  1. Have never used pedals and can't see the need. A Precision sound has never let me down, and iut doesn't need anything adding or subtracting, for rock and soul at least.
  2. Did a guitar exchange with this fella. You may need Satnav to find him (or a Birmingham road map) but you will get a warm welcome. He is knowledgeable about both guitars and basses and is very straightforward to deal with. We'll have that curry next time mate!
  3. Acoustic (gigged twice) Fretless (never gigged) Fretted (all but two!)
  4. 'The creative process is just the start and obviously comes second to the profit imperative.'\ You missed out 'going forward...'
  5. I think the whole thing of basing your song on another's shows total lack of imagination (having a pop at Rihanna and her puppetmasters, not you!)
  6. Wish you'd shown me this when we met, mate - I might have nicked it, dog permitting! I'm not normally a Rick man but this might be an exception... M
  7. I got in bands on my songwriting, rather than my guitar playing. Since I took up bass, I've stopped writing songs!
  8. Indeed, 4000 is right. I have a 301 Fretless which is a doozy of a bass.
  9. Please delete - will post later!
  10. Short answer is yes. But I don't slap or pop!
  11. That's weird MB1 - I was going to post abut (the late) Charlie yesterday. He is on my Whistle Test Vol 3 DVD with a Tele bass with Jazz style pickups. Looks like a factory job with the scratchplate etc. But when, if ever, did Fender make a Tele JJ?
  12. Our drummer was recording with his 'other' band so we were invited along for an evening 'session' as they were having friends round for a party. Having found the studio in the middle of nowhere, I was told that his band's singer had done his throat during the day's recording and they would not be playing. Hung around two hours for our singer to show, then found the assembled multitude didn't want to listen to us anyway! To add insult to injury the (worse for drink) studio owner started loudly f***ing about with my bass/rig without permission which resulted in a serious eyeball to eyeball exchange of views. Trouble is my bandmates now want to record with this joker... It was a gig, Jim,but not as we know it.
  13. I have a 71 Precision (in avatar) and I've never played one better. Some people tell me it has a Jazz-style neck. I never thought it slim until I acquired a Stingray!
  14. Just caught the first hour on Sky of this 2005 show of Eric Clapton, Gary Brooker and friends playing a charity gig for a load of Hooray Henry/ettas. Guests: Ringo, Roger taylor, Katie M*lua (yuk), etc, etc. And the star of the show for me is - Dave Bronze. What a fantastically tasteful bassman. Maybe we should have a thread for underrated bass players. And he plays a Precision a bit like mine!
  15. I saw this in Denmark Street a week or so ago and posted. Looked tatty close up, and with the replaced tuners I was not tempted.
  16. We decided on Funky Claude*. Googled it and there was a band of that name in Australia. We are now Funkee Clawed...with a cat as our logo! A prize to any pub that spells the name correctly. * Deep Purple fans will recognise!
  17. Down Clarky! (And no, I don't think it's Heather Mills - she comes with the Rickenbacker)
