2.
By suppliers do you mean with regards the parts? Mark
Only the headless graphite necks and bodies.
  3. Hmmm, because things are taking too long to organise with Jon, there may be a potential change of suppliers in the offing... ...stay tuned.
  4.
Wow, she's either tiny, or your jubblies are quite high!?
It could be said my jubblies are of an elevated persuasion. Esepecially now when I'm around that particular singer
  5. Before I danced, someone would probably need to complete a Risk Assessment and take out Public Liability insurance. In any case, I rarely play stages that are big enough. Most of the time I have a space about 1m x 1m between the percussionist and the drummer. On Saturday one of the singers swung her arm back too far and clouted me in the jubblies while we were playing. Luckily her aim was off.
  6.
(and when I finally get my ass into gear, I've got to make another one... ahem  ).
How many years has it been now?
  7. I've played this bass, am having serious difficulty persuading myself not to buy it. It plays flawlessly, classic Status sound, super super low action. 'Ave a bump.

    Wal's...
yes CK, it does involve tweaking a few knobs.. Well, 5 to be precise...
and a spanking?
  9. I would, but at 36 I'm over the hill ...
  10.
I've listened to both the Epifani UL410 and the Bergantino AE410. Imho, and to my ears the Berg gives a better tone and projection. I've also listened to the Shuttle 6.0, which isn't bad at all. A few more tweaks to the controls and it will be really nice. For the warmness you're after I'd also consider the MarkBass LMII or SA450 PM Funkmunky - he uses a Berg AE410 and a Markbass SA450 head. Hamster
FWIW: I've listened to an Epi UL310 cab with a solid state head and thought it sounded very warm and full but the mid range wasn't that well defined. I've listened to a Berg 4x10 with a GB Neopak head (similar pre to the Shuttle) and the sound was warm with a well defined mid range. I've listened to a EBS Neo212 with my Shuttle 6 and also had a well defined mid range with perhaps less warmth but still a lot of B string authority. I like the idea of the GB neo 212 cab if it also offers a tight mid range. I've also tried the MB LMK and F1 head with the Berg and it sounded a touch warmer than the Shuttle but the midrange was slightly less defined. To be honest the differences could be wiped out by stage acoustics probably quite easily.
  11.
I think a lot of people have a problem with Jeff because he's sometimes right, but sometimes quite mistaken, and often in the same sentance!

Like most of us, JB can talk sense one minute and unmitigated b******S the next. We need to be able to recognise the difference.
I think thats the same point I made earlier.

    Wal's...
I second that. Nik's Wal has a really nasty tone, but "nasty" in a good way!!!!!!
does it involve tweaking knobs?
  13.
Hello Bob. My name's Bob too! We should start a Club Built by Roberts
Or a jazz band...? Doh, someone's beaten you to it... http://www.bobs.com/
  14. hiya bob, welcome aboard
  15.
On the plus side dude, you've probably saved yourself a fair whack of cash. Is it not possible to get New Zealand sourced woods shipped to one of the more reputable builders over here in the UK? Eude
It definitely is, the only problem is actually finding the stuff. NZ woods are generally protected and subject to logging quotas. Some of it like rimu and swamp kauri is pretty easy to find but other stuff like a nice lump of quilted red beech is pretty difficult unless you know someone who has a log they're cutting up. Yet I have friends with a kitchen floor made out of slats of gorgeous quilted red beech! A lot of stuff is often just acquired opportunistically over a long period of time and stock piled. I think thats what Ian has been doing. Having said all that, my parents often need something to keep them occupied so I guess I could get my dad to do a bit of detective work...
  16. ok, so its not just me then? I found a bit worrying the lines on the headstock which aren't completely straight. They sort of wobble a little. The ironic thing is that his acoustic guitars look beautiful. I guess he's just not set up for sculpting solid bodies.
  17. Here are some of the photos he sent.
  18. this probably needs to go in the recycling forum.
  19. Well I will actually have Saturday's back if I've left the band, so I might be able to make it. God knows what I will be bringing. Hopefully a brand new Shuker headless 6! If someone has something particular they'd like me to take let me know. The shame is regardless of what I bring, there are always some instruments that people miss out on because they're left behind... ...noones down for bringing a Genz Benz Shuttle 6 yet so I could bring that with the EBS cab.
  20. Yeah, i suspect he just lost confidence. I just replied saying 'its up to you mate'. In some respects it appears I've set him a challenge if he's not totally comfortable with the aesthetic side of things. I'll post the photos of his 4 string up here later. Feel welcome to tell me if you think my expectations were too high!
  21.
This is endemic in the genre at the moment as far as I'm concerned he is not alone. I can't think of 1 'bass' album I would listen to twice. No music, just playing. I don't include bass players as composers/leaders in that, notable example of good stuff, eg Bass Desires Marc Johnson
I'd be inclined to exclude Michael Manring, although the more I've listened to him, the more I've become aware that he recycles phrases and licks a fair bit. I'd like him to move onto other things too though. There have been quite a few successful producer/bass players out there though, Trevor Horn, Youth, Don Was, Bernard (and Nile)...
  22.
Did a function in a tin shed and it was HOOOOOOOT! I have never felt so ill - blinding headache, nausea but I still played the gig. When it ended, I collapsed with heat exhaustion. Never felt so ill in my life. Went to bed feeling like s**t, woke up fine. Hardest gig I have ever done.
I've had heat stroke, it really knocks the stuffing out of you. At least its easy to get over though if you have enough rest.
  23.
I think Berlin has kind of become a parody of himself.
OK, the $64,000 question is : do you think he's still developing as a player? (I think I can predict the answer)
  24.
Hello guys ! I have a Trace Elliot V-Type all tube head. The head have 4 preamp tubes: 2 are closer to the power tubes and the other 2 are lower situated and closer to the input - i think these are preamp tubes and the others are drive tubes, i'm right ? The preamp tubes are Tronal, what do you knoe about these tubes? Tnks !
Is it possible for you to take a photo of the tubes? It might help people to help you better.
  25. Well this is a bit interesting. We were discussing body shapes this week and he sent me a picture of the 4 string he had been making for someone else. The lines were a bit awkward looking and so I tried to offer some delicate constructive feedback in comparison to what I was hoping for with examples from other manufacturers (Shuker, Thompson and Fodera). With the result that the guy lost his bottle and has backed out completely from the project!
