1. Sorry, that does absolutely nothing for me. Give me the pre-CBS ironing board... but each to their own!
2. What the eck is a Howlett? Since you converted me i am on my third Ukebass...an Ashbury with metal stri ngs.
3. Smooth transaction re amp head. Thanks, Ryan. M
4. Smooth transaction re a speakon lead. Thanks!
5. One of these is my current go-to. Same colour too. Fabulous instruments - GLWTS!
6. Pointless fact: he used to work for Lloyds Bank!
7. Picked up a Barefaced Super Compact this week thanks to a kindly tipoff on this forum. I intend using this on its own as a more compact replacement for the MarkBass CMD102P that has served me well for several years (if you want to know the truth, it won't quite fit in the boot of our new car...d'oh!). So what do I need to get the best out of my sparkly new speaker? My two projects are: (1) classic rock four-piece including keyboards; I use a Jazz for this. (2) Motown/blues trio, for which I use a Precision and do a lot more bottom-end playing. Any steers as to power and make of potential amp acquisitions, plus reasoning for an ignoramus like me, are welcomed!
8. I hated playing without a drummer in the bluegrass quintet I was briefly with. Unless someone else is a rhythm player you're swimming against the tide.
9. UB40 technically covered a reggae version by Tony Tribe, Jack. Can't recall the orig either but Diamond plays it reggae style now while counting his royalties
10.
He's played for lots of people, including Nick Heyward...
Theres a Top of the Pops where the pair appear together - curiously, no band. Whistle Down The Wind, as I recall.
11. Seen one at 299 in a shop. Was described to me as Fender MIM build standard, but admittedly i didnt try it myself.
12. Ed Sheeran is the new Nick Heyward, then!
13. For the price it is hard to beat but i have found the Countryman a pleasanter instrument, albeit at a greater cost.
14. Love this thread! I offer Welsh prog-rockets Quicksand (only album Home is Where I Belong reissued a few years ago by Esoteric Recordings). Come to think of it these are all esoteric recordings!
15. Mind you isn't your first video song Derek and the Dominos? Sheesh, bloody covers bands👿
16.
Great band. Super version of this Bonnie Rait tune. http://youtu.be/2OIAURQLnMI
Hate to be picky but John Prine wrote it. Good song.
17.
Side note. What are peoples experience with steel strings on U basses? Is it worth just sticking with the rubber(y) ones?
Have seen/heard these demoed. Sound then becomes electric bass-like, making size your only advantage. No double bass sound remains, so would not do it myself..
18.
What is line up ?
Deborah Bonham's band.
19.
How much better would you say a countryman is compared to a HB?
Fit and finish far superior, plus the body is rather smaller which adds to portability. Sound, probably not a whole lot in it. Also (irrelevant I know) HB was fretless and I prefer fretted.
20. I graduated from HB to countryman- a good value compromise. I would recommend; played that at a jazz club recently and wiped smirks off faces!
