1. Nice set up - hard to imagine how Mark Bass might improve on it.
 2.
Powersoft do good reasonable weight Class D amps with plenty of grunt. Best check the secondhand options unless you have a hotline to Santa!
This - Peavey do some cheap (albeit older) Class D amps in their DPC range. The one you probably want to keep an eye out for is the DPC 1400. Alternatively Dood was selling a Powersoft power amp for reasonable money last month.
 3. In all honesty, it's not that heavy for a valve amp. My Mesa Boogie Bass 400+ was 45kg when in its shockmounted road case.
 4. You will need to fit a set of strings that have an appropriate gauge in order to tune to high C, but otherwise yes this would be possible. For a composite instrument it doesn't sound brittle in the slightest and the upper registers are very clean sounding. A high C tuning could sound beautiful.
 5. I was mulling through photographs of my old kit and remembered I still had two of these that are surplus to requirements. I originally bought three of these sets for gigging live - two were in cases and one set wasn't. They've proved to be very reliable so long as you don't put rechargables in them. They're in great condition and each run on separate frequencies so you can have both sets running at the same gig on separate instruments. I'll have to confirm the frequency bands later in the week. Asking £75 per set or you can have both for £130. The science bit: No trades. I really need the cash for a non bass related purchase. First person with the money gets the pedal. A 10% deposit to secure either item is absolutely OK if you need to raise funds to purchase so long as the balance is paid within 30 days. Otherwise you risk losing the deposit. If it doesn't sell on here within 4 or so weeks, it will be sold on Ebay. Postage or collection is possible. 6. I've decided to embark on a rationalisation of my purchases over the last 10 years as the cash is needed for another aspiration. So I'm putting this wee cracker of a rack unit up for sale. Originally I got this for more control over mids in my rack set up. However I've moved away from a rack set up to a lightweight Class D based set up that is a one hand lift. Class D amps give me the mids I've been seeking. What you get with this unit is a two channel valve based parametric eq design for balanced and unbalanced inputs. Each channel has four bands (low, low-mid, mid-high, highs). So if you happen to gig small stages, this will help dial out the boom. If you have a bass that is excessively bright, this will help you dial into those sizzley frequencies. Alternatively...use it in the studio!

Continuously variable input and output gain controls (-20dB to +20dB)
Four bands of fully parametric equalisation per channel: LF: 30Hz to 1kHz, LM: 100Hz to 3kHz, HM: 1kHz to 12kHz, HF: 3kHz to 20kH
Each band offers 15dB of cut or boost
Each band features variable Q (bandwidth) between 0.5 and 5
More information is available here: http://tlaudio.co.uk...ucts/5013.shtml NB: The latest version has optical outs and pull controls, this version doesn't. 7. Cabs are 4ohm each, sorry for not mentioning that. I'm in the Hither Green/Lee area.

This bass is the second J Update made by Chris in 1994 for Danish session player Christian Danstrom. It's designed to do the Marcus Miller thing and I actually preferred the warmer sound of this bass over the Skarbee J Update that I used to own. The bass has active and passive modes at the flick of a small switch. The original pickups were a bit weedy sounding so I ordered some Celinder upgrades that are more in keeping with a passive 70's jazz bass. I haven't measured the string spacing and the bass has yet to be unpacked but would expect it to be around 18mm. I will check and confirm. The neck dimensions are worth noting - the nut is half way between a jazz and a precision bass in width. Otherwise the neck is fast and slim. The condition of the bass is fair - its been someone's workhorse so has its own share of dings and knocks, a few go through to the wood on the edge of the bass. None are large than the fingernail on my little finger. I did think about getting the bass refinished but to be honest, the dings offer peace of mind - one or two extra knocks are unlikely to affect its value. Having said that, the bass has never been played outside the house during my ownership. The asking price reflects the condition. 9. I've decided to embark on a rationalisation of my purchases over the last 10 years as the cash is needed for another aspiration. This iconic instrument needs no introduction, it was built in 1984 and is a early narrow width 5 string which makes it fairly uncommon. Basically, Steinberger fitted 5 string bridges, nuts (and modified pickups to cope with the wider string spacing) to their four string instruments ahead of developing wide necked 5 strings. The string spacing on this bass is a tad over 13mm but still comfortable to play for those who don't have fat fingers. The most suprising thing is the amount of low end this instrument puts out which is at odds with its diminutive appearance. The HAZ labs single pot eq boosts treble and cuts bass in one direction, and cuts treble/boosts bass in the other. One of the fattest sounding eq's I have encountered. No surprise that Steinberger XL2's remain popular with reggae/dub bassists. There are no issues and the bass is in excellent condition..I'm tempted to say near mint because I haven't been able to find any signs of careless use...or user wear for that matter. Even the paint on the tuning knobs is unworn. 15. I've decided to embark on a rationalisation of my purchases over the last 10 years as the cash is needed for another aspiration. So I'm putting this mythical monster up for sale. For those who don't know...Trace Elliot did a limited run of valve amps in the mid 90's named V4, V6 and V8. The V6 was only ever offered in green carpet. The V4 was available in green carpet but 25 black vinyl versions were offered each in combo and head format. The V8 was only available in the black vinyl format and estimates suggest only 100 were made. Not only rare but also exclusive and for a while was part of Entwhistle's set up. What you get is...monstrous lows, it's an Ampeg on steroids...its raw, its beefy it's very rock. It's the musical equivalent of being slapped in the face with a huge, bovril covered male prosthetic by a sh*t smiling Gene Simmons. I'm not into rock, bovril or Gene Simmons...I'm into funk so that's why I'm selling it. Features include:

