1. Sorry for Dave Ling, news editor, whose idea it was.
2. I owned an Ibanez Les Paul copy that was indistinguishable from the real thing. (1979).
3. Now there's a Grand De-Sign!
4. I have joined a band called Acoustic Union. Like the band better than the name. Especially as I play a Jazz Bass...
5. When I backed a reggae singer I was complimented by someone whose opinion I respect for using a Precision with tone rolled off through my Markbass combo with all controls at more or less neutral. Two or three notches of VLE added. For what it's worth! I love threads like this...
6.
... if anybody feels like heading down to support us
I thought you were supporting them... Break a leg, v jealous!
7. You never lose it, I find. Which is weird as some of us never had it in the first place! Welcome, sir.
8. Yorks 5Stringer is your man. Saw him playing one a couple of weeks ago...
9. There's a Bass Collection Jazz on sale in this very forum ...
10. The more his Vocals became intelligible, the less interesting they became. Radio Free Europe? Hell yeah!
11. Bill may have been a member but they didn't treat him too well...
12. Yes, he and his former band - recently defunct - are so underrated!
13. The perfect seller, what can I say? Gear was like new. deal with confidence.
14. I wrote a book on him once. I had told the publisher I fancied writing about Cat Stevens... it didn't sell! 😢
15. Would love the Who Jack Bruce and Santana please. Mick
16. Fabulous!
17. Fame studios is in the middle of a shopping plaza - seems quite surreal. And Muscle Shoals Sound Studios is in a trading estate - dunno what I expected to see, but...
18. Thanks Mike for funking up my Friday!
19. This is the most enjoyable track I have ever played live... the feeling of exhilaration once you nail it is worth the effort.
20. My EB-3L with flats sounds and plays in the Fraser ballpark - though of course from your original post Boz Burrell played an Ampeg (in the beginning) and JPJ a Jazz (ditto). That said, saw someone playing a Telecaster bass with mud bucker last week that sounded very Gibson-y.
21. We used to use kazoos instead of the horn section - it didn't work ;(
22. Seem to recall rating the original bass player - Mark Lickley (?)
23. He's got a bit of trouble and strife in his vineyard... http://www.sunderlandecho.com/whats-on/music/sting-saddened-and-distressed-by-reports-of-illegal-immigrants-working-on-his-luxury-estate-1-8183170
