Yeah, I'll hopefully be able to trigger some short arpeggiated bass synth sequences for if/when we do "I Feel Love". The one thing I thought of yesterday which I've yet to ask Jon about is an onboard tuner. I remember seeing one available years back for direct fitting into a bass but I can't remember who the company was.
why 3 basses guys?
Smith 5 for all the modern club and latin choonz Pre EB Musicman Stingray for the Chic/Bros. Johnson numbers Celinder Update P for motown, Jackson 5 and Stevie Wonder Admittedly if I had a Stingray 5 or Sandberg Basic 5 I could probably leave the preEB Musicman and Smith at home. There are some pretty good value sack trucks here for £40 + £7 delivery: They're out of stock ATM though but you can look up on Google and find others for sale for about £20 more. (How about that out for a mark up, eh?) I'm almost certainly going to get one once I can decide where it needs to be delivered. EDIT: Just found a seller with 29 of them on Ebay for £35 each and £8 delivery!

I love that guitarists sound and his playing is pretty cool. Dunno about the bass though, its a bit french. Speaking of which, where are your french mates these days?

Looks like the love child of a Warwick Streamer and a Ritter Roya

Nothing much to update on this apart from Jon's been investigating the best method to cut the inlay apparently. Laser is out because it might burn the wood, so it looks like water jet might be the best alternative. Jon also offered a few other pieces of birdseye but I've stuck with the original piece he offered. Ooh, found this clip on the Shuker site of a bass being played with the Delano SBC pickups I've specified. Compare that clip to the sound of my Smith 6 here and see what you think. I think the Delanos are slightly brighter but otherwise pretty close.
MB1. Mr Bananaman i understand you mean well, and dont think you could possibly take my dubious, untoward approach of wanting to kill people that may wish to even sniff my gear, but i do feel sir!, you need to make a stand!.I do not, let anyone use my Ashdown 575 210T(A rare British Beast).I like yourself have stumbled on the wonderments of Valve sound and Ampeg.I own a Ampeg SVT CL and a SVT 410 HLF (Not cheap!) and to be honest the guy i bought my CL off sold it ,for the very reasons you started the thread,He was not happy about other people using his gear.PUT YOUR FOOT DOWN(preferably in a Dr Marten boot) and just say NO!.Offending someone is always gonna be cheaper than getting a valve amp fixed!
Is it just me, or is there a marked decrease in the quality of punctuation through the course of your postings yesterday evening?

This fretless looks to be a steal by comparison!

Can't contribute much on this one, the lowest number I can justify is 5. Two extended range basses (fretted and fretless) plus jazz, precision and stingray. I get uncomfortable beyond 10 TBH. Even though I'm at 7 right now, I haven't played the Pentabuzz in about 4 months.

welcome Tam, hope you enjoy the forum

I have a weakness for finding a bass I really like and then getting an amp that makes it sound at its best. So far having the GK RB700 combo has helped me resist most of the temptation to have a flat full of basses matched to amps matched to cabs! I still have a weakness for unusual valve amps though.

Hi warpig! TB converts are especially welcome.

welcome RB - how far from Roman Road are you?

yeah, how about the classic, tried and tested combo of a P-bass and Ampeg SVT? Last you for years that will.
-
wow - lovely stuff. What are the serials on the Jaydees, out of interest?
I'm after that big black thick R'n'B bass sound, like you hear on Jill Scott's 826 live album (i think the dude used a P bass lyte for that, so i heard once), or like Pino on D'angelo's Voodoo, i can obvisouly get that sound in the studio with the F Bas, but live is a little more tricky. It's tough though, because i love the Meshell Ndegeocello kind of sound like she always pulls off so sweetly, just pure jazz bass honk!!!
Aaaaaaaaah! OK got you now. Try an Ampeg then but I suspect you're totally right about your F-bass. It's probably a little thin sounding for what you're after.
As for the drive thing...is that essentially adding a small amount of distortion to the sound? I'm not familiar with all this kinda stuff!
Yeah, just a smidgin of a tad of valve drive.
I must admit though, when i tried out that Jazz bass 24 in the shop, i went through an Ashdown head of some kind (one of their better ones i think) and an ampeg 6x10...that sounded sweet as...loads of thump!!!!
Well Ashdown also have a vintagey kind of sound I guess, to my ears its a little too woolly to sound that satisfying though. Did you try that combination of cab and amp with the F-bass at all? It might do the trick.

Hi Eric, welcome back. I'd love to live in Melbourne, I have friends there living in Glen Iris too. Houses prices aren't too different to the UK - at least last time I looked. I couldn't find a bank that would loan enough for me to buy there though, which was a shame.
