2. Oop looks like GAS struck Taystie baaaaad?
3.
Looks as though it might have had newer pickups fitted to it at some stage?
Well spotted Sir or have you been reading the Alembic forum? The ceramic magnets in the old pickups had apparently weakened to the point where it made sense to get them replaced.
4.
So, any requests for the next project?
How about a Barefaced Alien active cab?
5.
Nice bass, if only I had the cash or a Smith I didnt want. Bumptastic!
A Smith ma'am? Don't be a stranger!

8.
One day Kiwi, one day ill have that amp!
If you start saving now then mate, who knows?
9. I'll be using one on top of an Ashdown ABM810 at our New Years gig!
10. oh blimey another one I can contribute to... I might try and get DrPepperUK back and see if he can post some of his amps. I believe he's still got a hexavalve...
11. I love the use of suspended chords and inversions. I have a feeling that one will eventually make its way onto a few bass playing syllabuses.
12.
You're getting some nice gigs there Kiwi!
Yeah mate, the best is coming up though. A gig for Tony and Cherie Blair's hairdresser in mid-Sept at his Civil Partnership ceremony, and we'll be sharing the stage with Danny-from-McFly and Barbara I-Know-Him-So-Well Dickinson. We'll be trying to get President Blair on stage with us if we can. We've hit the big time now. lol Bassninja - we did a gig in Bosham 6 weeks ago on the shore front at a wedding. Next week is Sevenoaks I think and then its a well earned overseas holiday for me, considering the otherwise fairly sh*t year I've had on the job front.
13.
I did actually have a contact number for Ashley and actually spoke to him on the phone around 10 years ago - Ian Middleton and I set up a tribute website for the basses and I mentioned this to Ashley and he was very concerned by this as he thought we were trying to make money out of him!!!! I mentioned that the site was not in any way shape or form a money making venture and was simply a place to look at pictures and find out more about the range, a kind of resource page in actual fact. He calmed down a bit and then became quite touched that we'd done this! I no longer have his number but I'm sure contacting Gibson might be an idea. There was a rumour some time ago that he was going to resurrect Pangborn but as yet, I've not heard anything else! Be great if he did - they really are special basses!
I heard back from Gibson today re: Ashley. Apparently there is noone by the name of Ashley Pangborn working for them at the moment. However they did offer to ask around and see if anyone knew of him and has some contact details.
14.
If the top is in the first half they certainly do
Ah well, just for the sake of any doubt ... I hope to use it on the TV spot that my band *might* be doing in October. But its up to Jon to finish it in time.
15.
How do you mean? From what it looks the whole neck curves to the right after the 5th fret.
Does the curve look consistent on both sides of the neck when you sight down it? Is the curve (such as it is) a smooth one?
16. If you sight down the neck across the top of the frets, can you see any variation in how the frets line up with one another? Is the neck warped? If so, it might be covered by a guarantee.
17. Out of pure curiosity more than serious interest, are you offering cash adjustment if you find the right Smith? FWIW, Mark King sold his a while ago.
18. I came so close to buying one of Geezers jaydee prototypes a few years back. But my conscience got the better of me.
19. I would sight down the length of the neck at an angle that allows you to compare how parallel the frets are to one another and check the 9th fret to see if its slightly raised. If it is, a gentle tap with a hammer through a piece of wood offcut might settle the fret into place. Truss rods are great for overall relief but they can be like a hammer to crack a walnut if the problem is just one fret that is standing proud.
20. We played a marquee in Amberley Castle, near Arundel. A good test of the satnav this time, lots of twisty B roads and sudden changes in direction at junctions. I also had Borat's voice guiding me so there was lots of "et thee rounnnnd. About tek thee second exit. Pliz." and at the end of the journey he told me I drove like I had been drinking fermented wolf urine. Sheesh, everyone's a critic! Anyway, the venue was quite stunning, the gardens were encased by a series of elegantly decrepid castle walls into which some more recent facility buildings had been set. The marquee was acoustically dead so we all had no problems with hearing ourselves. The stage was just about big enough width ways and the venue staff seemed very well organised. We had some lasagne for dinner which was very nice and when we started the first of three sets, the punters were up and dancing after the second song and they stayed on the dance floor for the whole night. Job done! There's lovely.
21. Barkgain! Hope this doesn't hang around for long!
22. Thats sad news indeed, would you be kind enough to pass on the sympathies and best wishes from Basschat to his friends and family? I don't believe I met him but I hope he passed away peacefully and surrounded by loved ones.
23.
I don't mean to sound rude or patronising but if you are in London just go to the Bass Gallery!!!!!!! I have dealt with Alex there for yars (including when he was back in Wapping) and their service is fantastic! Admittedly their range can be limited at times but at least they will make you feel welcome
Their range isn't quite so limited since they expanded the shop but they've still managed to pack it wall to wall and floor to ceiling with stock, even with more floor area! I'll put a shout in for one shop where I had great service on Denmark Street and that was the London PA centre. They sorted me out by making me a speakon cable on the spot when I was in a fix for a gig. Funny chaps too!
24. for me: the body - I guess because its the most visually dominant element. Its gotta have sensual curves. Spectors, Smiths, Shukers, Tobiases, some Warwicks, Jaydees some Carl Thompsons, Laklands and even Ibanez SDGR basses all look instantly like they'd be comfortable to put on.
25. lol congratulations, your assimilation is complete.
