I guess that depends on (a) how I do and ( if Will is out of hospital and able to play. Not in that order! Otherwise, I'll be dancing around behind the merch stall again. And yes, Chris, A Hard Way to Live is the last number. My favourite is Map of India: 'I got a map of India on my wall Some of us got dreams left and some of us got nothing at all And me I don't know which side of the wall I fall'. M

If you're in S Wales, please come and see this BCer doing the biggest gig of his life deputising for Iceberg's bass player who's been hospitalised (get well soon, Will ). We're supporting Nik Turner's Space Ritual on Thursday 8th. Oh, and Deke has always been my musical hero, so I'm on cloud 9 right now! From merchandise seller to bassist in one fell swoop...

A fireworks party at a pub...unil they were forbidden to do the Fireworks by Health and Safety! What is the world coming to? V unpopular with the band by announcing 'Hard To Handle' (which they all hate, and was not onthe set list) as an encore, then congratulated when the pub went wild!

You don't see many of these around – a fabulous-looking none more black bass by Archer with a space-age bridge, a Jazz-style neck and active P/J pickup configuration. Makes you feel like a rock star even if you patently don't look like one (see pic!) String through body design; transculcent black finish on ash body, with maple/rosewood neck, pearloid KS on headstock and a signature inlaid in twelfth fret. Have only owned for a few months but expensive kids at University necessitates that last in is first out. If interested I can send close-up pics; haven't had the heart to take any yet! Well, we did the gig to 25 people. But pmly just. I nearly chinned some bearded weirdo in an Engerlund shirt who came in from the other bar and interrupted our soundcheck with a demand we turn down. When I said we had our audience to entertain, he snorted and said 'it's a national thing'. Glad they lost!

Yeah, my band are playing in Alton. We have invited a lot of girls to make up the numbers! There's a big screen in the other bar so we're hoping we might get away with it. Failing that, drinks are included in our fee! We'll just have to drown our sorrows... PS I hate rugby!

Cetera The Archer has only been in my possession a few weeks but it seems a goodie. Bought it on Kasim Sulton's rep cos I'd never heard of Archer (and I still don't know where it was made) but it is a very playable active P/J with P shape neck which looks good too. I may do a review of it as it's not on Harmony Central or anything. Only downside is a black neck with small white position dots. You don't realise how much you rely on the visual until the spot on your side of the stage falls off in mid song! Oh, and the rest of the band liked it (which is a first!)

Since buying my Trace combo from a fellow BWer I couldn't be happier amp-wise. I never use effects. But as far as basses go, I seem to have to go through the card! In the past year I've had CIJ Precision '51, Warwick Streamer 5, MM Sub, Epiphone Thunderbird and Archer Kasim Sulton signature. Would never sell my '73 Precision though. It's the one I always come back to. Like the wife

Just had a vet's bill which necessitates the last bass in should be first out. It's dark sunburst with the white scratchplate, in very good nick indeed (I suspect under a year old) and now has straplocks - essential when playing one of these. I never had the chance to gig it, but on the evidence of rehearsals turning both pickups and tone up achieves the requiste rumble. And I'm amazed at the build quality. Not only good looking but solid. Will put a pic up later, but just thought if anyone in the SE is interested I could bring it to Saturday's bash. Looking for £150.
