1. Heather Mills recently went on BBC radio 5live and said some things about her relationship with Paul "the public wouldn't be able to handle". Now as many of you might know there's an ongoing theory that Paul died in 1966 and was replaced with a double. This is the time they all grew beards, and the same time they stopped touring. What I'd like to know specifically is: How do the basslines on post-'66 recordings compare to the ones from before? I've not got all the albums to compare, but I'm sure a lot of people on this board do and would have some insight. Sgt. Pepper is the first album that came out after he "died". It's all the used BIN items in Musical Instruments sorted by most recently added. People often put things up for silly prices if they don't know what they're worth, this way you can spot them before someone else does...
4. Are you sure it doesn't just need setting up? Most cheap basses come from the factory with very high action, the important thing is if it's capable of playing better. If it's just the height of the strings that's a problem then you need to tighten the truss rod and probably adjust the bridge as well. Here's an easy way to test it: fret the E string on the first and last frets, then look at the gap between the string and the fret at about the 9th fret. It should be no more than the thickness of a credit card. If it is, you could benefit greatly from a proper setup. Let us know how you get on...

6. Dual truss rods! eeek! Myself, I wouldn't go near those with a bargepole TBH, and I've always set up my own basses. it's a completely different kettle of fish to a single trussrod, you could end up twisting the neck, especially since you don't know where it need to be adjusted to. Proceed with caution. I know what you mean about music shops in SA, the staff can't tell their arse from their elbow. Pay for a setup and it comes out worse than it started The only guy I ever met who knew what he was doing was from a shop in jo'burg on Jan Smuts ave, I think it's called the Guitar Centre? Anyway I think that'd be rather a long trip for you... Don't know what else to tell you. My dad knows a guy who builds guitars, I'll see if I can get his number for you but I'm not sure where he's based either.
7. Those all sound amazing, you're right to be proud. Good job.
8.
Thanks Kneal6 great cab, pleasure doing business with you. Sorry about annoying your neighbours.
They're totally cool, don't worry about it Sorry if I derailed your thread a bit, just thought there should be some counterbalance to the sniping.
why are there so many asses on forums ay let the guy sell his cab
I agree wholeheartedly.
9. Tapco S5's seem to be highly recommended on recording forums so you probably can't go wrong there. The room's also a major factor here, I've had the same monitors in different rooms and the low-end especially is just completely different. Location, Isolation(i.e. putting them on top of foam so they don't couple with the whole desk), room treatment(acoustic foam on the walls) all make a huge difference. So basically, it's so variable you can just get any monitors as long as you use them loads so your ears get used to their particular sound. You need to listen to commercially produced track on them loads, then make your tracks sound like that. If you only use them for listening to stuff you've recorded you're on the road to nowhere since you've got no reference points.
10. Yeah, usb is not the greatest for latency, it just can't get the data in and out fast enough. However, they usually have something called zero-latency monitoring to get around this. It's basically just a mixer that sends your bass signal straight to the outputs without going through the PC, so you won't be able to put FX or whatever on it, but there'll be no delay. The ozone definitely has it so you just need to find out how to enable it, it's probably in the software that came with. You'll need to switch off the software monitoring in Live as well else you'll get a weird reverby thing going on. Hope that helps, post back if you can't get it to work...

12.
iv clearly showed interest in this cab and made offers, twice on this thread, so if your reffering me as a 'tyre kicker' then you are somehow very confused.
Lowballing and "making an offer" are slightly different things mate. Also you and Chester should have done any price negotiations via PM, especially if they're lowball take-the-piss offers like yours. I've done it before, most people have, I'd just never be so RUDE as to drag it out here for everyone to see.
Kev does have a valid point. It's almost like you're getting rid because there's an aspect of the cab you don't like, or because there's an issue with
That's RIDICULOUS! The same could be said for everything in the for sale section. Everyone has reasons for selling else they wouldn't put things up for sale. Stands to reason. If you bought it and it had some kind of technical issue that he'd neglected to tell you, he'd be liable for compensation/returns/public shaming. But IT DOESN'T! I owned that cab after OBBM, there's nothing wrong with it apart from the cosmetic damage on the side. Saying "You're selling it, therefore it must be crap" is just unbelievable. Subjuctive discussion of the TONE of these cabs (which loads of people have btw) can be discussed in the Amps and Cabs section. Also Harmony-central and Talkbass have loads of user reviews. Also, the auction that our friend bassmankev was referring to has finished now for £207 plus postage, but of course he only refers to auctions that are still going so that the prices seem lower. Sorry for the rant Steve but this kind of thing is happening more and more lately and it needs to stop.
13. I've had this same problem - raking just makes the timing go out but strict alternation can be awkward if you're skipping strings like in your example. Sometimes I find it easier to add a dead note or mute a string with my right hand in order to "realign" my fingers to make it play the other way round. If you do it right and make it tie in with the drums it makes the bassline better as well. Hope I explained that right....
14. Don't have any experience, but I think the only issue is that the guitar pod doesn't have a separate output for the dry signal like the bass one does, so if you wanted to record a direct signal as well as using the pod you'd have to get a separate DI box or signal splitter. Apart from that they're the same (AFAIK)
15. I've had 5 or 6 small packages from the US (pickup/pedal size), all off ebay, and I've only had to pay duties on 1.

Best Acoustic?
Yer I did check the for sale section, though I am quite wary about buying things second hand. Nothing against the seller, i'm sure hes a good honest seller, I just tend to stay away from second hand buying nowadays unless I can try out the instrument first.
That's interesting. I tend to stay away from new instruments based on all the lemons I've been sold by music shops, and the money I've lost selling them on
17. here's the list, I'm not going to describe them because no-one's really interested. GTKY threads, gotta love em. Aria VAB-something vanguard series PJ-bass Cort Action 5 Ibanez SRX505 Ibanez SRX500 MIM Jazz, dimarzio pickups (now my only bass) Warwick Fortress One 5-string Ibanez '76 PJ copy FrankenFender vintage P-bass Not too bad for ~7 years, and I'm settled on the jazz now. Sounds and plays great. I'm not buying any more basses.
18. You know what to do
19. I've just got a frontline digital delay from ebay and I'm having trouble figuring it out. I've attatched a pic. It's got knobs for repeats and delay level, then it's got 2 switches, the top one sets the delay range (0.6s/OFF/1.2s), the other one I'm not sure about. The delay time is set with the 2 red buttons on the bottom, you have to hold them down for quite a bit before they do anything. So, I can get it to work as a normal delay, but I don't know what the bottom switch does. It has 3 settings, OFF/HOLD/SMPL. OFF is for normal delay, the other 2 don't seem to do anything when selected, the light doesn't come on when I hit the footswitch, nothing. Anyone got any insight as to what these other modes do? It seems to be a generic jap design, there's very similar pedals under the brand name CORON as well...
20. Nice one, thought there'd be a reason
21. I've noticed there's an "add a comment" button in people's profiles (if you click on their username). Surely it would be easier to give feedback that way than having a separate forum? It'd be much easier to check people's feedback, especially once the feedback forum gets to be a few pages long...
22. I got a cheap one off ebay and it works fine with mine - I think it's a yamaha MFC5. 5 switches, cost about £20.
23. Not much difference, just make sure it's not usb1 Also, remember you don't want to be running an external hard drive and an audio interface at the same time if they're both firewire, it'll cause all kinds of problems since they have to share the bandwidth.
