Sade

The one from Live Aid. The sound engineer should hung drawn and quartered. *WARNING* It was a cold day so you might need safety goggles before watching.

Sade

Sade is one of those rare ladies who start off jaw droppingly gorgeous, come across as intelligent yet grounded in interviews and 20-odd years later she hasn't aged either... SIGH
4. oh, is that the sound of interest rates dropping?
5.
I love you just the way you are. Was at a wedding featuring two old mates earlier today so i am little tired and emotional. A Bass Chat book might be an idea, along the lines of the Bass Player book maybe
lol, awwww you ol' softie!
6. You know what? Although you're effectively promoting one of the basses you've made, I LOVE the sound of that fretless in your myspace page. Maple and purple heart in the neck? HMMMMMMM. OK you've seduced me for one instrument. Be gentle.
7.
Just pointing out that drthirkenstein is quantifiably wrong about low frequency sound pressure levels attainable from certain lightweight neo magnet speaker cabinets - my own design is an obvious example for which I know the precise performance and am 100% certain that you cannot buy any other bass guitar cabinet of similar size (not weight!) which can produce as much LF SPL. If he said he didn't like the sound of them then fair enough! Alex
Yeah but because you made specific reference to your product its a plug too. Tut.
8.
I think a ban on people who think there should be a ban on cat pics should be implemented, punishable by Sandy Toksvig in a leotard.
Mike, you say that like Sandy Toksvig is a bad thing.
9. lol, go on then, 'ave it.
10. With a single input and FET/Tube channel switching I'm not interested. That may be what guitarists like but it's probably not what most bass players really need. If it was 2 independent channels with two inputs and went to 2 ohms I would be VERY interested.
11. not if I make him an offer son.
12. Judging by the photo, your other half is a bit of a looker too. Well done on both fronts, son.
13. not so long ago you could pick one up for about £250, if they're selling for £500 thats a hell of an investment!
14. Its all really interesting stuff guys! Thanks for the inputs so far. I hope it keeps coming.
15. Just so everyone is aware, the problems with the poll before were because the poll didn't let you answer only one question and then vote. Everyone has to answer all three questions before posting their vote. Sorry for the inconvenience, but I didn't realise this so I've added null categories to the last two questions as well.
16. Ped and I have been blatting back and forth ideas for how to develop the forum for quite a while now. The dilemna for us is that whatever we do, we would like the site to continue to grow. However, with the number of forums and the amount of opportunity there is for making the site more useful and easier, the off-the-shelf forum software becomes a little limiting because its not designed to be tailored much. It's designed for ease of management. It's possible we could potentially look at developing bespoke forum software if there was a way to tailor the site more specifically for the way in which its used by the members. However, obviously before any of this stuff is considered feasible, we need to test our assumptions about what would be valued by members and whether its worth doing it anyway. I know some of you will think 'whats wrong with the forum the way it is now'. Fair enough, thats why I've put a poll together. The core areas of interest that Ped and I see the site having for everyone are (in no particular order) 1) Socialising 2) Information 3) Promotion (Have I missed anything out?) There are some parts of the forum, such as the Off Topic that appears to fill the social networking side of things. Its possible, for example, that we could look at enhancing the site so that it had some features similar to Facebook/Myspace. Perhaps each member could be offered a more sophisticated profile page with enhanced features eg. media streaming, status updates from friends, photo album, band pages etc. There are some parts of the forum such as the Affiliates forum that caters for the promotional side of things, which we could potentially turn into more of a shop front. Similar to some of the online retailers such as Thomann. This would be contained under a completely separate section but it would be relatively easy to track orders etc. It would offer any members with commercial interests, but not enough expertise or time to set up their own web-based shop front, a way of getting a web presence for their products. In terms of information, the wiki is consistently underutilised by members but still provides a potentially valuable repository of collected wisdom. It would be nice to integrate that more successfully within the forum. OK. The reality is that, if this were to go ahead, unless we have a member within the community who would be prepared to help us develop the site for low upfront cost, then obviously someone is going to want to be paid for their time in programming new forum software. So the $64.000 questions are would you all, as members, be prepared to pay a yearly subscription for enhanced usefulness? If you didn't want to pay for it but still wanted the features, would you be prepared to tolerate additional advertising? There is the potential for us to approach a company I know of who would offer to cover the development costs in exchange for a share of the promotional revenue (I guess its a bit like a record company deal). NB: Just to make it clear - THERE ARE NO DEFINITE PLANS TO CHANGE THE FORUM. We just want to put out a feeler to see what people think about the potential on offer.

hi

welcome mate, show us ya growler?
18. I'd better check my email box as well, looks like he sent a flurry out this evening. EDIT: nope I feel rejected.

F-Bass BN5

all the F-basses I've tried have sounded even better than they've looked.
20.
Well, not my opinon...but the Opinion of Spectors company and its associates, enough to warrent legal terms and thus the said deal,as reported in Bassplayer magazine, sometime in the 90s..If I recall correctly its was Spectors daughter that broke the news of the deal....the likeness was a little too close iirc.
OK, I'm interested to know why they didn't press ahead with legal action. Maybe they didn't register the body shape as a trademark outside the US perhaps. Still, a lot of it goes on.
21. Still waiting for responses to my PM's about postage costs.
22. I'm still waiting for a response from you Matt.
23. OK Heroine Diaries has gone. Mrs Tinman is getting me the postage for the Croc diaries but I've had no postage yet from anyone else. And in particular no response to repeated PMs I've sent to Overwater#1. I've wrapped all this stuff up in bubblewrap and packing paper order to get postage costs and that took the best part of an afternoon.
24.
CK, What is it about Steinies? I'm attracted to 'em like a moth to a naked bulb.....
For a moment there Bob I thought you were talking about Steinlager. They're still very novel I think and a unique combination of radical features and practicality. (Although obviously the lack of a body was a problem for some but thats because size priorities had been placed marginally ahead of comfort. Although this was later addressed with the M-series, I think the M-Series might have actually been a better introduction model). I'd suggest this bass is a master piece of industrial design and deserves to be considered up there with the best.
25.
And ,If I recall, was threatend with legal action, because the license was not renewed. And had to again be re-renewed when Spector regained the rights to his company and patents.
Indeed, so lets be clear that technically its not stolen at all because there are sufficient differences between the shapes. It's just that in your opinion the shape is stolen. I don't think you don't make that clarification often enough in what you post. Besides which lets not forget Fender clones, Behringer, Status clones, Pangborn borrowing the Jaydee shape which was borrowed from the Alembic Series 1/2, then Alembic used the Fender Dual Showman preamp design which was borrowed in turn by Trace Elliot and then Hartke, blah blah blah.
