1. Sorry Bob, once any information enters the public domain it could be made accessible to anyone regardless of whether they're known to us or trusted. Hope you understand.
2. There used to be some by BK Electronics which weren't available for a while due to a manufacturer no longer offering one of the components. But I did a search last month and discovered many more suppliers have cropped up in the last few years. I also had a look at the bracing in fEARful cabs and it seems to be done using a couple of posts rather than a grid of ply stiffeners...?
3. Its not just Fairy that can be used, either... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N6dNJwvpgEo http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wNbLntHDG9Q

5. Does anyone have a Super Champ?

7. Its a toss up between two at the moment and potentially between three. My main go to bass has been a Spector NS5CR - just the right amount of warmth and lots of growl. However, thats in NZ, so my real go to bass has been the Shuker Headless 6 which I brought over from NZ because it needed some work doing to it. Now that work has been done, it feels like its a part of me. Really nice action and string spacing and the neck since 2009 has relaxed a little so the thing growls a bit more. In the future, my self build may take over but we'll have to wait and see.
8. I own a couple of their bass heads and a Pro501 1x12 combo which used to be owned by one of the guitarists in Lindisfarne. I normally use it with a Lexicon MPXG2 multi effects unit but never managed to get a satisfactory crunch out of it. However I recently saw this clip on youtube of a Pro2000 head being used with a power attenuator. Playing aside, the crunch alone made goosebumps stand up on the back of my neck. There are some interesting stories about Burman amps from those who have known Gregg personally too. http://basschat.co.u...urman-interview http://basschat.co.u...s-your-burmans/ Don't worry if you've shared it on another thread. Lets see what you've got!
9. I don't own one but I've had an early 80's 1x12" Concert or Princeton on my Ebay watch list for quite some time. Has anyone else currently or previously owned a valve Fender and has photos?
10. I've been looking into these for a while and heard good things about the Wampler. The problem with listening to recordings is that they don't give much of an indication of the dynamics of shifting air. I love how real Fender amps have such chimey, scooped clean sounds and it's possible to feel some compression on the highs when the clean sound is at higher volume settings. That compression makes chord stabs so much more spanky-sounding and with a crybaby wah, I'd probably be in heaven. I'm guessing the Wampler (or any other modelling pedal) isn't going to replicate things to that degree. I'm really curious to know how it might sound in front of my Burman (which, is a fairly neutral sounding amp all things considered).
11. Well I'm sure others will come along. Even without the modifications (which were nothing short of butchery to such a fine instrument) it hardly had any flaming to the top.
12. So I went to collect it today and on inspection I walked away. The tremolo had graphtec saddles installed and the back had been routed for a Line6 variax circuit (not included). This wasn't a deal breaker. It was the crude corrugated blanking plate over where the hex socket would have been that hadn't been shown in the photos and the hacked out 5 position sliding switch. Bit of a shame really as the neck was sweet. Caveat emptor.
13. There is a lovely 7 string fretless Sei for sale at the Gallery.
14.
Nice... Is that a whammy up the back there? Is it the RM Pro that Yam used to fit?
Yes it is The trems seem to have a bit of respect on other forums.
15. As mentioned in my status update - a cherry red Yamaha MSG, as played by Alan Murphy when he was with Level 42. and others. One of Yamaha's most coveted instruments and easily the equivalent of a PRS in terms of build quality. I think the MSG's 335 derived body shape is prettier and this one comes with Seymour Duncans as factory fitted. This example isn't perfect, there's a tuner screw missing from the E string of the trem, two pickup screws missing from the bridge pickup and there's a cracked pickup surround. I've emailed Yamaha in Germany as they have a good reputation for response times and requested the parts. Normally, the asking price for these is between 700-1000 quid, I got mine for about half that mainly due to a 'rushed' listing. I'm inspecting and collecting on Sunday.
16. I saw a TV programme a while that that lamented the demise of guitar solos in pop songs over the last 20 years and credited John Mayer as making solos cool again. I can see parallels with the OP...only bass playing hasn't become cool again...yet.
17. I don't think it's possible to get a single valve amp that sounds like both a Fender and a Marshall without some power tube swapping. Marshalls generally run on EL38/EL34 and Fenders run on 6L6/6V6. But its possible to get modelling pedals these days that make an amp sound closer to either. So maybe go with an amp that sounds like a Fender and then get a pedal that adds Marshall dirt. For weight, Trace Elliot made some highly rated solid state combo amps back in the early 90's and they are dirt cheap now. They also made some great valve combo amps which can be had for around the 300-400 quid mark.
18. There's always a balance to strike between simplicity and accessibility. More sub forums means its easier for people to access the topic areas they're interested in. Also, most of those sub forums have been created by request of the membership. There will always be a minority of moaners for whom the sky isn't quite the right shade of pink and that's just the reality of forums. The guitarchat ones are only temporary.
19. Nice looking bass - at least from the oblique angles.
20.
Hmmm, well lets put it this way...I have never seen an antique Stradivarius violin with a graphite neck.
Nope... and I've never seen one with LED's either.
21.
I have a MusicMan Cutlass - which has a Modulus graphite neck fitted as standard. It is 30 years old. It has no problems.
I've owned three Cutlass basses and played two more with problems.
Really? I am a fan of Graphite - but don't see why wood wouldn't last as long as a composite if cared for.
Depends on the timeframe obviously...but I'm thinking 50-100 years...if a graphite neck was properly cared for too.
22. Traynor would be a good choice for those on a budget, most of the ones I've seen for sale have been in the US however. So some importing and voltage conversion may be needed.
23. Or get a buffer preamp installed with separate buffers for each pickup.
24.
I think you should do it anyway, if only for the probable very high entertainment potential.
Sometimes I think this is half the reason ANY forum gets popular...but even if we do got a tribe of brand snobs attempting to dominate, I'd expect the other members to keep them in check and isolate them...or put them on ignore...either way, starve them of the oxygen that attention and recognition provides. And if those brand snobs made a deliberate choice to keep going despite knowing they were having an adverse impact on the experiences of other members...well, pard'ner, I'd reckon that would be a mighty fine time for the mods to step in an' open up a can o' whoop ass... Yes sir...yes sireee. So why don't y'all pull up a rockin' chair, hack yourself a plug o' chewin' baccy and stay a while...
