    I've noticed many of the singing acts that get on Strictly are represented by the same publicity agent. Caro Emerald...don't make me laugh! And Radio 2 did exclusive programme deal withUniversal band U2, only for Lesley Douglas the controller to swan off to a job with them. So I have no doubt it's all corrupt!

    The perfect day - my birthday! Got a new bass at lunchtime (Squier 60s CV Precision), played it at night, support slot, home by 9 with a takeaway curry, Fulham on Match of the Day (last match again, but actually won away). Fantastic. And as for the bass, it's the best of the CV series, and I've owned em all. May even retire the old Fender...

    Laney 2x10 speaker cab rated at 120 watts 8 ohms. I put this under a combo to augment it and also bring the combo closer to my ear height! Woked well. Used but not abused, in very respectable condition. Bought from Basschatter. Originally £75. Final price drop to £50 collected.

    Series 6 (pre-Gibson) 1215 Trace bass combo rated at a very loud 200w. Have never had to turn master volume past 2.5. 15-inch speaker, original black 'pimple' covering is in great condition, has been well looked after by myself and original Basschat owner. Reliable and with a superb bass sound that can be tailored for any kind of musical style thanks to 12-band EQ. line out for a second speaker if you're playing Hammersmith Odeon!     In 1982 I was at the SMB soundcheck at the Hammy Odeon when Gerald failed to show (I was interviewing the drummer). I was cheekilyvgoing to suggest I stood in until I realised I couldn't play left-handed... Interviewed Miller years later and he recalled GJ had been stuck in traffic. He played bass on the soundcheck in the end
