1. Hi SteveO, I remember you.
2. Possibly Froover? She plays Ashbory basses, however she also says she's in NW Scotland.
3. Robbie Shakespeare apparently plays PRS basses.
4.
why couldn't ashdown get it right?
I think they did, you get a hell of a lot of marketing for your money.
5.
Hi, Just thought I would share a couple of pics of my Celinder Custom 6. This 36" scale bass is from 1997 and has a Cherry body with Rio Rosewood on top (Wenge and flame maple veneers). The neck is a 5 piece American rock maple with rosewood laminates and 26 frets. Enjoy
Wow, lovely bass! Do you have any sound clips?
6. Why not spin the issue on its head? Given the fingerboard is wood and vibrating, why wouldn't it have an effect? My own experience with trying 70's jazz basses is that it affects the uppermost frequencies - above 1KHz. So fret snap, clatter, sparkle etc are all affected. Of course if you have flatwounds, dead strings or rubbish pickups you probably won't notice anything.
7.
Great forum. This has probably been answered many times before, but what happened to bassworld? I remember I joined just when I started playing a few years back.
It's a bit complicated, but the short story was basically that Gerard felt it was a millstone around his neck and he didn't want to work with Ped and I on creating a more stable and secure forum.
8.
Thanks but not really. Not sure how the Bongo compares with the Ray for sound but I'm wanting to move away from the MusicMan sound.
Think of a seedy motel, late at night. Its a hot summer night, the room is dead quiet except for quiet tappings and knockings of concerted effort from a heap under the bedcovers. There's a cracking sound, a scream of release as strings snap and the covers are thrown back to reveal a spent looking MM SR5 in bed with a sweaty, overweight Wal looking much worse for wear, collapsed on top of it. Both are trapped in a toilet seat together. 2 months later - the squeaky burp of a newborn baby Bongo.
9.
Yes, it's close to the Neo. It's the Neo preamp feeding an icepower 500W asx2 power amp. What I meant is that reading talkbass you'd get the impression that it's a quantum leap in bass amplification, which it isn't.
Well maybe thats what some of the peeps on TB set out looking for and when they couldn't find anything to persuade them from that view they then knew it must be true? He is the Messiah!! I just know from personal experience what a lot of Emperors New Clothes there is in amps and speaker cabs. Thats why I've been happy with my GK combo for so long. The GB Neopak kept all the GK's tight mid-range, and tamed the sizzle a little. I don't know yet what the low end response is going to be like but the low end response of my EBS cab sounds a lot tighter and better defined than the GK so hopefully... ...eet will be TOIT! TOIT LOIKA TOIGA!!! YESH YESH!! Now if only EBS made a Neo212 wedge with extra cheese...
10. blimey, what a steal. Must have been a fair few tyre kickers on that one then.
11. Well I tried a GB Neopak 3.5 at Bassdirect and Mark said it had the same preamp section as the Shuttle 6.0. I preferred the sound of the Neopak compared to the MarkBass Little Mark and F1 heads so my decision certainly isn't based on hype.
I do not believe that any more or less people would have danced at the gig if I had used my R500, Walkabout, or SWR heads.
I don't know about you but I use an amp so I can hear myself against the drums and guitar.
12. Just thought I'd mention that. Look how far we've come! Nearly half the number of Bassworld members just in 1 year! Come on now, group hug everyone.
13. Spot the odd one out?
14. FWIW I could play Mr Pink when I was 16. Its not a difficult song to learn but I was probably twice the size. That Wooten stuff on the other vids is bloody impressive though.
15. I thought Alex lived above the Gallery?
16.
Is that in London? That was up at £2900 but it's been there over 2 years(!) so who's gonna say £2K cash to get it off their hands?
Sorry, yes, I realise I didn't make that very clear did I? It sounds to me like making an offer would definitely be worth a crack. The lack of hang tags does concern me a little though. Did someone return it, I wonder?
17. there's a birdseye maple NS5XL which has been on display for a while there, it doesn't have any hang tags on it. I wondered how much they wanted for it though.
18. I'm hardly a jazz afficianado but the nicest jazzes I've played have been (in order) 1) Birdy's sweet '65 preCBS : in the Bass Gallery. Warm (unlike many vintage jazz basses I've played) and sweet. Authorative without being aggressive. 2) Celinder Larry Graham : at the LGS a few years ago. Same as the preCBS jazz but without the mojo 3) My Celinder Update J : Completely different sound to the two above but it does that Marcus thing very well
19. That amp has been advertised for the best part of a year. You'd think the lights would have switched on by now.
it is worth absolutly nothing like that, last one on ebay i think sold for more than a grand less, correct me if im wrong
It sold for £400 the second time it was listed. I was the original buyer but I walked away from it because it was in a really abused state and the seller hadn't mentioned that the original tubes were still installed and only half of them were working. I thought that given its state there could potentially be all sorts of things wrong with it if it had been shagged senseless and not maintained at all.
20. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Sadowsky-NYC-Bass_W0...1QQcmdZViewItem Gorgeous sausage quilt top! Reasonable starting price and there seems to be a bit of interest.
