1. bugger, I'm too far out of town to make it. She didn't come on until 10:45pm at the last gig I went to and she got visibly narked about the fact that half the audience left around midnight. I don't think anyone had told her about the underground.
2. I still think the preamps need dual inputs. (My Shuttle 6.0 was plenty loud enough for Leeds Town Hall, BTW and I'm playing one bass now at gigs anyway.)
3. Given Zavvi in Peterborough are having a sale, I've snagged a couple of Hed Kandi Twisted Disco complilations.
4.
Is yours the same as this one?
No, mine doesn't have the separate zippered compartments. It just has a foam separator. Although mine is blue, its more like this: http://www.bassexchange.com/catalog/produc...?products_id=93 I was told it was made by Levys but maybe it wasn't...
5. I think that finish is achieved by spraying a stain over the wood and sanding it back. Jens has a real eye for dramatic impact though.
6.
I once replaced myself in a band, although it was never as good as when I was in it first time around
Did you find it intimidating having to fill your own shoes?
7.
Where did you pick up your Levy's? The Bass Gallery told me they couldn't get them in (even though they're on their website?)
I got it from Eubassix I think.
8.
Who? Me? Thats not what you said when you erroneously accused me of undermining sales threads!
Take it up with me via PM, you obviously have an axe to grind and this thread is not the place for you to do it.
9. Update: Spoke to Jon today. The finishing is complete, the hardware, pickups and preamps have been installed. He just needs to sort the backplates out and give the bass a set up. Reckons the bass might be ready to pickup in a couple of weeks...maybe.
10.
I'm also not sure if it's appropriate to pass a negative opinion on the merits of a piece of gear that a basschatter is trying to sell.
Obviously you attribute more influence to my opinion than I do. I didn't mean for it to be malicious so I apologise to jhsteel. Hutton, how about you spend as much effort openly criticising other members who make gratuitiously sexist or antagonistic posts for example? Have another bump jhsteel BTW, hope it sells soon. I actually looked at my rig over the weekend and started wondering whether I could do with another one...
11.
LOL, hope you didn't find out it was your old band by reading this thread
I did but thats OK. Im still in touch with them now and then. They're based up around Ruislip and are nice people. Whoever joins them will have a lot of fun, I'm sure. Ear plugs are essential if you're standing next to Nige their drummer though .
12. My band's drummer has decided he wants a change from playing in a function band and has decided to leave so I'm putting a feeler out to see if any Basschatters know someone who might be interested. Our band has loads of gigs lined up including a few in France at a music festival in the Summer and it looks like we might be back out to Dubai next New Years too. We're also developing our own fan base and will be booking the Islington Carling Academy for our second public performance in Easter after the first one was sold out in the matter of a few hours. The gigs are a lot of fun and there's a family type vibe to the group now we've gotten over band agreement differences. Drop me a PM if you know someone based in London or close outskirts and I'll forward a link to the band site and contact details so we can set up a meeting. Ideally we'd like someone friendly and reliable with professional experience who can make the band their main musical priority. Musically, as a bass player I'm looking for someone who can play with a click track if requested, can trigger samples and is comfortable emulating the exact feels on the covers we play.
13. The Levy's bag I have does the trick. I can fit the Shuttle inside its gig bag inside the pocket of the Levy bag!
14. I have swapped out the tone pump in my Euro 6 for a East U Retro. The sound of the instrument hasn't changed significantly (maybe more headroom and presence) but the sweep mid control gives me a lot more control.
15. I'm going to start planning my own lightweight wedge speaker cab at some point. It's not going to be the most technically efficient and I don't even know what its going to sound like. But I need one for small stages and noone I've approached so far is prepared to build one. Would any owners of a GK 1x15 RBH cab or combo mind sending me the dimensions? I can send you a jpg of a sketch with specific measurements to annotate. many thanks in advance.
16. blimey, if I had a spector 5 already, I'd have your arm off.
17.
if i recall the guy whos company make them for Status died, and the headless tuners have been in short supply for a while (I dont think Status will sell them on their own now). ABM make the tuners but i can only see silver on their web site. http://www.abmmueller.de/index2.html?headless_units.html
The bloke who owned ABM died, but they're still in business after a bit of a review period. Rob told me he redesigned the ABM unit and I understand he gets these Status tuners manufactered in the far east and shipped direct.
18. its a black art. there are probably quite a few different ways to achieve it by balancing the various tonal characters of materials, pickups, construction, hardware, electronics etc. Usually it starts with the wood and either a choice of species or a combination of species that gives rise to a prominent mid-peak somewhere between 250 and 600 Hz. the reason why its a black art is because wood is such an inconsistent material so for a manufacturer to produce consistently growly instruments is a bit of an accomplishment.
19. is it just me or does it look like Anthony Jackson has tiny hands?
20.
The were a lot of quality issues between CLF (Leo Fender's company) and Musicman where MM wasn't happy with what CLF were producing, this ultimately led Leo to give MM the Spanish Archer and start G&L in 1980 or thereabouts. Later ones were made by Grover Jackson's company using mainly left over CLF parts until Ernie Ball bought the company. Post-EB basses have been very consistent so unless there is a specific feature you want such as the Flea bridge or string mutes, there is little to choose between them - oh yeah, they got rid of those hellish flat cut pickup poles that scraped your fingers in favour of the bevelled ones. There have been various changes made to the EQ, most noticably going from the original 2eq to 3eq.
Leo was disappointed with how badly the Stingray guitars were selling and blamed Musicman for that. It has been suggested that he deliberately sabotaged the bass necks that CLF were sub contracted to make for Musicman, after the guitar was dropped from the range, by shipping them with un-anchored truss rods (essentially useless). There were also other supply issues which led to Musicman approaching a number of lesser known luthiers (including Wayne Charvel) to augment the production of bodies. Towards the eventual sale of Musicman to Ernie Ball, the bodies for the basses could have been made from ash, alder, poplar or even (in a couple of cases) mahogany! They were literally chucking instruments together and getting them out the door. There may well be some great basses from that 82-85 era but generally quality control was more than a little lax. IMO, basses from the late 80's are the best value. An 87 or 88 Stingray is better designed, with tighter and more stable neck joint, more consistent woods and finishes. Ernie Ball had something to prove in terms of the branding so the redesign and manufacture was way above the quality of the early 80's instruments.
21.
It'd be easy to implement mathewsanchez's idea through google maps. The forum software shouldn't need modifying at all.
Well I'll leave you and Phatmonkey to sort it out then. Cheers!
