I think its great that the membership is taking an active role in generating some genuine consensus over what is acceptable conduct. However, if the consequence of the membership taking more of a steer is that there's more open conflict on the forum then I still see there being a need for moderation. I have no problem whatsoever with responsible members taking responsibility for their own behaviour on the forum, in fact I applaud it. Regrettably however, its a fact of life that not everyone who contributes to Basschat is prepared to take on responsibility for the impact of their behaviour on other members. In fact I'm fairly sure that this is almost unavoidable with any forum that has a membership from a diverse range of backgrounds and cultures. However, to put some perspective on matters, I think members who have a more casual interest in the forum are likely to be put off by open conflict. Regardless of any political interests as far as freedom of speech is concerned, I think this is why there is a need for moderators. They have a thankless task sometimes and often do the dirty work of taking matters up with individuals to avoid the risk of open conflict. This makes the forum much less odious. to use

I did a double take when I first saw him as he looked like someone who I thought I should know but couldn't put a name to the face.

Update: Neck is going to be glued up this week and left to settle over the Christmas period. Jon reckons the Wittman tuner suggested by Skelf is a great idea and it isn't going to suck much additional power so he can run it off the same battery for the turquoise LED's. We've agreed that the tuner will be located in the side of the top horn too. It's going to be interesting to see how much space is taken up in the chambered body by all this kit!

I don't know about in the last few months but you used to find Mesa Boogie Bass 400+ heads for about £6-700 on Ebay occasionally before they announced the production run would be finishing. Really great amp, the one I had was very reliable (and very heavy!). After a couple of Basschat owners, I think Tayste has it now. Mesa Boogie also made a much less popular Buster 200 wedge combo which might actually prove to be better value. There is a Trace Elliot V6 for sale in the Basschat Market Place as well which was around that price range and that would be well worth looking into. Just make sure you check the output valves out before you buy on any valve amp, complete replacement of a set can be expensive. I had a look at a Trace V4 combo like Ped's a couple of weeks ago after the guy tried selling it on Ebay. Half the output valves were dead and the other half were on their way out. I walked away from it, but it was a bloody nice amp. I can see why Ped likes his so much. Caveat: I don't like grindy sounding valve amps.

I can't answer this. The prospect of losing them all but one fills me with morbid dread. I would be chucking as many of them out of the window as I could in their cases and hoping the cases could absorb the impact. And don't even get me thinking about how I'd deal with the valve amps...

LOL So what did you study and would you recommend the course to others? Has the qualification proved useful?

You could get a new fingerboard put on it. Get the luthier to install graphite stiffening rods and ask him to make sure the fingerboard is from something very dense and stiff.

Dan[/quote] If its blue and red, its a Mk1, if its silver and black then its a Mk2. Mk1's need a replacement ROM, whereas Mk2's can be updated by flashing the firmware. I know there were issues with the Mk2 creating staccato notes which was fixed with a firmware update.

I have tried the Burmans and the Acmes together. The Acmes make the Burmans sound like they're putting 25w each!

Update: Got one of these on the way care of Alex at the Bass Gallery to compliment my [url="http://s6.photobucket.com/albums/y222/crazykiwibass/Amps%20and%20effects/?action=view&current=DSCF0990.png"]GK RB700 combo[/url]. Hopefully I should have a very tight, clean and powerful sounding set up on stage. I've decided that the Trace V8 isn't powerful to drive the Acmes in a way they need so I'm going to try and replace them with one of these: An EBS 212 neo, I'm going to be on the look out for a 210 neo to match and maybe I can take the RB700 head out of my combo if I need to use it with the cabs.
