I play metal and used to use a swr 4x10 and 1x18 which was great but I switched to a barefaced super 12t (2x12 +hf) it was the best move ever sound wise, the bottom is clearer and tighter the mids are more prominent in a good way and the top end zing is crystal clear. It's easily as loud too if not louder. I do still occasionally yearn after a big stack again, just because big looks cool but every time I plug in that soon dissapears. Worth thinking about maybe :^)

haha it did sound great, if you want to borrow it again for a proper play just give me a shout, i used a marshall 8x10 on the sunday after that gig and i wasnt happy, hte clarity and definition just wasn't there. Barefaced all the way :^)

i used to get finger sores regularly, i stopped using nickel strings and it has never happened since, could be coincidence but i like the zingy sound of stainless anyway and i have heard of people having an aversion to nickel in the past.

i would love to see a real life A/B comparison against a conventional rig. 2x subs + 2x tops vs 2x Fr800, im really tempted by a new rig but its a lot of cash to fork out, if it stacks up though it would be a real bargain comparatively.

i use a rh750 with a super 12t and it does everything i could want it to do with a little eq. great cabs, i wouldnt trade mine for anything.

Basses In/Basses Out 2014 - And What You've Learned......
winterfire666 replied to spongebob's topic in General Discussion
OUT: Palm bay pacific 4 string (or was it the atlantic? i always mix em up) IN: Xylem 'yggdrasil' 4 string line 6 G30 (not a bass but new never the less) What ive learned......... The g30 really is a great piece of kit and thoroughly idiot proof too, just like a cable........ without the cable. upon receiving my first custom bass i was concerned over the price, playability and value for money, especially when seeing how many custom creations change hands on this very forum. but get it right and it really is worth every penny. I cant recommend Xylem basses enough, if you are interested in one, don't be put off by the price or wait, it really is worth it. Also you shouldnt necessarily bother using a big stack of cabs just because they are there. -

New Kemper Profiling amp on its way !!!
winterfire666 replied to cliffyspliff's topic in Amps and Cabs
iv had a kemper for ages, when profiling i can honestly say you cannot tell the original from the profile (on a recorded track) no bottom end is lost.also the latest update includes a great selection of bass rigs, i dont have the powered version as it hadnt been released when i got mine but it sounds epic using my rh750 as a power amp into a s12t. -
those chevins are great amps, my go to choice for a bass rig, i used to have an a1000 in my rack and it was wonderfull
-
tune down, heavier gauge strings, no mids. and a decent drive pedal (not too much gain), not my cup of tea but that should do it i know someone who used a ibanez phat hed PD7 drive pedal to achieve this kind of sound years ago and he pretty much nailed it
If you send us exact measurements we can try and set up a bass as close as possible to the same size and measure for you Edit - we did this recently for someone with an extended Alembic and discovered that the only thing that worked was a Hiscox abs case.
thanks ill measure up later and send you an email :^)

Which lightweight power amp to pair with a valve preamp?
winterfire666 replied to Freddie75's topic in Amps and Cabs
Chevin research -
I really want to try a vertigo out for size before buying as my xylem has unusual proportions, our guitarist uses em and they are great quality, compact and lightweight. Definitely worth the cash in my opinion. I just don't wanna fork out for one if it might not fit my bass.

what amp do you use with your Barefaced super 12T
winterfire666 replied to Kevin Dean's topic in Amps and Cabs
I use the Glockenklang Blue Soul with the S12T. Sounds good.
i would love to hear that -
i really wanna see one of these 2x10's especially with the tolex finish............hmmm its got me thinking now, my S12t would look epic in Blue Tolex, a little awkward because of the porting but doable.

i use New moon insurance the premiums are great and the cover seems very comprehensive (even in the small print) although luckily i have not had to claim. i dont remember all the details but it covers me worldwide and at the time of me looking it looked like the best cover by far for the money. i did loads of research too as i needed good cover for my custom Xylem.

i had a obp-2 in an old bass it was awesome, one of the best preamps i have used, simple and sounds great if you are after a 2 band, never tried the 3 though. iv gone all passive now so i still have it lying about spare at the moment, if you are looking for a used one give me a shout.
We have music available from bandcamp and while it's a useful resource, IMO it's all a bit too "indie Ghetto" for a lot of people.
i have bandcamp account as the codes are really handy for promotional uses but i agree it looks more professional to use amazon/itunes and has the potential to reach a larger audience. i have found after talking to a lot of people that as good as bandcamp is, feature wise, most people who don't play music or haven't been in a band have never heard of it. -

winterfire666 replied to winterfire666's topic in General Discussion
thanks for the input folks, certainly got a bit to think about. i definitely think that if people like it then they would be happy to pay something rather than just expecting it for free, its just a matter of getting it heard in the first place. we have a couple of weeks untill the cds arrive so ill be mulling it over untill then. luckily since i have footed all the costs personally its pretty much up to me, so no band arguments over this one are allowed :^) -
ooohhh a blackstar all valve bass head, that would be something.
