Then all we need is a catheter, a floor mop and bucket, lots of polythene sheeting, some leather cuffs and a small rodent, preferably a baby mole rat as they like dark places. Dood loves it.

oh yes, add me to the rick list. They're a bass I think is made for playing with a pick rather than fingers.

Yeah there's something so musically complete about just bass and vocals. Jaco and Joni did something like that on Mingus and Heijra

Most 80-90's Gibson basses leave me wondering why they bothered to cut the trees down in the first place. I'm not a huge fan of Gibson basses over all but that period seems a particularly pointless waste to me. Also my old Westone Spectrum 2 bass. Apart from that I can see merit in most things I've tried.

[i]Just[/i] enough chordal technique to make the song work. I didn't like the tone he was getting though. I wish he'd used something a little brighter for solo playing. Have to confess I've been a closet Abe Laboriel fan for a while. The CHiP's TV series was formulaic and boring but he did some incredible playing on the incidental music in the 70's after pwning the original composer. The producers apparently left him to his own devices in the studio! You can hear him on the original theme tune here, its not as flashy as the incidental stuff but he's funky as hell:

For a loud amp I'd suggest GK if you would like a warm, clean and aggressive sound. Otherwise a Mesa Boogie Bass 400+ is well worth considering if you can handle lugging it to a gig. Yes the bass is my Celinder - it had to be a black bass photographed in a very specific manner so the shadow was in the right place, so to save time I did the photography myself. 'k, in which case you almost certainly won't have the shorting problem I described. The other thing is that the contacts might be bent from wear and tear.

I can't get along slapping on a 6, I tend to use 4's and 5's instead. Les Claypool is another player who slaps well on a fretless Carl Thompson 6 of all things.