Footswitching channels - clean and...less clean (depending on how you set the gain on the second channel, grindy fuzz is available if you want it.)
A three band passive eq with centre for the mid frequencies shifted via a pull pot. Personally, I don't understand the point as it doesn't make a big difference considering how beefy the amp sounds...but anyway.
A footswitchable compressor is single channel and you can set the threshold and ratio.
Series effects loop - stick your favourite OD in if the channels don't satisfy
The power can be halved from 400w to 200w using a switch on the back into either a 2 or 4 ohm load.
Speaker output which can be either through a jack or XLR.
A copy of the service manual is available here: http://www.scribd.com/doc/26854018/Trace-Elliot-V8-Service-Manual The science bit: No trades. I really need the cash for a non bass related purchase. First person with the money gets the amp. A 10% deposit to secure the amp is absolutely OK if you need to raise funds to purchase so long as the balance is paid within 30 days. Otherwise you risk losing the deposit. If it doesn't sell on here within 4 or so weeks, it will be sold on commission through a selected bass retailer. So the cost of commission will be added to the cost of the amp. Collection from SE London is preferred - this amp weighs at least 25kg (still lighter than my old Mesa Bass 400+ though). However I can deliver within London/Kent/M25 south for the cost of Zipcar hire (£8.50/hour) subject to availability.
 16. Dynamic. committed bassist with Fender bass and formidibble range of hardcore rock poses seeks up and coming band poised on the brink of greatness. Very important that the band has unrealistic expectations and delusions of self grandeur. Must be on the verge of signing with a record label, preferably the label run by the owner of the practice studios where they play. Must have supported a headline big name act like Boy George at a festival...in a small marquee, away from the main stage where people mainly came for the beer and to escape the rain. Lead singer must be arrogant and only be interested in the band as a vehicle for his own career. Alternatively if female singers, they must be preoccupied with themselves and give only fleeting acknowledgement to the other musicians, apart from the keyboardist who aligned himself with them years ago, knowing that if anyone was going to bring in the punters it was the pieces of totty in tight dresses. Guitarist must have a pretentious vision for the band that extends over 5 concept albums, ultimately finishing with a greatest hits album with the London Symphony Orchestra. Drummer must be too loud and speed up into the choruses and bridge, and agree with everything the singer says unless contradicted by the keyboardist. Or the guitarist...if that's OK with the singer. Keyboardist should be aloof and smug. Given website and app development is his day job, he will have sequenced everything and the majority of his rehearsal time is spent on the sly, trying to come up with ideas to sell to Google, make millions and retire. If you know of a band like this, please drop me a line. I will make sure to avoid them.
 17.
Thanks for the tip! Cool piezo saddle transducer system, I like this as an acoustic tone option. still want electromagnetic coils for a primary output signal. It's a totally different sound.
With the hexpander option you can have both.
 18. I have one of these for practice. Great amp which sounds just like a larger rig at lower volume.
 19. Slightly OT but...one of my favourite tracks - either as ELP or the original. Chunking along to the bass line on my Alembic graphite is very satisfying, with the neck pickup through the Trace V8+EBS cab and the bridge pickup through the Burman Pro501. (Fun fact - Greg Lakes bass in the video is serial #791300 and mine is #791309). The original (non prog) version is exquisite but good versions are hard to find. There have been a few recordings from the 70's I've heard that seem to play over-majestically and it ends up sounding sleepy.
 20. I've achieved something similar using two amps - one clean and one dirty to keep things fairly articulate. The sound reminded me of the guitarist from Bryan Adam's band - Keith Scott.
 21. What bass are you using with it? I see a status in your avatar but a fender in your signature. Also - did you try before you bought? What kind of music do you play? In my experience, basses with a lot of mids (like Status) or are woolly/scooped sounding (e.g. Smiths) sound more articulate through Class D amps. Vintage type basses like Fenders sound more articulate (and fatter) with US rock-orientated amps, which I'd consider the Boogie to be an example of. Start from that point before fiddling with the eq. or you'll be messing around for ever trying to hear things that the set up can't provide. When it comes to the eq. there are many reasons why you won't get consistent results which others have mentioned above - room acoustics, speaker direction, floor/stage construction, proximity to corners or other reflective surfaces etc. all contribute to very audible differences in tone. If you have reflective surfaces, think about dialling back the volume a bit to clean things up. Finally, the parametric is OK for dealing with room acoustics - use it to knock back frequencies that are too prominent and see if that helps.
 22. I've not used it but I've read around on it in the past. Make sure its properly dried out/seasoned heartwood. Chestnut is great for furniture but takes a long time to dry out. Fodera have used it on tops. If its sweet chestnut heartwood you might not even need to finish it due to the tannins already in the wood but it takes a finish well. Avoid the sap wood apparently.
