1.
I'm sure that this has probably been discussed here before
Yeaaaaaaah you could say that... 2. OK, I have a patch on the MPXG2 which is called 'Boston'...IIRC it had too much distortion and lacked some note definition in the attack. But if/when I'm in the same country as the unit, I might explore in more detail and see if I can wind back the comp a little.
3. Wear is hard to do convincingly - but when done well, more scars during the course of gigging makes it look better!
4. I narrowly missed out on a Fender Concert (Rivera era) last week. But it had been modded for metal distortion...why the owner didn't get a Boogie for that is beyond me, but hey ho. I've been checking out vids of the Cornford Carrera this week and have been impressed by the sound of the 6v6 power valve. Remarkably Fender like...but the amps are more expensive than the Concert I'd been bidding on.
5. Really? Prices seem to be going up then. Not sure if that's a good thing...
6. Scholz was part of Boston, wasn't he?

Hello

Its also waiting for its own dedicated site - bloody developers are unreliable, we're currently on number 7 who is looking like they don't know the difference between public and private pHp keys. Welcome aboard though Jalapeno Why not stick around and contribute to the mix, good things are planned.
8. We had when BC started out but a group of members were block liking each others posts like the former soviet states during the Eurovision song contest and using their enhanced status to bully and undermine new members. A rating system for content would be useful but that experience demonstrated that some people will exploit it and attempt to undermine the sense of community on here. So if we had one, it should be capable of being reduced as well as increased. The standard invision rating system doesn't work like that unfortunately.
9. This gets close... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L_1Mh2PIQYU
10. I'm trying to get that smooth Magnum PI type sound - doesn't have to be exactly that sound but the sort of thick, chorused distortion that was common in the 80's. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-OTvTv0EgIg Please tell me if this is right: Guitar-->distortion-->chorus-->compressor-->amp ? It doesn't sound like it when I set this up.
11. I have a noise free and compact rig at home - a Lexicon MPXG2 into a Burman Pro501. I have about 5 or so patches - one for Nile Rodgers sounds, one for Andy Summers, one for Edge riffs, one for Joe Satch and one for David Gilmour. Still find myself wondering about certain pedals though, like a cry baby wah pedal, as that wah has a very specific character that the same setting on the MPXG2 doesn't do so distinctively. How have some of you made decisions about the route you go down re: effects? Do you have a signature sound that you adapt for different songs or do you have a whole range of pedals that you use more creatively to explore stuff?

13. If the community helped itself a little, particularly regular/active members, by using the report button, it'll provide the mods with a clear basis on which to take action. It helps give the mods an idea of where boundaries of acceptability lie on matters such as taste or offence. It also helps to avoid tension bottling up and venting threads like the "whats happened to BC recently" thread. While they're popular, they can tend to have a negative influence on the atmosphere of the forum. Sometimes thats OK if temporary but more than a week of that and visiting the forum can become less attractive. If the most active members can help set an example through their own posting and challenge antisocial behaviour where they find it, before reporting, I'm confident that it'll create the best possible outcome in the long run for everyone.
14. 15. I'm surprised it lasted this long. I unsubscribed back in 2004 after one particular member decided being alpha male meant repressing or undermining any views that didn't agree with his own.
16.
In one way he's right. If you're selling any product the punters need to have confidence that they know what they're getting. If One Direction went on stage displaying tattoos, greasy hair and somehow managed to put on a heavy metal act, they could be finished. Their "success" could be over. If The Rolling Stones went on in "Boy Band" gear, they'd capture the front page of every paper in the country. David Jones proves Mr Dunnery wrong though, or maybe he proves him right too in a perverse way. In the 70s he invented a character and played that character on every album. Yet he re-invented that character on every album. On the other hand maybe his "thing" was that "David Bowie" changed all the time?
The technique is known as 'mirroring'. It's one mechanism that can be used to influence people - in the sense that if your audience believes you share their values/ideals/tastes and trusts you then they'll be more likely to accept your credibility. Typically this operates at an intimate, interpersonal level but its also applied as a sales technique and politicians, of course, are roundly chastised when they DON'T do it...although in that case it's called being "off-message". One clear example I can think of in real life is those f***ing bright trousers that were all the rage last Summer. I thought they looked dreadful but clearly the people wearing them thought the trousers said something important. Apparently they had roots in middle class perceptions of rural aristocratic life along with the anoraks and checked shirts. So of course it made sense (in my own mind at least) that thousands of middle class, status conscious, London hooray henries and henriettas would want to associate themselves with something class-related and aspirational. There again...maybe others wore them just because they thought they were fashionable.
17. OK so I've had a chance to review the results and they're definitely interesting and may even be relevant to other active discussions. We had just over 350 responses which was great and provided an insight for us who was actually engaged with the site at the time the survey was open. I'm going to post just Section 1 today with other sections being posted over the next week or so. I know some of the text is hard to read - my apologies for that, I haven't managed to find a way to download the displayed results yet. It's something I'm working on. Question 1 - How long have you been a member of Basschat for? Clearly there are a lot of member who have been part of the community for a long time! Question 2 - Whch age range do you fit within? In some ways, this was a bit of a surprise - a very strong peak in the 45-54 range and a slightly lower but still significant peak in the 35-44 year range. This is consistent with the age distribution of who generally shows up to Bassbashes. BUT I was wondering where all the younger, just starting out players were though. They seem to be under represented considering so much of what volume musical instrument manufacturers produce is aimed at beginners. Question 3 - Which of the following best describes your level of playing confidence? No real surprises here - a nice standard bell curve. But again, beginners might possibly be under-represented. Question 4 -How did you find out about Basschat? Twelve percent of you are the geniuses that legends are made of. Otherwise, no surprises here. Other methods? No comment. Question 5 - Silly question: Do you approve of silliness on the forum? And...if so, why not? Some fairly serious replies. More to come over the next few days.
18. Judging by the headstock logo at 1:05 its a Tobias. But there's not enough light to tell what model it is.
19. Hmmm, Nick Beggs is in LB...I wonder if he takes on students.
20. lol He was flat sharing with Paul Gambaccini for a while too - but they were never in a relationship together. http://www.dailyreco...-my-fans-969372
21. Seems like their management was giving them some bad advice at the time...but it was nice to see them all reconciled.
22. This is a fascinating video - regardless of whether you like the band or not. They all seem individually very nice, so how the hell did they end up falling out? Also - I've decided Nick Beggs must be immortal. Not a line on the mans face after 20 years seems incredible...cliff-esque even. Smooth operator too with Limahl in private...
23. Or if cloning isn't an option: Vox1 - Beverly Knight Vox2 - Kate Cebrano Guitar - Nile Rogers Bass - Sharay Reed Keys - David Paich Drums - Jeff Pocaro (or if we're talking about the living) - Sheila E
24. Vox1 - Prince Vox2 - Prince Guitar - Prince Bass - Prince Keys - Prince Drums - Prince
25. Wal's are wonderful. One of the few instruments I've played where there is really some indefinable magic about how they sound and feel. And they're so consistently good as well. I really don't know why I never owned one.
