if thats of any help?
6. He's being more than a little provocative. He's just picking up on current trends and extrapolating them to an illogical extreme. He hasn't factored in the demand for live music, for a start. He's presumed that there is no demand and the current trends will just continue to the point of collapse. If anything the music industry is being reclaimed by musicians through the use of ever cheaper recording technology. The record companies and distributors no longer guard access to the music purchasing public! There will still be a demand for recorded music and people will still want to see the artists live too. There will be more artists to choose from if anything - good, bad and a bit crap. But thanks to the internet, word of mouth will increasingly become be the way of marketing. Take Sharay Reed for example - a couple of youtube clips and people are picking up on his playing.
7. if its pointing at my ears, I'll stand within range of it. I can always run away and come back if the stage is big enough. Two degrees of tilt isn't going to make a lot of difference, if the stage is bigger then I'll take two and stack one on the other.
8.
I'm pretty sure there's a way to go but it's going to take weeks to calm back down.
or a bumper pack of andrex? Nice looking body
9. Mine's in my sig. Its been a great motor, absolutely trouble free and overtaking is a bit of a hoot. Ped and I managed to get a serious amount of kit in the back of it for the last SE Bass Bash, something like 7 basses in cases, plus stands and a half stack rig.
10. so THATS where the song came from. I haven't heard it in years but I remember it being played often on TV when I was younger...that and Sky's Toccata in Dm.
11. Thanks for that. I'll keep an eye out for them in the future.
12.
One of my guitarists has similar problems with a Fender Strat when playing under fluorescent lights. Cheers Mark
I've never heard of lights causing squealing before - not saying it wouldn't happen but typically I've experienced it as 60 cycle hum though. I initially thought the cause might be microphonic pickups and high gain settings.
13.
ok another question if anyone can help.what emg jazz pick ups do i need for my jazz bass but its now passive many thankls ian
Going back to your original post, the EMG pickups I'm aware of are active and don't need a separate preamp. If you get active pickups and add a preamp you'll end up with an additional stage of gain which will make the bass run "hot" unless you can turn the gain down on the additional preamp (so get one with a gain trimpot if you need the extra tonal control). I don't personally know anything about "passive" EMG pickups. I wasn't aware they made any.
14. any pics and dimensions for the rack?
15.
If you're near Hitchen - pop in and have a noodle?
a pop noodle. AHAHAH HA HAHA HAHAHHA AHAHAHAHAHA hahahhahahhahHAHAhhah
16. hey Howard, are there any dead spots on the neck? Is the bass capable of being set up so that its impossible to slide a pound coin cleanly under the strings at any point along the fingerboard?
17.
Failing that, just learn blues scales.
I think I'd consider myself living proof that this approach has flaws.
18. I like the look of these. The degree of tilt on those would be great for small stages.
19.
if there's one trait that predicts performance, it's confidence, pure and simple.
Pretty much a guide to life right there as I'm sure you'll agree Al. If anyone wants to be successful at any almost anything confidence and experience is the key. To do stuff when then don't have the confidence requires bravery and the ability to distinguish between actual and imagined risks. So...smell the fear then do it anyway.
20. if you can be more specific about what kind of EMG pickups you want to put in the bass, perhaps it might be possible for people to be clearer on how they think they can help you?
21. sounds like a cause for celebration to me!
22.
Cheers mate!! And all the Kiwis I've met have been very cool dudes....if somewhat crazy!!
I'm english really, just grew up there...shhh, it'll be our secret.
