I've only got active basses and the Malekko B:assmaster and Blackout Effectors Musket Fuzz both work fine. Have a look on talkbass. In the Wiki in the effects section theres a list of fuzzes with a comment regarding whether they're active friendly or not. I don't think it's been updated for a while but it's still got a fair amount of fuzzes on there which should help you out.

Well played to Bartleby for tracking down the pic! I decided not to follow up the "interest" this afternoon and went the gym instead - good job with him giggin in London eh
Sent him a msg offering to pick it up - we should all do that!
Great idea!

Preferred instrument for writing material

Nearly always the bass first - but I think it has more to do with my playing ability in regards to keys and guitar and the sheer amount of time I spend playing bass compared to the other two. -
The one to the left is the Bugbrand Bugcrusher I bought off Kennerz this week. It's a sample rate reducer and the one knob is the sampling frequency. It sounds a bit like an in-tune ring modulator, and if you feed it a distorted signal you get crazy pitch-related oscillation.
That sounds interesting - I'll have a mooch for some samples when I get home from work.
Made a couple of changes this week, here's what I've ended up with:
Great board! What are the two pedals either side of the Squeezer?
I just think some people on here think it's cool to admit not liking him.
How is that cool? I don't understand your point. I was only only joking when I said they were crap. It's just I tried listening to it, got about a minute in and got bored. It sounded like elevator Muzak to me. There's no doubting their Jedi like skills and fretboard w*nkery, but where's the heart man? I mean, I guess I much prefer band songs. Give me Harris, Burton, Butler, Jones, Zender, Flea and Commerford any day of the week.
-
Well I thought they were both crap!

Used to change roundwounds once a month - now I've been on flats for about 6 months I don't feel the need to change them, although I need to take them off to oil the fret board, the woods looking a bit dry. ^^^ I find that avatar disturbing - a naked man taking pics of a rabbit - no wonder the poor thing look terrified!

I enjoyed watching them. I didn't know whether the bass sound was light or whether it was my old telly. Fantastic live band though. Does anyone know what the glowing square is on the singers guitar? (sorry not great with names). Is this a musical device or just ornament?

Geetardation-based irrationality complex
I went to college and Uni with lots of people who played more than one instrument, the emphasis in any course should be on being a MUSICIAN not a bass or guitar holder. I think you're getting yourself wound up over nowt to be honest with you.
I disagree with this. In the 3rd year of my degree I was playing my bass for between 3-5 hours every day in preparation for a 40 minute solo recital. You really have to live and breath the instrument of choice.
In my view, the most important thing is that you choose something you'll be happy practicing every day diligently for several years.
Spot on. -

I've never got on with Warwicks. I love the shape and the necks but the ones I've tried have all been duffers - despite their expense. One was headstock heavy and wanted to dive bomb into the floor and the others felt poorly set-up and that included a $$ and a dirt blonde.
Althought this will go in the "For Sale" section shortly, I am selling my Stingray 5 if anyone is interested, it's in absolute mint condtns, had it from new in 2002, not even a scratch to it, as I keep all my instruments mint. Translucent Red on ash body with nice visible wood texture, maple neck, original MM case and all the trimmings. gives us a pm if interested.
Great looking bass - not seen a pickguard like that before - looks ace.
-
If I had the cash and it lived up to the hype I wouldn't have a problem paying £300 for a pedal - not that I have that kind of money at the minute.
Dolphin is overpriced and rubbish for bass guitarists IMO.
Didn't always be the case - 3 years ago, as well as the obligatory Fenders you could expect to find Overwaters, Musicman, Ibanez and Warwicks - I spent many a lunch hour in there widdling away. I like the staff in there and prefer them to Dawsons. Curly's are good too.
What colour was the £1700 one ? One of these: http://www.music-man.com/instruments/basse...stingray-4.html ? They are £1700 ish in most stores at the moment. Most striking feature is the varnished neck.
It had a transparant gloss varnished body, I couldn't find anything like it on the website though?
-
It wasn't a mint green powder blue - but actually very similar to BH2's. Not sure if it was an Ltd - it's not on their website and I didn't notice Ltd on it anywhere.
I've never got on with them, the necks feel too chunky to me and they tend to have quite obvious dead spots.
Funny you should say that - the first stingray I tried was a tobacco sunburst jobbie going for £1300 and that did have obvious dead spots - which lead me to try the other one. As for £1700, I did ask an assistant why it was so much more expensive than the others and he said it was because of the wood finish. If I had the spare cash I would have no problem paying it for a bass of that quality.

I was trying a dirt pedal out in Dolphin Liverpool this afternoon and used a Stingray as it was about the nearest I could get to my bass (hot actives). It was a 4 string, all wood body maple? - I think it was going for between £1600 - £1700. God it was nice to play - and sounded totally awesome too. I didn't like the pedal and ended up playing the bass clean for half an hour. It made me really, really want it. I could see the 0% finance offer but the inevitable reality check fought off the urge. I'm seriously happy with the bass I have - just wish I had tonnes of money so I could buy more. Sweet, sweet bass!

Advice on delay with modulation, small footprint, £50 to £80...?
burno70 replied to 1976fenderhead's topic in Effects
Not sure about the others but I've had a Carbon Copy - loved it, nice warm tone. I only sold it to get an M9 but I prefer the CC and may buy another one sometime. -
I made the same move a month or so back and do have to say that the PT2 is infinitely better as it is angled and also really easy to hide cables and power supply etc. The flight case is a nightmare it is well made but just really big and heavy! I kept that but then also bought a new soft case which I seem to use all the time now and it is great.
That's a great idea - I could use the soft bag for praccy's and the flight case for gigs when there's more gear being shifted. Think I'll look into that!
-
I've had mine for 2 years now and still love it. Well worth the wait, I played sh*tloads of basses in shops and my mates owned over 20 and I still think it blows most of them out the water, although this is always subjective. The only other bass which I thought I preferred the tone of - was another Shuker! Similar to Largo, I took mine back for a bit of fine-tuning on the neck - sanded and refinished, now it's perfect.
Here's mine as of today, sorry for the terrible photo I'll be upgrading to a PT-2 when I can find one for sale at a reasonable price. I'll also make some decent cables once I've decided on a set-up.
I've upgraded from a Diago to a PT-2 recently - it's a good move, lots of space on there and it's easy to keep things neat and tidy. Only issue I have is the flight case weighs a tonne - but I can live with that!

WOw - haven't listened to Beefheart for years - I'll have to dig out Trout Mask Replica and give it a spin! Thanks for that!
