I played through the ultra version at the bass show in Saturday. I thought it was brilliant. I would say as well on an unrelated note, I was one of the first people in on Saturday and as such played the darkglass stuff while the place was quiet. The cabs are good. I tried a lot of permutations of fx and and settings and the vast majority of them sounded good. On the other hand, I was playing a dingwall, so stuff should sound good. It was also quite funny that the two said to me it was refreshing that I didn't immediately start slapping. I started playing something I was working on. "Tool isn't it?" No, that was me actually, I said. I've always liked darkglass stuff and for the sorts of things I do now it works perfectly. Then again, it should as I'm their target "progressive metal" bass player. I had a word about midi and they said they would see. Hopefully, but they seemed to suggest that I was in the minority wanting such functionality. That's a pity, but still, really good cakes.

True. That which cannot be named. On a serious level though, how many are they going to sell at those prices? How did we get to the point where that was even remotely okay? Naturally if one could get away with it you'd continue, but it's still way too expensive. I find it funny that people moaned about Alex putting his prices up but yet they're nowhere close to this nonsense and nobody seems to bat an eye.

Let's be fair, at £1760 for a 4x10 and (if memory serves) almost £900 for a 1x12, I'm pretty sure Aguilar can afford to be there. What I thought was especially funny was that if you walked 2 stands along, Peavey were selling their 4x10 for £350. Five times better? I doubt it is, but that pricing is tonto. Nobody with any sanity will pay that much. Aguilar are now having a laugh.

That guy is a world class tool. I hadn't been aware of YouTube idiots as I never really watch things like this, but, a tool who plays variations of the same 5 slap licks is nothing more than he is at least on cursory glance. I'm happy to avoid it. However on a lighter note as he's known as Davie504, it does conjure up images of science fiction dystopia where people don't have full names and have bar codes tattooed on their arms. I seem to have went off reservation there, but seriously, if anyone uses that idea, I want royalties.

Ashdown Mibass 2.0. Big problem (Resolved)...
Wolverinebass replied to itsmedunc's topic in General Discussion
If the amp doesn't go to 2.6 ohms wouldn't it be reasonably likely? 8 ohm and 4 ohm cabs creating undue stress on the amplifier. Still, Ashdown are giving a very curious response to this. One that there is no way I'd be taking. -
Ashdown Mibass 2.0. Big problem (Resolved)...

That's some of the best crap I've read in a long time. "We've made a mistake which could have blown up your amp. Pity..... However, if you give us some cash and swallow our immensely condescending comments, we can fix this terrible problem for you which had nothing to do with us" Pfft. Jog on. -
Fixed for you squire. 😜
-
Superb! Really nice playing squire.
-
That's brilliant! What's it made of? I can't quite tell from the photo.
-
That is absolutely outrageous! I'd certainly be intrigued to hear how you get on with it. Also if it's really 1000w or they've cooked the books and it's only 400.
-
Pity, if you did sell them, I'm sure you'd have the Bentley on order! 😉 I just don't think it's a good enough reply. As you say, I'm sure they'd sort out the inherent issue by putting a better bridge on if you asked. Everyone changes string gauge and type occasionally. With that bass you'd be stuffed if you did that. Still, it does look fantastic!
-
Try slapping on a 12! That's Tonto!
-
Because the slot is pre cut and can't be altered, that means that even if it intonated properly, you'd be locked into that gauge of strings they strung it with when they set it! It's bonkers and I'm not buying that.
-
You don't need the money to find out. It's obvious. The bridge is a singular saddle. Once you get past the 7th fret it'll be out of tune by miles. For such an expensive instrument it's an epic fail.
-
That's not bad. Four grand for a bass that won't intonate properly. Hold me back.....
-
Are you still with that band? Sounds to me like they weren't paying any attention to what you were doing. Tools.
-
Warmoth.
-
Yeah, it's not cheap. That's because if you exclude the Warwick bridge which can be sunk into the body, it's easily the best as you can adjust the height of all 8 strings individually. I don't think the Warwick allows that. Every manufacturer uses the same non descript bridge just for cost rather than functionality. The Schaller is a really great bit of kit. Happy to post a few photos of mine if you're interested.
-
Schaller 471. That's it. As far as I'm aware no production bass uses it. They all use the same generic 8 saddle that the Dean, Spector, Schecter all use. Unless you go custom, you won't see it on anything. Don't bother with the Hagstrom. It's a 4 saddle bridge and is total crap.
-
It depends on what criteria you want to make your choice on. I'd imagine the schecter other than being a through neck won't be that much different to the spector. The Warwick is probably the best due the bridge and nut adjustment available, but if the single coil pickups bother you then it's not for you. Having played most of them, the esp has the best neck and shape. But it's a basswood body. If you do go with that, get them to confirm its a post 2014 model as prior to that they had a 4 saddle bridge. The spector is good, but the pre-amp is horrible. It depends what you want. Most will need some form of upgrade in terms of pickups or pre-amp, but that's only my opinion. Just put yourself out of your misery and buy one!! 😋

If you're using Android. Click on the photo which expands. Click it again to make it fill the screen. At the top right there is the share symbol. Click that then the first option is save to gallery. Job done.

@Al Krow I could have shown you why that doesn't work at my studio if you'd said, but to sum up. There is no pedal or fancy processing you can do that will properly imitate an 8 or a 12 with a 4. You can mimic the note, but not the overtones and harmonics. That's what you won't get.
-
No. It most certainly isn't. However, it's definitely not Hartke Tx600 underpowered.
-
I'm not expecting total devastating power obviously. I just meant that the lack of headroom I'd find concerning. No way would I ever be taking it as a main amp. By that token I wouldn't use it as a backup either as I'd want something with more juice instead of thrashing the thing the whole time to get a remotely similar volume. That can't be good now can it?

@Bluewine the Beatles aren't untouchable. Nobody is. One could argue it's the failures in technique in a band that make for the magic and personality of it. Well, sometimes. Sadly, people do think the Beatles are the greatest musicians ever. Otherwise Paul wouldn't regularly top "best bass player" lists. On a technical level he's nowhere near it. I'm not talking about songwriting as that's different, I'm talking about just chops. He doesn't have the ability of Stanley Clarke, Jaco or any of those pedestal type players. Even within the rock medium he's nowhere near the top. Quincy might have been blunt, but I'm sure that Paul won't care and also won't be wondering about his reputation has been tarnished as a major producer has insinuated he isn't that great at his instrument. He's probably having a wry laugh at it. Take Quincy's interview as what it is - an old man deciding to let rip a bit in the twilight of his life. Some of it's amusing, but I bet the stuff he'll not discuss in an interview would be much more interesting.
