1.
Theres only one other proper clip of Sharay Reed: Some more from the same gig: Thats Maurice Fitzgerald on bass.
Thanks for that!
2.
I'm struggling with this one. It reads like sarcasm, but it is not clear to whom you are being sarcastic. David
Its not sarcasm, its just a dry sense of humour. See that ? It means don't take it seriously. You heard of "jazz cigarettes"? Well I was just having fun with the idea of a "jazz environment". Stand at ease, soldier.
3. and another of 'peanut'
4. Good grief Ben.
5. Great stuff Gwil, I'm very fond of the F-basses too. Very growly and versatile and I was gassing like mad for Bassjamms when he had it for sale. I haven't been quite as impressed with the Ibanez Gary Willis myself but people do rave over them.
6. Skip 30 seconds in and see it through to the end. Some amazing stuff and it looks so effortless I want to be sick.
7. Perceptive comment Sir Robin I took a 6 string body and mated it to a 5 string neck as I find most modern basses are too cramped for me and people seem to get around on 70's jazz basses ok which are close enough... ...but in any case, the body shape can accommodate removing additional width pretty easily. Dan, 6 strings aren't going to be possible for the first 10 unfortunately. They may be possible afterwards on a batch order basis.
8.
The bass has been gigged for the past two years, in a jazz environment, so has been reasonably well looked after.
Nnnnnnnice. I'd love to live in a jazz environment, I'd probably get out of bed an hour before I went to sleep, eat breakfast through my arse and go to work in an office for a holiday. I hope the bass was exposed to less demanding surroundings?
9. so how much do you think your cabs are worth then?
10. best bet Bob is to get a custom laminated maple neck made with a nice, thick ebony fingerboard and graphite reinforcing. With that fingerboard and sufficiently rigid maple, you would be hard pressed to tell the difference for anything but slap.
11. headless feel better, mate
12. That is one hell of a fascinating article! There's a bit of information here too.
13. In addition to Red's post, Simon can make necks using molds or the lay on method over a wooden or epoxy foam core. For one off necks, the lay on method is probably better. If you can't give him a core to use as a master then he will need to produce one for you.
14. I had one on my jaydee jazz bass. It was a bit of a disappointment as it wasn't very stiff and kept flexing with temperature changes, despite having a truss rod. I mated it to a swamp ash body which was also a big mistake as the combination didn't make for a particularly warm sounding instrument. You could try dropping a line to Fibresonixx or Simon Farmer at GUS Guitars as well. You will be looking at about 500 quid for a custom neck.
15. Here's a quick sketch I did this afternoon of what I hope the finished bass will look like:
16. Zero frets are supposed to solve set up issues with setting nut height.
17. I like the tone of Guild Pilot basses, they're amazing value second hand. I can't comment on the quality of the Dearmond basses though. All the Washburn T basses I've heard sound a bit boxy to me.

Spamming attacks

That would work if everyone had a fixed IP address. However many ISP's provide dynamic IP addresses meaning a subscriber is assigned a new IP whenever they turn on their modem and connect. So for a number of members living in the same neighbourhood (such as Northampton) and connected to the same Internet Provider (such as NTL) banning on IP would potentially block any members who were assigned that IP address. Obviously we don't want to block the IP addresses of members who haven't been involved in spamming but live in the same locality. Also it would be quite easy for a spammer to disconnect and reconnect in order to be assigned an IP that isn't blocked. Besides which these particular spammers have routed through overseas servers so even if we did ban on the basis of IP number, the spammers could simply select another unbanned server through which to route their connection. I personally suspected the spammers were Russian in origin. Anyway, no more problems since the forum was patched so hopefully this will be the end of it.
19.
They are 800watts program at 8 ohm.
If AlexClaber sees you typing that, you'll be sorry. +1 on the EBS Neo212. Its my only cab, super sensitive so you can use it with 100w heads as well as 600w heads. Just wish the bracing inside it was a little sturdier so it didn't vibrate as much.
20.
I happened to be chatting in a fairly polite manner to one of the guys behind the counter - discussing said Aria, mentioned that I have a number of Arias in my posession; chap asks me how many basses I've got, he is told current number! Other ruder staff member then passes comment!
OK, fair enough. FWIW I'm deliberately a bit coy about the number I own because even at 10 I get funny looks from people if I tell them!
21. Nick, do you normally mention to total strangers that you own 57 basses?
22. I've looked at his site often and wondered about making the Boxer guitar combo. He's only 20mins drive from me and while I have the time I should really be taking advantage of it... ...what was he like to work with?
23. There's some pretty god playing here from someone we all know. EDIT: Oops was that a freudian or a typo?
24.
That is soooo damn funky. I just had to grab a bass and start playing along. Thanks for the linkage. Do you have any more stuff by him?
I've been looking but haven't found anything yet. If I do find more stuff, I'll post it on the forum.
25.
Sorry Kiwi, thought I had done a mix of both. Was trying to be as "this is only my opinion and experience" and non confrontational as possible. Slap on the wrist accepted.
no slap on the wrist needed, I'm glad the discussion is happening. Just would prefer the potential for confrontation is reduced. FWIW, just so people don't read into my motives, I'm not Christian by any means and I've recently lost a close friend of 20 years who became very religious because I hold fairly strong opinions myself but as hatori says, its mostly about human nature. I've met inspirational christians and I've met complete right wing baptist zealots. Regardless of the belief system it comes down to interpretation at the end of the day. I see nothing wrong with wanting to be nice to people even if I don't share their beliefs and for me, regardless of the beliefs held, that's where its at. Same for bass playing. Its all about the person and what inspires them to push themselves.
