1.
Me too please. Oh man, you know how much I covet that beautiful fretted 5... oh god, if I could even remotely afford it, I'd take it in a heartbeat...
I do mate and nothing would make me happier than to pass the fretted 5 on to you.
2. absolutely amazing cabs, good luck with the sale.
3. Let just say as a Smith owner/player for the last 5 years I expect to be given the benefit of any doubt over my motives for posting there. I'll PM you with the details.
4. In case anyone missed the sub-heading, both are now: After a unfair and insulting accusation of product placement by Ken Smith on his forum last night when I was trying to be helpful to other members, I've decided I no longer want to be associated with Smith basses or Ken Smith. Besides which the money would be useful right now. So up for sale are my matching fretted and fretless BSR5GN basses: 2002 Smith BSR5GN I bought this from Bob at the Bass Palace and its been my main gigging instrument for the last 5 years. There are a few very small barely visible and stone chip sized indentations mainly as a result of normal wear and tear and the finish being so soft. The bass features a 5 piece laminated neck of bubinga and maple with mahogany wings and 5A quilted maple facings with an ebony fingerboard. The bass is completely stock, has been well looked after and has just been fitted with a brand new set of Elixir strings. Price is £1800 and includes a Smith hard case, a Smith strap and allen keys plus any other case candy I can find. 2005 Smith BSR5GN fretless I bought this from Evan at Bass NW in 2005 and its been my main fretless. There is virtually no wear or marks and the bass has been well looked after. The instrument is completely stock and features a 3 band eq with series/parallel switches as an extra option. The bass features a 5 piece laminated neck of bubinga and maple with flame maple wings and walnut top with an unlined ebony fingerboard. Price is £1900 because fretless basses are slightly less common and includes a Smith hard case, a Smith strap and allen keys plus any other case candy I can find. Both instruments play like butter and have that typical Smith scoop with sweet treble and lots of warmth and growl. Goes without saying that they will be missed. T&C's They will be available through this forum for the next 2 weeks and then I will be taking them to the Gallery for sale on consignment. The price of them will obviously increase to account for the Gallery's 15% commission. Shipping is likely to be around £25 per bass but I would prefer to meet if possible for petrol money. Feel free to PM me with questions or for more pics. No offers thanks because I know these basses WILL sell at these prices. Re: trades, I'm only interested in a headless Status Stealth 5 string or Series 2000 5 string or a Yamaha BBNEII + cash adjustment.
5.
Still getting lots of earnest replies to the pointless questions. Irony is truely lost
You really believe that? Very ironic if you do.
6.
i like all of them, except the one with red and green leds, dont ask why???
Hmmm, this could just be a shot in the dark, but maybe its something to do with the LEDs? I'm still waiting to see the 5 string version.
7. If you shout loud enough, he might here you.
8. duly shifted, thanks
9.
Hey mate, its not just London who are like that. I've had it in New York and Bangkok as well.
Me too. I went into three shops in Bangkok and they wouldn't even let me touch the Stingray 5's! I'm like WTF? Just put them in the back and show pictures on the walls if you're going to be that arsey.
10. Yeah I had a look at them too when I was doing my search, but they didn't have an adaptor that put out 2A.

Colours!

Nothing beats a nice bit of exhibition grade quilted maple, feathered crotch walnut or flamed redwood. So long as the grain pattern is nice and bold.
12. I know the preshape doesn't defeat the graphic eq in the series 6 amps, you can have both on together if you wish.
13. I bought a few off Ebay recently from this seller for a couple of hard drives I have. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/AC-110V-240V-Adapter...p3286.m63.l1177 So far they're pretty good and have been staying nice and cool. Plus they work off 240 or 120v. You will need to make sure the plug fits your pedals however but even if it doesn't you could always rig an adaptor cable up to convert between plug sizes if you're handy with a soldering iron. The plugs on the ones I bought (as shown) are about 5.5mm. Previous adaptors from Maplins just kept getting over heated and burning out. I was fed up with replacing them.
14. 1) Fretless - slower attack, total freedom in your intonation and note choice (ie. its possible to play a quarter tone passing note between two notes a semi tone apart) Headless - better balance, (especially beneficial for extended range basses) and if you have a tremolo, better tuning stability. 2) Never as loud as a guitar 3) Compare an NS CR5 cello (34" scale) to a NS CR5 electric upright bass (41" scale) if you ever get the chance. Generally, the longer the scale the deeper the instrument sounds. 4) Only if they have a Ferrari decal and are low to the ground 5) Disturbed by your avatar.
15. I still think the amp is at fault.
16.
Or register them and sell basses
They might have the last laugh if they've registered the bass cellar as a trademark.
17. it would be quite easy to purchase those domain names and turn them into a record of disgruntled customer experiences...
18. I'd go for the jap one and give it 3-6 months. Ultimately there's no accounting for taste but with instruments that have been built to a budget you can never tell whether the've skimped on the wood (which isn't upgradable) or any other bits, until you've tried the bass out.
19. hiya Kevin, so you took over the bass chair from Pino with Paul Young? What made you retire eventually?
20. Bugger, I couldnt make it. I had a job interview (yes, on a Sunday). Would have been good to catch up with Herbie and Lawrie.
21. Personally I would tend to go for any bass in that price range with a graphite reinforced neck. There aren't that many around TBH, but a Status Groove might fit the bill at £200-350 and then whack a nice, thick, compound radiussed, ebony fingerboard on it to make the neck even stiffer. You could look at all sorts of offerings from Yamaha, Fender, Peavey, Ibanez etc as well. All decent enough basses but that graphite reinforced neck will help reduce deadspots (but not guarantee to remove them completely unfortunatey ).
22. For me, finding the space. If everyone in the band gives each other space, it makes things sound so much tighter and more meaningful.
23.
Played a gig on saturday night (originals band) and realised at the end that I only use the G string in 1 song (our set is only 8 songs), and use it a grand total of 14 times in that song. I'm thinking of getting a 3.
A custom built one? It would be a lot easier to play chords.

NEW Roland Vbass

I guess that could be so you don't have to bend down in order to use the infra red D beam. You still have to stop playing to wave your hand in front of it though so probably only good for the climatic endings of songs. Oh no, hang on, you can wave the neck of the bass over it instead.
25. I don't know about you but if I was going to pay that much for a bass, it would need to be my main bass that I gigged every week... ...but if you're earning enough or have the right amount saved then go for it. If not then maybe start saving, this probably won't be the last Jerzy you encounter. Patience is often a cheaper alternative.
