  1. Unless you're left handed, they're about £2100 new. Go second hand then they don't get your money and you can flog it probably for what you paid for it if you hate it.
  2. I thought about getting a fake, then I realised that went against my artistic principles. I think I've been lucky in getting a good one as quite a few of the ones I've played previously, weren't great at all.
  3. Here we go. It's really good fun. Did the stereo recording the other day. Great sound. Lots of bite.
  4. Funnily enough, I actually went to the dark side and got one the other day. Neck is quite shallow in comparison to others I've played, but my only gripe is the bridge won't let me get the action quite as supernaturally low as I would like. So far nothing has fallen off or failed so I guess I'm lucky that I've got one that isn't a "Friday special."
  5. Of course they can. However raw active bass generally sounds crap which is why I won't agree to it. Furthermore, ever heard an Alembic pre DI'd then cut at 800hz? No? You shouldn't want to either. However, my general disdain for the approach of some live sound engineer's is something for another thread. Using effects? Oh well, pity that won't get transmitted to the audience then. In other news, I'm considering new cabs and Bass Direct are in the running to get my cash. As you were.
  6. Lucky you. The number of times I've got into "heated debate" about my refusal to do that is almost beyond counting. I'll never, ever give the sound guy a pre eq so that they can cut off anything over 1khz and turn my tone into sludge. Happened a few times many years ago. Never again.
  7. Every single Dingwall I've ever played has been amazing. I was sceptical on the fanned frets but after playing one I realised it didn't make any difference to me at all.
  8. To add a slightly different view of the Peavey ipr1600. I had one in my bass rig. There was no way it was 600w per side. The thing clipped very, very early. 300w, yeah, but not 600w. Rather frustratingly, it broke twice. Peavey fixed it and the 2nd time they put in the board from the 2nd generation of them. I didn't trust it for my rig so it now powers the PA in my studio. The other thing that grated was it has a switch on the back to high pass the signal at 120hz. Even with it off, I felt like normal wasn't that much lower. The difference was very apparent when tons of bass was added in when I got my Yamaha power amp. My rig is midi controlled so it was the same settings. I might have just been unlucky, but it was quite irritating at the time. I hasten to say that I haven't had any problems since they gave me the updated board and that's 3 years ago or so.
  9. Yeah. I like everything being slightly quieter.
  10. I used to use the 15s. Nowadays, I use the 27s. They're brilliant and totally worth the money.
  11. Sack him and get someone better. Nobody needs to put up with that.
  12. This has just put me off getting a Bergantino cab as I was considering them.
  13. Maybe one day Blue will leave his current band and we won't see these threads every 2 months and he'll be a regular poster in Jack's "auditions in hell" thread instead.
  14. In years gone by, people might have seen their own blood for stuff like this. However, as I've mellowed with age, I realise that some things aren't worth the hassle. If this is an originals band, I'd have left well before this stage occurred. However, my response to this conundrum is still the same "Go f@?k yourself" now as it would have been then. There just wouldn't be anyone getting chinned for it nowadays so I guess that's progress.
  15. I used a Roland PK6 with a Moog Slim Phatty in one of my last bands. It does take a certain level of concentration to play bass whilst standing on one leg and playing pedals with the other. Bottom line is if you don't read a manual or don't like programming stuff, this isn't for you.
  16. This is what I'm using with my Wal. Front pickup on 10, bridge pickup pulled and on 7.
  17. I use a Korg dtr2000. It's brilliant.
  18. I've only had a chance to try it with my 50s precision so far. Certainly to me, the mid scoop is very evident at almost any dirty setting, but it's only one bass. Might need a bit of pre or post eq to fix. As I say, it's only one bass and I'll know a lot more when I try a few of the others. Brutal though and absolutely insane to boot.
  19. 70 feet from my back door in my studio. Sod paying to rehearse or record again!
  20. If it works for you squire I'm happy for you. You have an amp you like. Everyone's needs are different. I just think the wattage has been cooked up as I tried it against my Hartke HA5500. That was much, much louder and it's only 500w by comparison. Personally, I think it's a 300w amp as you have to redline it to get some volume out of it.
  21. It has landed! After the unfortunate situation where yesterday's postman had to take retirement on medical grounds (mainly due to him not being medically alive for his gross failure of duty), today's replacement postman handed me a package hoping to placate my all consuming thirst for distortion pedals. So, here we are. The smallest pedal I've ever seen with so many controls. Plus my new rizla box. Maybe. Thanks to Darren for sorting this out. Will be having a play later today after I get my alibi sorted for yesterday with my legal team.
  22. That's why I was confused as to why there wasn't an Entwistle setting as that's the sound I'm expecting under certain settings. Lead bass.
  23. Well, my postman has just been. Nothing. I ran out of my front door kicking him to the ground shouting "Where's my pedal motherf@cker!!" When he whimpered that he didn't know what I was talking about through trying to stem the bloodflow from his broken nose, I took out my lead cosh and started..... Well, I'd best leave it there until I get a lawyer......
  24. At least you'll be able to sleep by the door for when it arrives.
  25. I look forward to the free watch that comes with it!!
