1. Hey Hadrien - glad you made the switch just in time! Welcome aboard, its an honour to have you here!
2. My Ritter RCG700 double gig bag is on the verge of falling apart after 6 months... ...well, it was falling apart 2 weeks after I got it all due to some shoddy stitching around the shoulder straps that I had to reinforce with some black denim from some old jeans so I don't want to get Ritter again. However I've looked on websites and I can't see any alternative suppliers. Does anyone know of any?!
3. http://z4.invisionfree.com/Double_Bass/index.php?showforum=1 I came across this in the Smith forums. Anyone who can construct their own double bass - complete with carved cedar top, has my undying respect. Its a fascinating process too, I never understood how the luthiers managed to get the top carved so consistently and smoothly. He's used a homemade plane to smooth the top out where I've seen other makers use a scraper.
4. You know its a funny thing, I'd been wondering why my Mesa Boogie Strategy 400 got warm even with very modest use as a hifi amp - it was doubling as a room heater on chilly evenings. Then I discovered the fan vent had been obstructed! It all seems to be OK now though, the front of the amp is luke warm to the touch instead of being toasty. Tombowlus on TB has a V8 and seems to be amassing a collection of nice valve trace heads - looks like he's about to take delivery of a hexavalve soon.
5. Dan Whats involved in installing a MIDI pickup on a bass? How do you go from taking out of the box to making noises? Do you have any opinions on how the Roland, Axon and Yamaha systems compare to one another?
6. Noone on the DUC forum bothered telling me about this. That's good isn't it? Did they charge you £6 for sending a CD without a box?
7. They're crap, if you want to sell yours let me know.
8. Did you read the guidelines on Forum use directly at the top of this page? "When you've achieved a result change the start of your post to "COMPLETED" and one of the mods will delete it for you." It got changed to completed so it got deleted, I think you were beaten to it. However, we do have the ability to restore deleted threads if needed.
9. wlecome aboard mr cougar!
10.
I think your main problem lies in the name on one of the boxes of the kit you have... digideswotnot used it, Headache usually follows, good luck with their customer support!
Well their customer support has been OK, but there's only so much information that can be put in email or on the DUC forum. I need someone experienced to have a poke around and tell me if its the PC or my understanding which is the problem! Honestly, if its not one issue, its another with this set up! I used Steinberg Cubase VST before this and it all worked fine.
11. For those of you who I've not managed to ear bash yet, I've been having on going issues with Pro Tools M Powered and my Delta 1010 sound card. Not necessarily blaming the products for my problems but after dealing with a set of compatibility and installation issues, I've now been told that the Delta doesn't have its own MIDI synthesis chip so I have to hook Pro Tools up to either a soft synth or external hardware. But thats not the point of this post - I've snagged myself an ex-demo Yamaha CS6R sound module for making trancey type noises and I was wondering how many others on the forum regularly work with MIDI? I know already that TheBrokenDoor does for his live performances, are there any others who use it either for performing or recording?
12.
Value is only relevant to an individual person.
Thank you.
13. There are digital wireless systems now available such as this one that claim to be colourless.
14.
It's not the perceived value of the instruments I'm questioning so much as the logic behind it.
The logic behind "percieved value" lies in an individuals psychology, doesn't it? Figure out why an individual wants to pay lots of money for something you think is over valued and you'll have your answer. Best thing to do would be to find someone who has recently bought a Wal off Ebay?
15. Overpriced is very subjective, it follows the heart rather than the mind. You could argue that the case with Wal basses is even more extreme than Fender (given prices 10 years ago) and they don't have the history of Fender. Whereas a bass such as a Alembic Series bass which, it could be argued, has been made with even more care than either doesn't attract anywhere the same interest. I think its all about percieved value at the end of the day innit? I don't think the bottom will fall out of the market suddenly but the "vintage" bass market will continue to grow as models from the 80's join those of the 70's. There are some specific instruments that attract genuine interest and then retailers use any excuse they can find to bump up the price of others to match.
16. Hi Tyler, welcome to Basschat

*edit*

maybe the bongos are different then. I tried a Stingray HS and I was getting different output levels for each position of the pickup switch.
19. Looks to be another interesting build from AGC Hope it turns out to be everything you'd like it to be, Pete.

An attractive Bongo, at last! I wonder if the pickup settings have uneven output levels like the other HS basses made by Musicman?

Defret

Machines has defretted his Vintage bass and said it was easier than he thought it would be. Also have a look at this link: http://www.geocities.com/charlesarms/
22. You could always ask Alex if they'd match the Bass Centre's price?
