Believe me I would never do that, I like helping. As for OS I would recommend the new version of AVL Linux, it comes pre-configured with most of the stuff you would need in an nice and neat package that works out of the box. Drumgizmo is very good but the kits tend to be massive and consumes a lot of resources (unless you have a very good computer). i have had very good results using AVL Drumkits and SFZ kits (even better using Carla as the SFZ loader). Just msg me when you are ready and poke around the Reaper Linux forum, there are lots of nice guys there too (I'm assuming you are using Reaper).

Do yourself a favour and download these two synths, they are the only 2 you'll ever need: - Surge (Free, well made and comes with tons of presets) https://surge-synthesizer.github.io/ - Vital (Another great one with a free version and tons of presets) https://vital.audio/

I have an old computer with AV Linux in it which I use for some recording and mixing. I even use a good amount of Windows plugins and have no issues. If you need any help message me and I can help you. if you use Reaper, it works great in native mode. there are other options (Ardour, Mixbus, Waveform, etc..) that work very well too. BTW Reaper for Linux now supports LV2 plugins which means you can use AVL Drumkits (2 kits with multi-output) and you can use SFZ libraries too. MT-Powerdrumkit works very well too and SSD5.5 works too.

Goodness there's a lot of assuming based on outdated information. There are a lot of people using Linux right now for graphics, video and audio. maybe they are not the majority but Linux has grown a lot since those days. Same as your assumptions about Reaper; the only I can agree is the fact that Reaper doesn't come packaged with tons of fancy plugins (Amp sims, Instruments, etc..) but with the money you have left after paying for your license you still have enough to buy your favourite instruments, amp sims and other fancy plugins. I'm positive that after that the total expense will be cheaper than a Logic or a Cubase License.

Never tried any of those but it does have a different sound than any other DAW. There's a blind test against Reaper where you can hear the difference in sound. Here are the results of the blind test, just bypass the early rant and jump to 3:30 for the reveal and see if you could find the difference:

Guys this is a way to get a massive discount on Kontakt. it normally goes for $359 and with this you can get it for $224. just follow the instructions and save some money. https://audioplugin.deals/blog/get-kontakt-cheap/?utm_source=APD+Subscribers&utm_campaign=191fc00ade-kontakt_cheap_blog_campaign&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_766211a9e5-191fc00ade-39689581&ct=t(kontakt_cheap_blog_campaign)&mc_cid=191fc00ade&mc_eid=ca43408edb

What people are doing (including me) is tracking in other DAW (Reaper in my case) then doing the common cleaning of tracks and initial EQ (Subtractive) then exporting to Mixbus and finish the mixing there. In reality it does sound different and more open than any other daw.

Yeah, try them and if they don't show a small screen sending you to their shop then it is part of the T-Racks CS bundle. From the top of my head you have: - Classic Compressor - Classic EQ - Classic Optical Compressor - Classic Quad Comp (multiband compressor) - Classic Quad Lim (multiband limiter) - Classic Clipper - EQP 1A - Pultec EQ - Linear Phase EQ - Brickwall Limiter Check them out they are great additions to your toolbox.
-
Well I have learned that there's not such thing as too many compressors and there are a couple of them that could get you a different flavour. Good Luck.
-
yes it is a bit stupid from IK Multimedia but that's how they do things unfortunately. Try all of them, make a list of the ones that tell you you can't use and delete them. It seems you downloaded the T-Racks free version. there are some free gems there (Optical compressor, Classic compressor, Classic EQ and some other).
-
You can always manually delete the files you don't need. I did that and still everything else works just fine.
-
I think they send you your activation code by email and then you just download it from IK Multimedia. then you activate it using the code.

Nice one, not many Kontakt player compatible freebies. Thanks
-
Nice one, that will get you as close as you can be. BTW if you're getting a plugin in this Black Friday I would recommend you get this one, this will take care of gain staging over a considerable number of tracks in no time. At that price it would be criminal not getting it. https://www.hornetplugins.com/plugins/hornet-vu-meter-mk4/
-
I can only advise to make it as flat as possible and use a lot of references to make your mix as close to whatever your reference track is. Like I said it will never be ideal because a well treat room cost a lot and we usually do not have the space to create such room. I think that package you are buying comes with both (room and headphones) so I would then get the CanOpener to test my mixes with headphones, that will take it close to your speakers and will give you more points of reference (with CO and without). That's what I would do.
-
Only headphones, if you're talking about monitors then Sonarworks is the best way to go, cheaper than IK Multimedia and still gives you great results. The issue is that no matter what room you have the calibration will ensure your monitors will operate at the flattest possible. It's not ideal but there's no such thing when you have a home recording or small studio environment.
-
I used them for 9 months (Free from Focusrite) and I liked it. Now to be honest you can do better work with Morphit paired with CanOpener. End up cheaper and your mixes will come out better as CanOpener do the crosstalk that happens with real speakers. https://www.toneboosters.com/tb_morphit_v1.html https://goodhertz.co/canopener-studio/ BTW I'm talking about headphones here.
