no, doesnt interest me at all, i play what sounds good and often get complimented on my unusual writing style, if i knew what i was doing im pretty sure that wouldnt happen anymore.
-
if it was me i would just get a 6x10, i have used that exact config and it is awesome.

this thread has inspired me to dig out my old thunder 1a from the loft, it has been defretted in a very messy way so im thinking with a little work i might become an 8 string (octave obviously), throw in some strenghening rods, a new fretboard, leds and a schaller 8 string fully adjustable bridge that i just happen to have lying around and one of these to top it all off =1&tx_smtdelano_pi1[series]=14&tx_smtdelano_pi1[strings]=5&tx_smtdelano_pi1[system]=84"]TheXtender 4 HE
We've been using http://www.shure5studios.co.uk/ for the last 5 or 6 months, coming from an old fashioned dive. It's not perfect yet, but it's being developed week in week out.
Cheers that looks like it might fit the bill

chevin research A1000 or A500, loads of power, nice and efficient too and fairly lightweight, they were very expensive new but occasionally come up cheap. very good quality amps, by far the best i have ever used for bass, especially considering the weight there is an A500 on ebay now, if i was closer i would be all over it. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/CHEVIN-RESEARCH-A500-Linear-Amp-/301132599490?pt=UK_BOI_Industrial_Automation_Control_ET&hash=item461ce6d0c2

Which P Bass Bridge Pickup and Why?
winterfire666 replied to discreet's topic in Repairs and Technical
Yes, that is something I'm keen to avoid. Thanks.
the seymour duncan hot stack is great for avoiding the noise or if you are feeling adventurous go for another split p, the seymour duncan sbp-3 in the bridge position sounds great although i think it is best not too close to the bridge.(after extensive testing) this is similar to the config i have specced up for my incoming custom -
i played a sonus 5 a few years ago, it was wonderfull and i was offered it at a stupid knock down price too, if it was a 4 i would have snapped it up but im not really a 5 string kind of guy and wasnt keen on the finish. Amazing sound though, warm and organic not like other graphite basses i have played.

I have one, i mainly use it for studio work and honestly it the best piece of gear i own by far. remember it will only sound as good as the profiles in it and there are a proper mixed bag of bass profiles to download online, with the right profiles for you its can be the best sounding most versatile rig possible (without a massive rack) the only reason i dont use it live is that i got one before the power rack versions were available and so i would need a seperate power amp, that bieng said it sounds awesome with my tc rh750 flat into a barefaced super 12t, just as good as in the studio. the new bass updates are very good but i havent had much of a play yet as i have been busy recently, although the dual signal path hing works amazingly well. in brief, sound quality is top notch, patch changing is flawless with no noticable delay. it certainly is not lacking in any way, if i had the powered version i wouldnt hesitate on geting rid of my tc amp (which i love) i did post a review some time ago in the gear reviews section. i will update it with the newer features when i get a chance. if you have any specific questions just ask and i will be happy to try to answer, its a shame you dont live closer you could have popped in for a play.

worst amp you have owned or had the luck to use
winterfire666 replied to stu_g's topic in Amps and Cabs
i dont care who uses em, Ashdowns Suck! (imho i would rather cut off my own gentleman's part with a rusty breadknife than use one, they just aint for me) im not keen on some of the cheaper laneys but they do make some great gear, the nexus tube amp is great and the B1/B2 were superb, the B2 in fact i reckon was by far the best combo i have ever used. i agree about line 6 amps, very unresponsive to dynamics. -
ill have to follow this one, i have been thinkin about adding one of these to the bands live gear for a while, any experience/info/toughts would be great.

this is pretty interesting, a little slow but interesting none the less, and its nice to see steps are bieng made to conserve rare hardwoods. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=anCGvfsBoFY&feature=youtu.be

if you find one wih the seymour duncans grab it, they sound a hell of a lot better than the others, perfect for rock and metal :^)
-
i tried the one with the seymour duncan 1/4 lbers , cant remember the model number but it was a pj and around £330 , it was awesome, great action/playability and sounded massive too, if i was looking for a cheap backup bass that would be it.
Q to winterfire666; did you choose the reverse P configuration due to the depth of the neck pocket (possible problems with siting the EA split pickup in a conventional P bass manner) or because you prefer the reward placement with more harmonic content nearer the bridge?
the second one to some extent but i also find that as the thinner strings have a lower mass i find the volume constsistancy across all 4 strings is more balanced

[sharedmedia=core:attachments:140265] im goin for something like this in my xylem custom build, a little unusual but its gonna be epic. i selected the positions after lots of experimenting with different positions and pickup variations so i know more or less what they will sound like individually. i really dislike a p pickup too near the bridge i find them unusable on their own . inlays done, im really looking forward to seeing how the heel joint comes along when it is put together, anthony at xylem basses really knows what he is doin in this department. the build diary on the xylem website has more pics uploaded too http://www.xylembassguitar.com/hewitt-bass-construction.html
