I had very similar issues and have gone through loads of fuzzes in the last 5 years. The issue I had was, with my active Shuker bass, most of the fuzzes I tried were either way too noisy (usually the muff bass ones) and this couldn't be resolved even with an ISP Decimator, or the volume knob's were completely unusable - I would have to set them incredibly low and if the volume pot moved a hair the increase in volume was crazy which meant I was never comfortable using them live. Recently found a solution and now use a Silent Fly Micro Fuzz. The first fuzz I've ever owned with a usable volume pot! It's based on a Tonebender I think and has a Pad built in which helps with active basses. This is by no means the best fuzz I've used - that would be the TAFM, but this is the only Fuzz that I can use on a practicle level - and it does sound great and I'm really, really, happy with it. Other fuzzes I've tried that didn't get on with my bass, (that I can remember): Swollen Pickle, Musket Fuzz, TAFM, Maleko B:Assmaster, EXH Big Muff, Iron Ether Oxide and a pickle pie B (that I can remember).

Never heard of them but it does look the biz, presumably a Wooly Mammoth clone, but for that price, you'd have to wonder what was under the hood. Then again, for that price it maybe worth a punt?

First Gig coming up, what shall I wear other than clean pants
burno70 replied to basskit_case's topic in General Discussion
First gig = brown trousers? -
I don't use an Aux switch. It will allow you to access extra features that normally require additional presses etc (like getting to the tuner on one press and scrolling up & down in bank mode - without it you scroll up only, but as I only use 4 or 5 banks thats not an issue). It's not essential though!
Ace - thanks for the clarification!
The thing with the Pitchfactor is you HAVE to get the bits to go with it. Expression pedal and auxiliary switches are a MUST. The Digitech aux switch box does the job and is proper cheap on places like Amazon and Thomann, I've got mine set to cycle up & down banks and the third switch is dedicated to activating the tuner. One stomp to tune, another to get back to effects. You can even set the tuner so it either mutes your signal or allows it to pass through. This is the best pitch related pedal ever and it rendered my tuner obsolete!
I haven't kept up with this post - thanks for the reply. Questions though, So do you use this pedal live and use the Pitchfactor tuner - any issues? I could get the pedal sooner if I sell my tuner Also, the auxiliary switch. I didn't realise that I'd need one. Looking at it though, I would have assumed you could use the Pitchfactor itself to move up and down the banks - or am I missing the point?

Thanks for the lowdown mate, it sounds so perfect for my needs. Need to save and off a few pedals then it will be mine - oh yes!

Thanks Shep. I think the thing I like about the OC2 is that it has a fat, synthy tone to it. If I can get something big, albeit not the same, from the Pitchfactor then that would be fine. The not super quick tuner is a little problematic though. I regularly tune up and down during a set so I need something decent. Might have to be patient and save a little longer before I take the plunge.
Pantherairsoft swears by his Pitchfactor, loves it! However, he often still uses it with an OC-2 and a tuner. I'm sure he'll be along soon to comment Si
I know I've seen his - and other pedalboards with these pedals on. It would probably be a deal breaker for me if I had to keep them, as it's sooo expensive.
-
I'm thinking of getting one but would need to sell off a few of my other pedals first. Before I offload my polytuner and OC2 can anyone who has one advise whether the tuner is any good. Also, am I likely to miss the mojo of the OC2 or can it get a similarish tone if used as a simple 1 down octaver? ta.

Anyone use an all valve amp with a Barefaced Super 12?
burno70 replied to burno70's topic in Amps and Cabs
Hey thanks Alex - looks like I completely misunderstood our conversation Still loving the cab by the way! -
I posted this in another thread but thought I'd make a new one to gain more responses. When I bought my super 12 I asked Alex for advise re a new amp. Now, I think I can remember him saying class D's would work best - and that all valve amps would not be suitable for some reason. Although this was about 2 years ago so I could very well be mistaken. I'd rather not bother Alex directly as we all know he's a busy man and there are plenty of people waiting for his cabs. So, does anyone use an all valve amp with this cab? Is there any reason not to? I bought an Ashdown Little Bastard the other day and would like to try it with the super 12 - could this harm either cab or head? Ta..
Mine sounds mint with my Super 15.
Got the Little Bastard today - brilliant, brilliant amp, genuinely blown away by it. Got band praccy tomorrow and dying to try it with the super 12T but I remember speaking with Alex about amp recommendations and I thought he said a full valve amp wouldn't work well with the cab - unless I'm completely mistaken as this was over a year ago. Any thoughts as to why this might be? Would there be any danger of harming either amp or cab? (Sorry to the OP for the derail)

I've tried a couple of Ashdown combo's at gigs over the years and had mixed thoughts. One was really nice, the other was definately muddy and no EQ tweaking seemed to resolve it. However, I tried a Little Bastard out the other day and just had to buy one - it sounded fecking superb. Cannot wait til tomorrow, when it arrives - feel like a kid at Christmas! Wonder what it would be like with my Super 12T?

Byron just bought a TAFM from me. Fast payment. Great comms. Is an easy guy to deal with. Cheers mate Ste

Many questions and some excellent points - cheers for that. To be honest, I think if it were not so expensive, as we, like most unsigned bands, are self-funded, then it simply would not be that big a deal. I've recorded many times, sometimes used a click-track, sometimes not. Personally, I've always left it down to the drummer's preference. As this recording is so important to us, we really want to get it right and thought using a click track may be best, we hadn't realised that there were changes in tempo and it caught us by surprise. Chatting with the band at rehearsal tonight and I think we're going to play be feel instead, just like we always do - so fingers crossed! Hopefully we won't balls it up and I'll have something half decent to post on this forum!
-
I'm heading into the studio in a couple of weeks with my band, Quandrant - a heavy rock/ metal/ slightly proggy type originals band. Now, we were working an tempos for a click track and noticed that two of our songs have unintentional tempo changes in them. I've never been a band where this has happened before and it does bother me a bit. Does this mean we should play these songs on 'feel' alone? Just concerned as we'd usually have the drummer use a click track to ensure we get it right but it doesn't look like we can do this here. This recording sesh is costing us all a bomb and we don't want to leave anything to chance. Anyone got any ideas, or has anyone else been in a similar situation? Am I worrying about nothing - pre-recording nerves perhaps? Cheers Ste

Chorus Bass Pedal with plenty of bottom end/punch. Suggestions?
burno70 replied to coffee_king's topic in Effects
After using a Boss CEB-3, Analogman chorus and the chorus effects on the Line 6 M9 I've settled on an EBS Unichorus. I much prefer it to the others and you can nab them for between £60-£80 second hand these days. -
-
The Boss LS-2 is the only pedal I've bought - twice. Sold it and regretted it and had to get another one. My preferred use is so that I can trigger multiple effect with one stomp but having the clean blend and volume options are excellent options to have. I've never had a problem using the pedal with a long signal chain - I think its looping about 10 other pedals at the moment - never had any issues. I think the Xotic X-Blender has a phase switch on it. Pricey though.

I'm looking to place it under my PT-2. (Sorry mods, schoolboy error, wrong forum - can you transfer to the effects forum please, thanks.)
