Post your pedal board - Basschat style!!
soldersqueeze replied to dudewheresmybass's topic in Effects
I've had a lot of different pedalboards, from the obscene to the purely practical. This is currently my board for both acoustic guitar and electric bass, and works a treat with both so far. I'm sure that at some point I'll add a little... spice. -
Bought a pedal from Ben, super polite, quick comms, pedal arrived the next day in perfect condition. Very happy, thanks Ben

Sold Davie a pickup, smooth transaction as always. Thanks!

Never stomped on, only ever used very briefly on a studio desk, and as such is in minty condition. Slight knock to the box which was there when I bought it new (see photo), no damage to pedal. Comes complete with power supply which is a rare treat in this day and age. Runs off your standard centre negative 9v if you want to plug it into your existing setup. Great value for what it does, the individual input/ output level, phase switching and eq really makes it an incredibly powerful tool. I suggest looking up reviews and the manual online because it can do more than I ever really wrapped my head around. Selling because I have too much stuff not being used. UK postage only, payment by PP gift or buyer covers fees.

Two pickups bought for unrealised projects, Tonerider P bass, brand new and unused, protective film still in place. Missing screws and foam which I guess must've been used in another project. £30 posted. Artec Mudbucker. Brand new and unused, protective film still in place. No mounting hardware included but that's because it didn't come with any from Artec so I can't take the blame for that. £25 posted. Artec now sold UK postage only. Payment by PP gift.

Bought a pedal from Matt, really happy. If he says something is in excellent condition then believe it. This thing is box fresh. Thank you, Matt!

I may have a play with a filtering cap then, thanks for the input (pun intended!). The shielding definitely did help- I think running wires past the transformer board is not great practice, but there are a lot of wires and it's hard to avoid. There is still some carrier signal bleed but from what I've read that's just part of the pedal. Ring modulation is fun though! I've just finished up my deadend FX wurmloch build this morning. It's a take on the DBA flaming lips pedal which was a very short run a few years ago. Way more limited in use than the String Ringer, but much easier to build and still a good time. Ideal if you want a ring mod for pure noise madness and are put off by the size and complexity if the LoveTone.
-
Needs knobs, and I'm going to swap a couple of wires to shielded to try and reduce some background noise, but it's done! Everything seems to work and it fired up first time. This has been really fun, the wiring is a good time if you like fiddly, complicated stuff. The pedal itself clearly needs time to learn. It's pretty full on.

You're right, once I get this done as a warm up I'll get to the stripboard version I'm slowly progressing, it feels like I'm still a long way from getting this finished
-
There are just so many pedal companies that have at least moderately succeeded that should never have made it past three months.... That statement has nothing to do with Raygun FX as I've never used, seen inside of or even heard much about them. Hope you get this sorted and enjoy your new pedal Stew!
-
I think a lot of builders test PCBs but maybe not the finished pedal after it's been boxed up. Probably a dodgy wiring job and something is shorting to ground. Hope you get it sorted and replaced painlessly. Was it the Soda Drive you ordered?
-
I do like a bass drive which doesn't play into the whole "all bass distortion needs a clean blend" trope. Not familiar with the brand, look to be very reasonably priced. Look forward to a review

Possibly my favourite pedal. Had this version, sold it to my immediate regret, then found a big box version on here which I plan on keeping forever. This smaller version does everything the big one does and is far more practical due to size and power requirements. Never have I seen a truer word spoken. I'm always impressed when I see people's pedal boards crammed with esoteric effects and can't begin to fathom how they handle it live. I've owned possibly hundreds of pedals and only ever gigged 3-4 at a time.

£149 pre order is much cheaper than I'd have expected. Hoping this isn't just a limited edition and there will be plenty to go around

60 odd resistors down, so much more to go.... I wouldn't normally post a work in progress but this is my first pedal build in a few years and I thought maybe posting a couple of updates might help motivate me to actually finish this beast. For the uninitiated, it's a String Ringer 1.3, a clone of the LoveTone Ring Stinger ring mod. There are fabbed PCBs available these days but this is a hand etched board (not etched by me I hasten to add!).

Not really one to post new purchases on here, but I thought I'd make an exception for this as it's been an awfully long time coming. I fell in love with this when I first saw one back in 2009(?), but the £400/$649 price tag at the time meant that it wasn't going to happen. Fast forward to 2021 and I found a practically mint example on eBay while having a few quid in the gear-fund... There have been other examples sell for less than I paid, but I am a sucker for boxes and manuals, and this is the closest to a new example of this unit I'm going to find. This now takes its place next to the other pedal I dreamt of owning 15 years ago... Sure, they're both enormous, have stupid power supply requirements, no presets, hyper-sensitive controls and are generally outdated in every way. There are far, far superior options for bass synth pedals out there these days, but these two are so much fun to play with and are capable of some truly obscene sounds. Any advice for getting the best out of either one of them gratefully received, as I'm still learning the ropes. Most fun I've had in years though

This is hardcore as all hell. Lovely to see a 506 in use, can you say what you're using it for? Also curious about the signal path and what that box with face mounted jacks is up to. -

Bought from user petetexas on here a few months ago and only used at home for a few minutes. Sounds fantastic, plenty of reviews online if you want to check it out. Only selling because I want to buy something else, looking to get back what I paid for it which I think is a very fair price. Pedal is boxed with inserts, no MIDI cable adapter as I didn't get it one when I bought it. Borrowed Pete's photos for now because it's still in the same great condition it was when I bought it. Will update to my own pictures tomorrow when I'm off work. Payment by bank transfer or PP gift. I've been on here for years and have a positive feedback thread. Postage will be first class recorded.

I'll probably be in the minority with all this, but you did say you're looking for differing opinions I never thought octave pedals work for this job, because you're not really replacing what the guitarist was doing, especially with something like the OC-2 which won't do chords, tracks poorly and has an remarkably limited sound (seriously, I think it's the most overrated pedal, I don't understand why it gets so much love. The MXR BOD is way better if you want an analogue octaver). I also have no love for polyphonic octave because I've tried a bunch of the "good" ones and they all sounded horrid to me. I think that adding a bit of light dirt and mixing up what you're playing to fill out the sound is the best route for your situation. I'd say to try a chorus pedal too, mainly because they're fun and any cheapo chorus works just fine. Anyway, I'd better go, I can hear the OC-2 fans coming for me... They're at the gates... Tell my wife I love her... I'll miss you all.
