1. I used to play this in my last band. Great song for some improvised fills in the chorus, reactions from the crowd usually reveal the bass players.
2. Hello from Mainland China. Hunan to be precise...and welcome.
3. It appears their bass player doesnt have any future at all. I hear them but...where are they?
4. Some of you will probably be thinking this is no surprise as Fender's struggles have been well known as have Gibson's with quality control. http://www.ajc.com/news/national/gibson-guitar-company-maker-the-les-paul-facing-bankruptcy-after-116-years-business/OlaIEYdtLEv1rP92RvZFrM/ In the recent past, Paul Reed Smith raised the issues of there being fewer student guitar players and therefore less adults to buy premium quality instruments. At the time I recall the idea was dismissed by many but Gibson's issues are undeniable.
5.
2009 to 2017! Expect a new post very soooooooooooooon!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Lemme guess, Jon's relic'd it for you?
6. I had a transition period NS5CR in tobacco burst with gold hardware. I didn't realise it was rare. Transition period because it had a dot fingerboard and fatter neck profile of the SSD basses but was branded Spector.
7. I haven't tried many compressor pedals in the last 10 years because every pedal I tried was a disappointment. However I bought an a Effectrode PC2A like you about 12 months ago and I pulled the trigger on an FEA Labs Dual Band Compressor after having my name on their waiting list for 9 months. The FEA Labs pedal is like a Trace Elliot Dual Comp but a little more configurable and with much higher spec components. I can't hear any noise at normal playing levels. I've heard good things about the Spectracomp too BTW. But the tone print functionality will only last as long as TC keep the software compatible with your phone. I tend to worry about whether software based music solutions will still be supported in 10 years.
8. I use multi effects for modulation (Zoom B3 or Lexicon MPXG2). Things that are on a lot like gain, eq. bass synth and compression are standalone. It's been a good solution so far because I don't end up with a pedal board stuffed with pedals that only get used 10-20% of the time.
9.
Thanks for the info Kiwi! I highly appreciate it as there is no genuine info online about fitting 2 basses into the case.
You're welcome. Do it at your own risk though - it's a hack.
10.
Fender made a five WAAAAY before that.
Yes it was high C. Alembic did the first low B for Jimmy Johnson in 1981 I think.
11. As a civil servant, I processed the post code for a famous songwriter/bassist-who-cannot-be-named-due-to-the-1989-Official-Secrets-Act census form in 1990 while he was in Newcastle on tour.
12.
(20th November 1998 Stamped on head stock )
I thought it looked like one of Jon's early ones! He doesn't use that headstock shape any more.
13.
Thanks for the info Kiwi! Did you find that the 2 instruments were safe enough that way?
For the most part, yes. If you get two gig bags, go for the thinnest so you have enough room. The basses won't move around as much because they'll be jam packed so no need for the extra padding and they'll be protected from sharp impacts in the same way by the shell. If you're going to put other stuff in the case, make sure you are careful about sharp corners/edges and make sure the gig bag zips don't get caught between the shell and the instrument or you'll end up with a zip shaped indentation in the finish...as I did.
14. I have used a Mk 1 bass safe with a Levy double gig bag and it depends on the overall thickness of your basses. Anything with a radiussed top won't work so forget Warwicks, Spectors and anything semi hollow. Standard Fender type instruments with flat tops and hardware will just about be OK. The thinner the gig bag, the better for fit. Normally I go with a guitar and a headless/semi hollow bass in a double gig bag. But on one occasion I wrapped a reliced guitar in microfibre towels (which can be secured with velcro cable ties) with a bass in a gig bag and it worked out really well.
15. Maurice whatisface from that band...something...he used to play one of these. But it was a four string and black. He's dead now unfortunately.
16. None of mine hum. Hum can be caused by a lot of things not necessarily related to what's inside the amp.
17. I think you're right about speaker tech progressing so much since the late 70's when biamped columns were so popular. I also think that PA systems have progressed too so that massive stacks aren't needed when there's adequate FOH power (and bi/triamping). Backline is less about filling the venue and more about hearing yourself clearly on stage. These days it tends to be more subtle - used to separate HF horns and tweeters from a 15" or 12" woofer in many combos. Or pedals with features like lo pass overdrive or chorus, or dual band compression.
18. Here's mine. No esoteric bass grunge just signal conditioning (EBS Microbass 2 preamp, FEA Labs dual band compression and Empress 3 band parametric eq), Future Impact bass synth and the Zoom handles modulation and delays.
19. I have one - great cleans. I also have a couple of their bass heads as well. GLWTS.
20. If comedian Simon Munnery had a gig with him, they could bill themselves as Dunnery and Munnery. Would probably be quite good.
21. I'm very interested to see where he goes with his new band. It's long over due. He's generally avoided more than four strings on the grounds that the E string doesn't sound as punchy but I'm looking forward to seeing what he can do with 6 strings. Perhaps more of his tasty chordal stuff. Mark is a multi instrumentalist too - drums, guitar and bass mainly. Not sure about keys.
