1. I don't realistically think I'm going to be able to post all 125!! LOL I'll probably post "edited highlights" and the remainder will be in an album or two which I can post a public link to here.
 2. Right, first tranche of photos:
 3.
Really good day thanks; good to meet loads of nice people and try loads of different basses. Hats off to Nik (silverfoxnik) and Martin (Merton) for organising it all, the day went really quickly, which is a good sign. Highlights included playing Ped's Vigier (action so low that it virtually plays itself)
I've played it a number of times over the years and its still a standard setting instrument. I don't know of anyone yet who hasn't been impressed by it. Have to say I thought we had a really good crowd there today, great vibe and a great day out. Thanks again to Nik and Merton for organising, I hope a decent wedge went to charity at the end of it. Photos are being uploaded onto Photoobucket at the mo and I'll post a whole load of links when they've finished uploading. There were about 125 pics on my camera! Thanks to Sylas too for taking most of them!
 4. so are you asking if you could make your own neck from a headed neck? I think the only person who could answer that is you, depending on how confident you are in your woodworking skills perhaps?
 5.
By the way, if anyone has a decent digital camera to take some photos with tomorrow, it'd be a real help..
I'll bring one, if anyone would like to borrow it let me know.
 6.
I have the spotlights ready, plus the Pearl and Dean theme
ok, I will make sure Ped has his beard trimmed and under control. His cleavage might be another matter though.
 7.
Ooooh, fight! Is the V8 still coming?
Yes Ped and I are arriving together so expect a dramatic entrance consisting of ball gowns, tiaras, stair cases and paparazzi. Its such a hard life being celebrities.
 8. lets do a BFM vs Claber shoot out using my GB Shuttle.
 9.
but my ray'd sound good thru it to, right? God I want a Trace V8...but I'm not allowed
Stingray + valve amp = make big sexy time with your ears.
 10. I'm going to add that this amp is pretty good as an all rounder, mine was gigged for most of the Spring. But with a Spector it absolutely kicks ass. One of those magical bass+amp combinations. Might work quite nicely for a Status as well given it and the Spector share a lot in common characterwise.
 11. ooer *steadies self* Good grief, a Strategy 400 and another V8 in the same week... ...have a bump. This is one of three owned by forum members.
 12. For what its worth, every HS stingray is actually HSS when you take the scratch plate off. There's an extra single coil under the scratch plate which is normally used as a hum canceller for the single coil.
 13. Abe does it for me, I just like the guys approach and the way he fits incredible technique into the song so musically.
 14.
So a taller speaker with better off-axis response (midrange driver) and a small degree of tilt will be just as effective at getting the midrange to your ears but with fewer problems from directing so much sound at the ceiling.
I couldn't say until I'd tried one, in principal it might work but I couldn't say for sure. Principles don't actually take into account the sound of a drummers cymbals, having to compete with a vocal monitor being pointed directly at ones ears for most of the performance or having a sound man who turns up the sub bass to cater for room acoustics at one venue and turns it down at another. The GK wedge worked really well.
Wattage is not a measure of loudness!
But it might sound loud to him regardless of the wattage.
 15.
There may be a good reason why this would not work, but could you not feasibly have an angled stand made for a given cabinet to yield your preferred angle? Something that would ensure the amp was secure at whatever angle, e.g. a metal frame/brace, wooden frame with a right angle cut into it etc. I'm sure I'd seen someone with a GK combo and extension speaker together with an angled stand for both to direct their cones more at his eardrums so I'm sure such things already exist, but the wooden block/frame idea would be a lot cheaper. Mark
Sure and its a good suggestion, but its another bit of kit I have to carry if i did go that route.
 16.
CK, what sort of angle would you be after in order to get the cab pointing at your ears? w.r.t. floor...
I was OK with the GK wedge combo - whatever angle that was? 30 degrees?
 17. from the looks of things the wedgehorn 10 seemed to fit the bill (*ahem*) better but what are the dimensions? I can compare it to my EBS 212.
 18.
I noticed yesterday that the new Eden nemesis combos are wedge shaped. Off-topic I know, but not the most off topic thing I noticed yesterday.
I'd prefer to keep the Genz Benz head to be honest. Maybe the BFM wedge is worth a look. Might have to find a friendly joiner to knock it up I guess, given I live in a flat.
 19.
Saxophones, mics and drum kits are just magnets for all sorts of idiots of all ages, especially drunk young men at posh weddings where they think that because the B&G have hired you, the band can therefore considered "staff" and they can do what they like....
In my experience, its generally been blue collar crowds mainly attracted to the mics and the congas. We had one twat last week who came up while the percussionist was actually playing mid song and he started playing the congas as well (although that instance wasn't a blue collar gig). They all start off on their best behaviour but once they get a bit of booze in them, their social judgement goes out the window. We've had kids on the drum kit in the past as well but an uncle or something was there supervising them. The drummer is normally a fairly placid chap so tolerated it well.
 20. This is a bit insane but Phil_the_bassist has offered me the use of two extra bass stands. So potentially I could be bringing the following: Spector 6 Smith 5 Smith 5 fretless Celinder P Celinder J MM Stingray First time I haven't bought any graphite necked instruments Trace V8, GB Shuttle 6 and EBS Neo212 still coming.
