1. The problem with doing each fret is that its level will only be relative to its neighbours, not to the string. If you don't have low action, it probably won't matter though. But a flat beam will ensure a more consistent result .
 2. 140w into a 2x12 cab of 103db sensitivity is perfectly adequate for pub gigs in my experience. Just keep the drummer under control and castrate the guitarist.
 3. Also: http://basschat.co.uk/topic/196455-diy-fret-leveling/
 4. Crowning the fret means less pressure is needed to make clean string contact. Also fret levelling is normally done with carborundrum abrasive paper stuck to a straight edge, not a fret file. Crowning fret files are cheap too - less than the straight edge. If you like low action, you'll be better off getting a straight edge that can slip under the strings while the neck is in tension.
 5. Traynor are superb value. Otherwise, look for a Mesa Boogie Bass 400+ or a Buster combo but be prepared for a huge wait/weight (aha).
I came to the same conclusion as you and have just bought myself a 1972 Burman MPA Pre and SL100 Powerpak Slave. I'm preparing myself for their arrival by doing weights for at least an hour a day...
Was that the set advertised on Ebay recently? I was tempted but I have too much gear I don't regularly use as it is. There was a complete set for sale recently too - with vertical stakced speakers. Welcome to the club though
 6. They look too much like a Wal to me...and they were launched when Wal was in decline too.
 7.
You know when you get a cut inside your mouth and you just can't stop tonguing it? Well it's like that
I use clove oil followed by ibuprofen. Clove oil tastes nasty, but managing an irritation so it doesn't get worse is important.
 8.
Where is this hatred? Whether or not the manufacturer is a BCer or not is of no relevance.
Apart from basic respect. Its not the opinions which matter but the way in which they are expressed which perhaps is the issue.
Feel free to quote me "slagging" Barefaced off - I don't deny it. My reasons are much more complicated that just not "liking" it.
I recall Alex has already had issues on the forum in the past with his enthusiasm and passion for what he does being misunderstood. This is why he has stated he has more important things to do with his time than fight petty point scoring battles. Others share his enthusiasm because he has developed a product that meet peoples' needs. His product speaks for itself. It's a position that many companies would deeply envy and a personal tribute to Alex's sheer cleverness. Keep it up the criticism though chaps, both of you come across as a bit vindictive because its just one issue. But you are also getting people passionate and excited in defence of Alex. It's great for Alex to see and great for Basschat!
 9. I've never seen one in white ever...I really hope the paint doesn't hide stunning quilted maple!
 10. Lee Jackson is well known for hot rodding Fender amps - a bit like Paul Rivera only he never worked for Fender.
 11.
By the way, here are some pics of a Fender-endorsed '59 prototype. Presumably, Herbie's followed this... Yep - it has a Precision decal...
It looks like your Roscoe Beck....Surely shum mishtake?!
 12.
TBH, I am struggling to give a toss here. Its a lovely old Jazz bass with history written all over it, played by a great bass player and it was made before everything was bar-coded and inter-webbed. So the best we have to go on is the word of the man who has owned it from new.
Exactly.
 13.
OK, let's cut to the chase here. Apparently Herbie F said in an interview: "I bought the bass on Oct. 12, 1959, from Manny's in New York. If you remove the neck you can see Leo Fender's signature and because it's a prototype it has various bits that are not standard. For example, underneath the pickguard they installed what was tantamount to a fuzzbox but it was very primitive - a couple of resistors that cut the signal in half and fouled it up. It had a switch on it and when you tried to cut the roughness out it wouldn't cut out properly, so I took it out." That's a pretty black/white statement from him there. I bought the bass on Oct. 12, 1959. So what's the suggestion from the doubters here? Is he a bit confused? Is he a liar? What?
I agree. Herbie talked about this specific issue after buying me a pint. He gets visibly irritated when people challenge him over the date...as if he's lying or something. Whatever the books or theory says, if the man bought it in 59, then as far as I and he are concerned, he bought it in 59. He isn't comfortable with the idea that its a prototype either. It was an off the shelf purchase and that's all there is to his story. I see where he's coming from. Why Fender would want to ship a prototype from Fullerton to New York when they could have sold it in LA is anyone's guess and seems implausible. Maybe Fender started making them in 1959 and someone forgot to tell the authorities.
 14. You can advertise guitars already on Basschat if you've signed up to use the classifieds. We have just commissioned another developer to get the forum site up and running so will look into the for sale side of things in a little more detail when the forum has been set up.
www.thefretboard.co.uk It's a very good forum and the marketplace moves at a high speed...
Uncle - will you be posting a link to Guitarchat on their site too?
 15.
Cheapest solution, get a pair of rechargeable batteries. One for 'normal' use and the other to go on charge overnight before a gig.
I had the same thing happen when going wireless. A rechargable battery was powering the wireless transmitter and the squealing was due to the noise of the battery dying, in exactly the way flyfisher suggested. So...
Any ideas on this would be appreciated brothers and sisters.
...are you using rechargable batteries? If you are, maybe best to replace them with procells.
 16. Sorry Bob, once any information enters the public domain it could be made accessible to anyone regardless of whether they're known to us or trusted. Hope you understand.
 17. There used to be some by BK Electronics which weren't available for a while due to a manufacturer no longer offering one of the components. But I did a search last month and discovered many more suppliers have cropped up in the last few years. I also had a look at the bracing in fEARful cabs and it seems to be done using a couple of posts rather than a grid of ply stiffeners...?
 18. Its not just Fairy that can be used, either... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N6dNJwvpgEo http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wNbLntHDG9Q

 21. Its a toss up between two at the moment and potentially between three. My main go to bass has been a Spector NS5CR - just the right amount of warmth and lots of growl. However, thats in NZ, so my real go to bass has been the Shuker Headless 6 which I brought over from NZ because it needed some work doing to it. Now that work has been done, it feels like its a part of me. Really nice action and string spacing and the neck since 2009 has relaxed a little so the thing growls a bit more. In the future, my self build may take over but we'll have to wait and see.
 22. I own a couple of their bass heads and a Pro501 1x12 combo which used to be owned by one of the guitarists in Lindisfarne. I normally use it with a Lexicon MPXG2 multi effects unit but never managed to get a satisfactory crunch out of it. However I recently saw this clip on youtube of a Pro2000 head being used with a power attenuator. Playing aside, the crunch alone made goosebumps stand up on the back of my neck. There are some interesting stories about Burman amps from those who have known Gregg personally too. http://basschat.co.u...urman-interview http://basschat.co.u...s-your-burmans/ Don't worry if you've shared it on another thread. Lets see what you've got!
 23. I don't own one but I've had an early 80's 1x12" Concert or Princeton on my Ebay watch list for quite some time. Has anyone else currently or previously owned a valve Fender and has photos?
