The problem with doing each fret is that its level will only be relative to its neighbours, not to the string. If you don't have low action, it probably won't matter though. But a flat beam will ensure a more consistent result .

140w into a 2x12 cab of 103db sensitivity is perfectly adequate for pub gigs in my experience. Just keep the drummer under control and castrate the guitarist.

Crowning the fret means less pressure is needed to make clean string contact. Also fret levelling is normally done with carborundrum abrasive paper stuck to a straight edge, not a fret file. Crowning fret files are cheap too - less than the straight edge. If you like low action, you'll be better off getting a straight edge that can slip under the strings while the neck is in tension.

Traynor are superb value. Otherwise, look for a Mesa Boogie Bass 400+ or a Buster combo but be prepared for a huge wait/weight (aha). Herbie talked about this specific issue after buying me a pint. He gets visibly irritated when people challenge him over the date...as if he's lying or something. Whatever the books or theory says, if the man bought it in 59, then as far as I and he are concerned, he bought it in 59. He isn't comfortable with the idea that its a prototype either. It was an off the shelf purchase and that's all there is to his story. I see where he's coming from. Why Fender would want to ship a prototype from Fullerton to New York when they could have sold it in LA is anyone's guess and seems implausible. Maybe Fender started making them in 1959 and someone forgot to tell the authorities.

There used to be some by BK Electronics which weren't available for a while due to a manufacturer no longer offering one of the components. But I did a search last month and discovered many more suppliers have cropped up in the last few years. I also had a look at the bracing in fEARful cabs and it seems to be done using a couple of posts rather than a grid of ply stiffeners...?

Its a toss up between two at the moment and potentially between three. My main go to bass has been a Spector NS5CR - just the right amount of warmth and lots of growl. However, thats in NZ, so my real go to bass has been the Shuker Headless 6 which I brought over from NZ because it needed some work doing to it. Now that work has been done, it feels like its a part of me. Really nice action and string spacing and the neck since 2009 has relaxed a little so the thing growls a bit more. In the future, my self build may take over but we'll have to wait and see.

I own a couple of their bass heads and a Pro501 1x12 combo which used to be owned by one of the guitarists in Lindisfarne. I normally use it with a Lexicon MPXG2 multi effects unit but never managed to get a satisfactory crunch out of it. However I recently saw this clip on youtube of a Pro2000 head being used with a power attenuator. There are some interesting stories about Burman amps from those who have known Gregg personally too. I don't own one but I've had an early 80's 1x12" Concert or Princeton on my Ebay watch list for quite some time. Has anyone else currently or previously owned a valve Fender and has photos?
